Guess what switches on this year?
Skynet.
At least I live close by Ah-nuld.

Spoons-
What do you plan to do?
Movie references that pop up in real life.
Fictional events that might/ should happen.
Have you ever named a PC/laptop, PS3, ect, HAL9000?

The Surprisingly Useless Wiki-

Can somebody explain what this thread is about, because I don't get what he's going on about.

if you don't know than its too late for you I am writing this in a bunker awaiting the start of the rebellion VIVA LA JOHN CONNOR

Knight Templar:

The same stuff that gets video games in the news so much. A couple of people say "Video games made me do it" or "There are dragons and magic! There really really are" and it ruins it for the rest of us - all because some people can't differentiate from reality and fiction.

All hail Cthulhu ;)

On topic: If (an) apocalypse comes, I'm going to go out the same way I came in. Only it won't be the same women, and it will be in reverse (to a point).

Well, its odd that Skynet comes online this year, as the final terminator movie is being aired. Yes, this is the one that focuses on the war between the humans and the robots, and seeing if John Connor can fulfil his destiny even after he changed his past.

*laughs*
To clarify, I'm female.

I do realize this wont happen, Gitsnik, but just had to post it.
Have fun with your reverse birthing on a loop. ^_^

Think they did that on purpose?

Who? The ministry of Defence or Sony?

Indigo_Dingo:

Who? The ministry of Defence or Sony?

They're working together- only logical answer.

fullmetalangel:
Wow, that's an interesting fact. Still, don't see this thread going anywhere any time soon. Maybe you should edit it so it's like... "What fictional event should have happened/Is happening/Going to happen"... or... something...

Thanks for the idea. ^_^
I'll go do that.

Who here really thinks that companies will stop making software and video games for XP anytime soon?

If they do, I'll be pissed. I love my XP >.<;;

Surely John Connor just has to change his name by deed poll and he's safe? If he puts more than three syllables in it, Ahnuld will be stuck.

So that would be the Sony Defence Force...

Indigo_Dingo:

You might be on to something. o_o;;

If this is the case, we don't stand a chance.

Against them? We could make them kill themselves by handing them a press release saying that Parrapa the Rapper 3 is going to be a 360 exclusive.

Are they seriously making a third one? You're probably joking, but that would do the trick.
Old Master Onion.. I miss him.

Meh, I'm set, I'm reactivating Hal 9000 and siccing it on Skynet. He'll take it down no problem.

I think about 80% of the male population aged 16-30, given the option, names their PC Hal9000 or some variant.

I would not be surprised. But I have the original. Seriously, I'm poor, its the only computer I could afford.

The Escapist community sure does seem to like 2009.

Is your room padded? Because your insane.

NeoAC:

Original PC, I'm assuming.
If you had the HAL9000 from the movies, I'd be tempted to find you and take it.

@ Dommy- This is a Terminator thread more so than a "Whoooo! 2009!" thread.

Well, I'm somewhere in the Canadian wilderness, and if you were going to mount a challenge for it, I would definitely do it now, since I have to sleep. But be forewarned, if you see a bunch of trees glowing red knotholes, then it knows your there.

Canada?
It'd take me about three days to get there, even if I could find you.
So, rest assured that your distance, and my laziness, keeps you safe.

Particularly so, since we're in it.

I had a thought while I was perusing the internets earlier.

These recent killbots that the US is developing - I understand that they are the "first step" in the new wave of military technology and what not, but every single story you ever hear is about these robots going wrong. Have we learned nothing from the past 50 years of sci-fi?!

We don't know what the airforce (actually, canon says it will be the navy who does the major comp-sci work in the US if memory serves) are currently developing - maybe a thinking machine is on the way. Certainly not yet full fledged AI, but throw enough computing power at an expert system and we could well be logging at judgement day.

The only thing is the US can't seem to fix a target that is worthy of threat, so we're probably O.K. in the nuke department.

So escapists, what else do you see coming true from movies like the terminator series, or some of our favourite sci-fi works.

One of the 20% who as never called their computer HAL9000. Though I had one called dave.

VoleurdeThym:

What exactly did that clarify?

I heard rumours (maybe on IMDB) they were going to do a second trilogy (Yes the third film happened, don't pretend it didn't) but it would focus on someone other than the mighty JC, a lieutenant / best friend of JC or something.

well if the apocalypse is happening then we just need to grab as much swag and weapons as we can before it all turns to crap

Actually i am anticipating 2010 more.

It would make sense if we had made a robot that could run, let alone shoot guns and be indestructable :P

Knight Templar:

On that blight terminator 3: rise of the machines a government computer network becomes self-aware and makes America nuke itself and all that good stuff...so yeah...it's a pointless movie reference...

that sounds like a good plan...we'll need some heiniken too...

There is no way that could ever happen. Trust me... :)
