Poll: You think anime should have thicker women(bigger asses and wider hips not just big boobs)

 Pages 1 2 3 4 NEXT

When it comes to anime there are no shortage of big breasted women(and girls in some cases) however searching for an anime girl with big butts and wide hips its pretty much the equivalent of finding a leprechaun in sub sahara Africa.

Modern anime girls are so boring. The designs are either awful or bland. They look like confused puppies. But yeah, sure. I wouldn't mind seeing a girl with an ass like Simone from Hegre.com. The characters need to become more human, though.

I saw "wider hips" in the title and thought this was spam for a moment.

Feel a little better?

I like small breasts... But I think this is appropriate:

He wasn't asking about breasts.

Anime should go back to, and improve on, having more body types in general.

I mean, used to be there was a plethora of skin tones and body types just...out there, without comment. You could tell three red haired characters apart and only some artists had a problem with copying body types within their own work. (Leiji Matsumoto, I like your work, but damn, there is more than one way to draw a woman.)

Meanwhile these days whole genres, and large parts of the medium as a whole, look like they could all be drawn by the same group.

I've never given this question much consideration and I will continue doing that.

I'm trying to think the last time I saw someone fat in an anime show.

Supposedly there will be gyaru animes that will address that

Yeeeeeaah not my thing. Still feel uncomfortable with certain anime artist drawing schoolgirl and making them look young n sexualised.

Im out.

My personal preference is small breasts and small bottoms.
And a tomboyish nature..

For once, I agree with altnameJag though, more varied body types would only be natural.
I'm actually disgusted by big breasts and bottoms but everyone has some mix of different tastes after all.
It seems to me that most female figures in drawn art goes way too far just to avoid them being accused of being loli, hebe, tomboy or androgynous.
Or maybe I'm the odd one out..

The varied personalities is already there so I don't have much to add there.

Well yeah, not so much the boobs and butt part, but just the body in general. Anime characters post-2000 lack much bulk, both women and men. Too many straight lines, not enough curvy ones.

Or better yet, how about more athletic builds? Alot of these anime girls fight, which just makes no physical sense when they have arms like beanpoles.

E:

Thick or bottom-heavy builds are functional too, just look at some olympic athletes:

I want anime to just stop sucking the Nazi party's proverbial cock. The "Germany did nothing wrong" circlejerk has already gotten me to swear off the medium entirely.

Where's the option for anime girls that look like actual fucking people? Where do I sign up for that?

maybe its nostalgic team pride

I found that "Real Drive" had female body designs that were less typical anime and more realistically shaped. Like one of the girls had a bit extra round the stomach. It was actually criticised quite heavily in Japan for having "unappealing" characters. In Japan thin is usually really thin from experience compared to western countries.

Maybe it is because I haven't watched much anime lately, but what are you talking about?

Pretty much this. I admittedly don't typically watch the medium, but most of the images and clips I've seen of female characters in modern anime pretty much all have the same appearance. They're predominantly fair-skinned, slender of build and have the exact same doe-eyed, noseless facial features with vacant expressions. If it weren't for the different hair styles and colors I wouldn't be able to tell them apart.

It's why I tend to prefer Western style animation, as there's more variety in the aesthetics and character design.

First MLP, then Lord of the Rings and now anime. Do you view all mediums that happen to have some skinhead fans/interpretations Nazi propaganda? Because you're going to have to swear off the vast majority of art and entertainment if you do.

You tend to have to go for the older mature ladies for the buxom, big build individuals. Your big sisters, uncomfortably attractive authority figures and the like. As far as I hear Japans got a bit of an issue with body negativity so I can certainly have issues but in the end they got bigger cultural issues at their core they need to clean up first.

Yeah...that anime is why I've come to the conclusion that most anime is utter fucking shit.

OT: Yes, I would like to see thicker women in anime, if only to make them proportionally more in line with the back breaking tits all anime seem to think are mandatory.

Personally, I'm a fan of plus size women, so curvier and thicker the better. In the context of anime, I'd just like for them to be proportioned like a normal fucking human being. But, since 99.9% of anime is fucking insane shit, I'm not optimistic that this will actually happen.

Neverhoodian:

If it's speaking to them on some level, clearly.

Anime's not being very damn subtle about it though.

Ballad of Evil Tonya. Need I say more?

Que sera sera. If it turns out the vast majority of art and entertainment is out there to push a right wing authoritarian message, I'll be glad to be rid of it.

What the hell are you going on about? Youjo Senki (japanese name) makes it very clear that the protagonist is on the nazi side and definitely not a good person, at all. In fact, her empire is portrayed as invading other places for no reason other than spreading their own culture and gaining power over all the land. And let's not forget the protagonist herself. A total asshole of a calculating, cynical egomaniac with delusions of deserved prosperity, whom happily uses other people as mere pawns in her failed climb to the easy life and has no problem using any means necessary to reach her goals, as long as she's allowed to do so by her superiors.

How in the world are you ever getting out of that that 'Nazi Germany did nothing wrong'? Yes Japan seems to have some kind of fixation with Nazi uniforms, thinking they look cool or something. And they certainly like using Nazis as a part of their setting in anime. But you're just plain wrong about Japan endorsing them. All anime I've seen that had some form of Nazis in them only ever painted them as bad guys or made them a laughing stock. Did you even watch Youjo Senki? Or did you just hear it from others or saw some short youtube vids and based your opinion on that?

On-topic: are we talking anime, or..."anime?" Like...the special anime, that we hide deep in a nest of innocuously-named subfolders.

If it's the former, I generally support more varied body types overall, because it helps distinguish characters from one another and generally contributes to better animation quality.

If it's the latter...well, I'm not opposed to cartoon badonkadonk, but it's never been a personal gripe of mine that there wasn't enough of it. I mean, maybe the Japanese are just more fascinated by massive breasts than they are by a prodigious badonkadonk. Honestly, I don't discriminate.

So...according to Wikipedia...

Wikipedia:
An atheist Japanese salaryman, in the moment of being murdered, is confronted by a self-righteous entity he refers to as "Being X" who condemns the man for not believing that "Being X" is God and sentences him to be reborn in a world that is similar to WWI Europe mixed with early aspects of World War II and magic, in an empire torn apart by countless wars with all nearby countries. The salaryman is reborn as a girl, Tanya Degurechaff. According to "Being X", if she's not able to die a natural death, or she refuses to have faith in Him, her soul will leave the circle and be sent to hell for the countless sins that Tanya has committed in her previous life. In search for an escape, Tanya decides to enter into the Empire's Mages Division and fight in the world war, hoping to reach a high enough rank as fast as possible to remain far from the battlefield and in this way avoid the risk of being killed. Even if she's now forced to speak with a young girl's lisp, Tanya soon turns into a ruthless soldier who prioritizes efficiency and her own career over anything else, even the lives of those beneath her, especially those that get on her bad side.

...what the fuck is that all about?

And how comically inept everyone EXCEPT the Empire is at warfare. I had to shut it off at seeing infantrymen firing on mages for the umpteenth time and having the balls to look surprised when their bullets do nothing. Again.

The character that's the heroine of the story, yes.

The (totally not German) Empire are brilliant strategists, honorable soldiers, have the cute Moe girls, and are not only possessed of technical and tactical acumen, but GOD IT'SELF blesses their prototype weapons to work beyond their expectations.

If my eyes rolled any harder, they'd have fallen out of my head.

It's a wank fest for German military memorabilia lovers. It's one thing to Mary Sue a character, that show Mary Sue's a whole nation. The Empire are righteous, smart, technically and tactically superior while all the other nations are too stupid to live, and blessed by God.

I'm curious what "countless sins" this atheist salaryman committed, that is being used as the stick for his soul. That sounds like a giant pile of shit to me.

bastardofmelbourne:
I got no idea what the context for that is, but I do know that Japan has a problem with right-wing revisionists who think that Imperial Japan did nothing wrong. It seems to be sourced basically from the fact that Japan never went through the process of "de-Nazification" that Germany did, with the result that modern Germans have a very clear and honest grasp of their country's unsavory history, but modern Japanese are not likely to even be aware of shit like Nanking. Schools just don't address the topic; students have to go find out about it on their own, and some of them slip into denial as a result.

Because people make anime and people are political, that thread sometimes appears in anime to a greater or lesser extent. Code Geass, for example, while being a pretty great show, had the uncomfortable premise of a formerly-independent Japan being conquered, subjugated and exploited by a fantastical stand-in for the USA blended with British imperialism. High School of the Dead, apart from the gun porn and...well, the regular porn, had a right-wing militia show up in the latter part of the season as the good guys. Which was weird, to be honest.

I mean, it never felt too blatant to me and I was often told I was reading too much into things, and I can accept that. But I feel that once you start thinking about it, you keep seeing this strong revisionist undercurrent running through Japanese media, tying anti-Americanism and the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki with denial of Imperial Japanese war crimes committed in the 30s and 40s. I don't even think it's intentional or malevolent; the Japanese just get taught "America nuked us, twice, and then we surrendered, but it's okay now," and no-one mentions all the parts about the rape camps and inhumane scientific experiments. I can't even blame them; sometimes, the history of Imperial Japan seems too cartoonishly evil to be real.

Japan, as a culture and civilization, I despise. If it's not this defiant smug self righteous shit that surpasses even our own, it's their fucked up "even if you are right, you shouldn't say anything" corporate bullshit they engage in.

And the racism. They do shit to non Japanese over there in 2017 that make pre civil rights Alabama look like a hippie commune.

A few game franchises I like and a few movies doesn't change that.

1) Protagonists aren't necessarily likeable. I do actually like Tanya but there we go.
2) Most of their 'brilliant strategy' comes from a character who vaguely remember something like this happening before in an alternate reality, so that's cheating slightly.
3) Mild spoilers, but 'God' is also blessing the Allies at the end of the season.

Basically giving zero shits about anybody else, being a compassionless tool interested in nothing but his own career progression.

The generic body types and faces are one of the reasons I don't watch a lot of anime. The last non-Studio Ghibli anime I watched was Gundam 00. And as fucking awesome as that was, it wasn't enough to make me give a shit about the rest of the crap the Land of the Rising Sun is tossing our way.
