Original Cartoon series Batman's Joker, the one voiced by Mark Hamil.
All, "Hello everybody! Joker's back in town! *joker laugh that very people in the planet can do right* (I'm looking at you currently deceased Heath Ledger!)"

THAT was a good joker, none of this "Y'wanna know how i got these scars?" bullshit...

My favorite is also the Joker, but I really liked the newest representation (Heath Ledger's character). I believe Mr. Ledger's Joker was closer to the Joker from the comics.

He may well have been, and don't get me wrong i liked his represntation as well, but i just hated that they did away with the "Fell in a vat of chemicals" things.
I mean yeah, a guy gets a "smiley" scar on his face and thereafter goes nuts and blows things up? doesn't sound very Joker as i remember him.

The Joker i've come to know and love is a trickster, yes he blew shit up but at the same time he liked to joke people around, he was also genuinely derranged his plans weren't all that complicated. Also what's Heath Ledger's Jokers obsession with Knifes? beyond the fact he has that scar? I would've gave my left arm for some Joker Gas in the Dark Knight...

I definitely agree, but I'm holding out hope that the next Batman movie may incorporate more of the "Jokerisms" we know and love.

even though to have Jokerisms they'd need a Joker, which means they'd either have to reanimate the corpse of Heath Ledger, or re-cast the character, which may or may not damage the credibility of the role for an entire audience...
it's either that or have the Jokerisms and no Joker.
I'm not disputing it's possible, i just think people would react badly to it.

It's a shame the guy had to die, this has drastically hurt any chances i'll ever have of seeing Harley Quin in a movie.

(I fucking LOVE Harley Quin)

My favourite villains would be:

Anime - Itachi -> He just does his stuff calmly, kills and doesn't care about it.

Movies - Hannibal Lecter -> Basically the same as the above but add thought based on reason not morals, extraordinary culture and great tastes... aside from human eating of course....

Games - Liquid Snake -> This pretty much doesn't need any additional info.

I'm personally a fan of Candlejack and the Lobe. And no, I will not make the stupid Candlejack joke.

But dude, you can't say his name.

In terms of anime, definitely Team Rocket from Pokemon (the anime ones, of course).
Also Isley of the North from Claymore and Asakura Hao from Shaman King, but really more those two because I'm a shallow teenage fangirl.

And along those lines, if you'll allow me to I'd like to include Axel from Kingdom Hearts.

Oh, and Envy from Full Metal Alchemist as well.

Please don't be stupid. In all seriousness, capitalization makes it so much easier to read.

Cartoon: Mark Hamill's Joker from the Batman Animated Series. To this day I claim this is the best interpretation of the Batman's nemesis.

Comic: Ezekiel Stane, son of Obidiah Stane from Iron Man. He's actually quite recent and was the leader of a terrorist cell who used Stark tech to launch suicide bombers into buildings and the like. He also built himself a suit and powers that run off of the power of the human body, in essence superseeding Stark's own Iron Man suit (building an Iron Man 2.0 as Stark puts it) and as such has become more dangerous because of that. Stark only stops him by EMPing the whole region to stop him, and the thing ends in a fist fight. I'd really love to see Stane make a come back some time soon in Dark Reign now that Norman Osborn is in charge.

Anime: Either Million Knives from Trigun or Asakura Hao from Shaman King. Both are supremely powerful and extremely dangerous, using and abusing their subordinates to get what they want. Both seem to possess a goal of pure genocide, which I think is the worst kind of villian. Plus they are both related to the main character, which gives them an extra edge over other villians.

Megatron from G1 Transformers - at least he manned up and killed some Autobots in the movie.

I second Megatron, only in his G2 tank form for comics.

Boris Badenov and Snidley Whiplash are favorites of mine from when I was a kid. I've always loved Darth Vader as well, even after the prequel trilogy came out. As for a be-all-end-all villain, I can't really put my finger on one. There's too many great ones to choose from.

EDIT: Unicron's pretty badass...

I don't have a favourite but I think this is an honourable mention. Shredder from the old TMNT that I watched in the early 90's.

Best comic book villain, Hush from Batman.

I never quite got what made him so great.

Myself it always changes too frequently. At the moment, the riddler or bane from the Knightfall era.

I enjoy Hush because he is a chilling counter-point to Batman, a what-if character. What if Bruce Wayne trained himself to become a criminal to get revenge on a violent and uncaring world rather than fight crime. That is what's interesting. Although I do agree that the Knightfall Riddler is quite compelling, but I always thought Bane was a really stupid Batman villain.

I always imagined Joker as the literal opposition to anything the batman stood for. For the direct opposite DC created Prometheus, the direct anti batman:

I'm pretty sure he was nuts in some way before he got a glasgow smile. And just so you know, he explained in the movie why he's obsessed with knives. But yeah, I do love the old Joker slightly more than the Heath Ledger one.

Cartoon: Mojo Jojo from Powerpuff Girls

And there shall be only one Mojo Jojo vote. In the singular. There shall be no others apart from this one vote.

Dick Dastardly & Muttley, Wile E Coyote, Tom, The Hooded Claw, Fenella the Witch, The Crew of the Evil Voyager...many many more.

Oh and second dibs on Harley Quinn being lush.

Venom and Carnage are the best villains ever, especially when they are together in stuff like Maximum Carnage and it is SPIDEY vs VENOM vs CARNAGE!!!

Just for sheer ridiculous power I would have to go with Majin Buu from DBZ.
Overall sinisterness mixed with skill I would go with Ron Perlman's Slade from the Teen Titans cartoon.
The Major from Hellsing. He's totally insane, he knows it and doesn't care.
I like the Joker...Uh...I can't think of anyone else.

DIOOO! for anybody who has read jojos bizarre adventure...

I second this. He shoots bodily fluid from his eyes. He's also a vampire. He can stop time. He also

In comics, I'm going to have to say Mammon from Spawn.

For videogames, I'm going to say Albedo for the first episode of Xenosaga. Damn, was he INSANE!

Either Onslaught or Doomsday, because they broke the mold for traditional generic evil guys and actually killed a few heroes in their time. (Course they all magically came back to life, but eh its what they do best)
