Gone Gonzo Posts: 1652 Joined: 2 Nov 2008 | I do it. I try not to but sometimes I can't help myself. Why? Because if I don't get a last insult in it feels like I gave up and lost. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1566 Joined: 8 Oct 2008 | Speaking in insults is pointless; however, proving an adult to be incorrect will also be called talking back thanks to ageism. |

Unfortunate indeed, and so very true. |
Beat Writer Posts: 191 Joined: 27 Dec 2008 | I do it to make them feel like disciplining me is useless. Which it is. |
Anonymous Source Posts: 10 Joined: 10 Jan 2009 | Depends how the argument is going, usually if I know I'm right, or if things are just going my way, the smartassed comments just begin to fly. I try not to do it if I'm losing, you can make all the smartassed comments you want, but if you're wrong, you're wrong. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2142 Joined: 23 Jan 2008 | Toward people I know and trust, yes; they can fly by. Most know it is all in good humour though. Towards my family, a lot. At least I used to, when I hated them more. I have only lately begun to reform, even if they do not deserve it. By they, I mostly mean my mother. *shudder* |

Rebellion and an attempt to undermine their authority by "winning the battle". Gotcha. |

No need for apologies, just happy to see someone other than *cough* *cough* Disrespectful Tweens in here *cough* *cough* |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2142 Joined: 23 Jan 2008 | Tweens? Between 8 to 12? Oh, most here are. I am also 20. Apologies for the off-topic chatter. |

No offense meant to you man, I was just referring to the chatter at the beginning of the thread. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1166 Joined: 23 Jul 2008 | OK, being an all around sarcastic, cynical smart alec at all times. I made comments like that at first to be funny, now as the number of jokes grow, it has only become natural. My hope is that you do not start at a very young age. Same yourself some punishment and from making cold hearted, awkward, and all around dislikable comments on serious subjects such as murder, AIDS, etc. Don't like it? go to your yuppie friend over there so he can blather on about how he is the real Paul McCartney and blows smoke all over the room, and so that you can talk to someone who seems to even care about what your pathetic life has thrown as you even though even if that didn't fly over his head already, he will not even remember this in an hour or so. See what I mean? |

Hehe. No worries; I was not serious in the least. You will find your share of juvenile talk here, along with abuse of the English language (of late), but you will also find many beacons of light in the dark desert night, shining brilliance to which unbelievable amounts of talent will gather as moths to an incendiary grenade. Let this be an official welcome from one such self-proclaimed beacon and greeter of 'Pists. |

"As moths to an incendiary grenade" I like it, I may just be able to retire my "As douchebags to a new fad" |

Ah, but they are not comparable, as the latter is suave and appeals to the sultry modern world we indulge in, for better and for much worse. |

I do believe you are the first person, that I've ever heard refer to a sentence involving the word "douchebag", as suave. But thank you nevertheless. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2142 Joined: 23 Jan 2008 |
Well, the superficial sophistication was mostly directed toward the word "fad", but you do make a good point. I suppose I should be proud. And thus, I shall now stop filling this thread with nonsense. Apologies abound. |
Muckraker Posts: 289 Joined: 10 Aug 2008 | One of the good things about being a grown up (I'm 30) is that you can tell people what you think. Theres no such thing as talking back it's just my opinion and if you don't agree with it? fuck you (to put it nicely) |
Paperboy Posts: 49 Joined: 7 Jan 2009 | I do it when I get really pissed. But sometimes if I'm feeling lucky, I talk back to my teachers and sometimes I don't get a detention. |
Paperboy Posts: 35 Joined: 8 Jan 2009 | I did it a lot with my mom. I don't do it as much as I used to, but it still got me in more trouble. Not really ever with my dad. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1319 Joined: 19 Dec 2008 | While I'm not much of a smartarse, I do tend to try a bit too hard to win any discussion I'm in. Granted, this usually takes the shape of me twisting arguments and using any and all debate tricks I can think of. I tend to do this even if I'm wrong, though I generally admit to being wrong AFTER I have won :) |

Yup. I usually end up on an insult/ one-liner role, then take it a step too far. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1146 Joined: 27 Aug 2008 |
Oh yes there is. It's just called "insubordination". Of course, usually by the time you're thirty you know *why* you think what you think so you can at least make a sally at proving your point. It's no longer necessary to rely on shock value and blind emotionalism. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2350 Joined: 21 Aug 2008 | I do all the time, or at least that's what people say, I just think my voice has a naturally pompous tone. However, I do definitely talk back, in fact I have never had a gym teacher who liked me because of this. Just yesterday my gym teacher flicked me off in front of the who class. |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 857 Joined: 24 Mar 2008 | It's because you're angry and want to do more than just "win". It's about hurting feelings at that point, a revenge instinct. It's the same reason people yell at a cashier for not accepting an expired coupon. Realistically the cashier can't do anything about it and they will likely get in trouble (maybe even lose their job) if they do accept it. Ask most people and they will agree with all these facts and points, but in the situation they still chew out the cashier. Ironically that kind of behaviour never makes anyone feel better about the encounter. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1155 Joined: 22 Dec 2008 | I do it all the time. I do it because usually a smart ass enough of a comment wins a conversation because it is relevant to the conversation and it usually wins the argument. |

Beat Writer Posts: 136 Joined: 24 Dec 2008 | Strikes me as being sort of petty - I'd rather be right than funny. Mind you, I will gladly crack a joke, but talking back is terrible for purposes of persuasion. |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 549 Joined: 24 Sep 2008 | I do it. All the time. Granted I'm a sarcastic bastard to begin with. I'm actually kind of famous amongst my friends for it. I usually get away with it since people think I'm just joking around. |

This. I'm usually nice to everyone but I'll rant until they give up. EDIT: Nevermind this edit. |

Not sure if everyone does it but whenever i am in an argument with my parents or anyone, I always add in that one little smart ass comment that will get in me in more trouble than i would be without saying. So do any of you do it and if so why? Been thinking bout this and no answer has come to me yet.
