Most people think that "gamers are doomed to be gamers" and simply end up as game programmers. I say we, the gaming nation, should strive to become important political, financial, and athletic figureheads using games as a conduit. I want the next Micheal Phelps to thank EA. I want the next Presidental Canidate to protect our games instead of beraid them! I want Wallstreet to have as many Gameboys as PDAs! And will someone make a decent Game Based Movie!

But I digress, Who will stand with me and what will you do to promote the industry? What will you strive to become in order to turn this world into the electronic paradise I know its destined to become!

I have already sucessfully intergrated the Gaming page into my school news paper (now the largest and most popular section) and will continue to report on the industry throughout college.

For the future, I offer my math skills. I will become a Calculus Professor and use games in my curiculum to encourage the next generations to take up thier heratige!

I'm really involved with medicine and stuff like that, and more and more surgeons now a days commend their quick reaction time and fast reflexes to video games. Seems like we're well on our way.

Well, it would take some extremely clever, highly destructive mutations to do it but really it could be possible to make some of them. The problems mostly being with those bloody ethical types who would kill researchers for sneezing on rabbits. I'm a electrical technician. Hard, hot work and I keep the electricity flowing. How else do you play consoles, eh? Need electricity! Not exactly glamorous (or rocket science) but aint exactly gaming orientated either...

I play games as often as I can and I'm second in my pre-medicine course. Although I still got another 12 years before I become a specialized doctor.

I really think when gaming becomes more widespread politicians and the media will leave the 'duck tape, length of chain, pipe wrench, along with the newly leased and poorly maintenanced basement' at home or just in the basement.

For soon video games will surpass movies ,books ,and television more than they are now. Thus thrusting them into a respected position where the worlds new laughable hobby will be 'underwater basket weaving'.

Actually, gamers apparently make better doctors. Their reflexes are better so they can more easily react to a bad to worse turn.

Gaming Journalism (and by extension, it's readers) bear the brunt of the responsibility here. Are we going to continue judging games based purely on their graphics and "fun factor", or are we going to start focusing on their artistic qualities instead?

I'm a writer and backyard wrestler. I suppose I could write about my wrestling buddies and I playing video games in between matches.

I don't like all the negative views of people towards gamers. Seems kind of ignorant. Well replaced kind of with incredibly and envision me rolling my eyes for several minutes.

OK first, we need to get away from this "hardcore" mentality. You mean gamers, thats it. Lets not needlessly segregate ourselves because its pointless and many people won't like the divisions that are formed.

That being said, we already have. My father has been gaming since the atari and is now a priest who once worked as a powerful IT person. Many of my friends have fathers who are gamers still and hold some shocking powerful positions. We run quite a bit of the world from Local politics to business on various levels to religion and science. As the first gen gamers get older they take over, its just that people don't notice it because gamers are just people.

So you are more right than you know. Not only are gamers getting to the point where they can be in charge, they already are and have been.

I think the idea that gamers are "rising" in anyway is just a delusion. I don't see people saying that the non-gamers are having an uprising because they are having representatives in high places.

Since when did being a gamer mean that fellow gamers rising in power become a great feat, anyways? It's not like we're a mercilessly tortured bunch, at least not where I live. Really, someone who used to play Atari becoming president isn't much different than someone who didn't play Atari becoming president. By that age they will have forgotten what Atari is, anyways.

I'm studying to be a psychologist, so... I don't really know how that relates to games, but, hey, maybe I can make a stupid parent not worry as much about their kid playing games.

I actualy wouldn't want a game job. I want my games in my spare time not my job time.

Doctors and lawyers work insane hours. Maybe some DO game but after a day like that I think a lot of them just don't have the energy.

Here's an idea. Instead of saying that the group need to stand up and take our place as world leaders, why not just go do it yourself, go through the world of politics, become the President of the Future, then when people ask you what drove you to become the greatest man who ever lived, tell them "Violent videogames as a child". That'd make everybody feel silly.

Of course, if you're female, you'll need gender re-alignment surgery before you can accomplish this.

Just because I enjoy playing games doesn't make me immature or otherwise fixated soley on gaming, neither does it doom me to working in programming or IT (I don't even know how half of this gaming stuff works, my expertise is purely in the 'blowing shit up' department).

In short, just like comics, anime and the internet, the negetive connotations that surround people who indulge in them will lessen (and maybe even disappear) over time, gaming as we know it is still quite a new thing as far as cultural change goes.

Simple. Being a Doctor, Lawyer or Astronaut requires almost 24/7 work. Then, when you're not working, you'll need to have a social life, as people skills are again, essential. Gaming simply cannot fit into the schedule. While it certainly does with some jobs, being a doctor,for example, requires massive amounts of time and energy. Gaming should and cannot come into the equation.
