And why shouldn't us gamers be doctors, lawyers, or astronauts!? Next they'll want to vote!

Pretty soon the "Hardcore Console Gamers" will be within striking range of the top postions in the job market. Most people think that "gamers are doomed to be gamers" and simply end up as game programmers. I say we, the gaming nation, should strive to become important political, financial, and athletic figureheads using games as a conduit.

But, what if some of us want to make games?

Anyway, good luck with that. It sounds like too much work for me.

Actually, gamers apparently make better doctors. Their reflexes are better so they can more easily react to a bad to worse turn.

No they don't.
According to a surgeon I had classes with a month ago the surgery is 90% knowledge and experience and 10% manual skills.
And playing games certainly won't make you study more.

Good point.

They won't have the last laugh when they are stuck in an underwater city with only a wrench and an Irishman for company.

This is going in my "quotes of the year", and it's only been about 7/8 days into the new year!

Going in mine too. But don't forget the dozens of Splicers.

A lot of important jobs, such as being head of a country, leave little time for gaming. That could make this plan a little difficult, but hopefully it could be done. The main setback is how so many people are currently pointing the finger at video games for the world's problems - Recently, for example, a six year old boy stole his parents' Ford Taurus when he missed his school bus, and crashed after 10km, telling the police afterwards he learned to drive from video games. The BBC's news article was unbiased, but I am certain many newspapers will use video games as the scapegoat as usual. I'm surprised that, with the current news articles, gamers aren't treated like pre-suffragette women. We need to come up with a word for it. They have Misogynism, after all.

But there's nothing saying we can't do important things, though. After all, video games don't harm our mental stability, do they?
