Poll: You think anime should have thicker women(bigger asses and wider hips not just big boobs)

Smithnikov:

My main three pieces of evidence were Evil Tanya, Legend of Galactic Heroes, and Code Geass.

Also Girl Und Panzer to a lesser extent.

I never watched Evil Tanya or LotGH, but from what I have heard Code Geass is a ripoff of LotGH. Both are about trying to conquer the world and overthrow an backwards aristocratic system along with some other things that were most likely "inspired".

So anyways, In Code Geass, the Holy Britannian Empire are the bad guys. The entirety of the anime is trying to destroy the Holy Britannian Empire and to create a peaceful world. There is nothing possibly remotely likeable about the Britanians. They conquered Japan and treat their citizens like subhumans, calling them 'eleven' as a racial slur. In the first couple of episodes they start massacring civilians. The Japan-Nazi loving-angle is beyond absurd. The guy in the Hitler-esque speech you mentioned is the guy the MC is trying to kill.

I suspect that the evil Galactic Empire in LotGH is the same.

Honestly GuP is one million times more Nazi loving than Code Geass, because there is a girl who that dresses like and calls herself Erwin, and when you see the Afrika Korps insignia with the swastika removed, you think "mhmm nice try". Oh and this

Other than that, the main cast drives a Panzer IV because if they drove a Type 97, they would get completely rekted. The other teammeates drive a a StuG, M3 Lee, and Type 89, so their school has diversity in tanking hoho. Also the main character is related to the Nazi school sensei, and they fight the Nazi team later on so, eh...

Extra thicc always.

It's based on Prussia. The Galactic Empire practiced forced eugenics, but it was abolished and later looked down upon. They're not Nazis. Reinhard's empire doesn't round people into concentration camps or have crazy Uebermensch beliefs or use ancient symbols. Yes, they speak German, but frankly, German is a fine language that America would have been lucky to adopt in 1795. They also have similar uniforms to the Germans, but that's because Nazi Germany had great fashion, designed by a famous fashion designer. Do you say the same thing about Star Wars because of the Imperial uniforms?

The Galactic Empire isn't evil. There is no evil in LotGH. There are likable main characters on both sides.

Smithnikov:
I want anime to just stop sucking the Nazi party's proverbial cock. The "Germany did nothing wrong" circlejerk has already gotten me to swear off the medium entirely.

...

Umm... I know I'm gonna regret asking, but what does this have to do with THICC anime girls?

erttheking:
Where's the option for anime girls that look like actual fucking people? Where do I sign up for that?

Or you could replace all these boring women with THICC big bootied Amazonian goddesses

I'm going to back Ezekial on this, do you just see black uniforms and think Nazis? Not to mention that a frequent criticism of Reinhard's empire that even Reinhard acknowledges is that his very efficient autocracy is wholly reliant on the autocrat being good and the long standing war was started because a previous autocrat was a really shit nationalist/supremacist populist and nobody in universe wants that.

I'm also siding with Ezekiel on this. As much as I dislike Japan's weird fascination with military uniforms, it's not series like the classic space operas or even Saga of Tanya the Evil that make me question their knowledge of world history. Those series draw parallels to old Germanies (not always the one with the Nazis!), but they don't glorify those eras. If anything, they're critical.

And hey, it makes sense for them to take inspiration from these eras. Their own culture was heavily influenced by that part of Europe back during the Meiji Restauration. And going with Germany instead of Japan has two advantages for the people writing fiction: it's both recognisable and exotic to the readers.

In any case, I'm more worried about series that take bits of military history and strip them of real-world context. For instance, there are otaku who are really into weapons, uniforms, vehicles and so on, and admire them regardless of who used them and their role in history, turning everything into porn for military otaku. That's where shit gets weird.

BTW speaking of Germany, it wouldn't hurt Japan to be more like current Germany. Germany school spend a good amount of time teaching students about the darkest pages of German history, whereas Japanese school books tend to gloss over the human tragedies of the Second World War, instead focusing on dates and statistics.

Honestly I don't get the appeal of wider hip women. I can get big boob or butt but the hip? Just to be clear, I got nothing against women with big hip, I just don't understand the attraction toward that part of the body.

OP: Do you think Japanese animation could benefit from larger body types for women?
Thread: Lets discuss how Japan seems to glorify Nazi germany... also T H I C C women i guess.

Oh Escapist people, never change.

On the topic of body types and Japan, its pretty much the same way that you get western media constantly having the ideal woman be someone that's thin with a large bust and shapely butt, it's what the general viewing pubic see as ideal or what marketing departments want to push as ideal. Whenever it comes to discussions of Japan's lack of diversity in representation, whether it be in body types, skin tones etc, I always see two camps of arguments pop up that I'm somewhat curious about.

The first is that: Japan shouldn't change cause it's their Culture. An argument that pretty much boils down to "its their media, they can do whatever they want with it, 'we' as an outside demographic have no say or influence on what gets made there.", let Japan do Japan and all that; which is an argument that holds ground if you think about it in a 'its unique to them' kind of way. The key thing that makes other cultures appealing is their difference from one's own culture and if said culture doesn't offer thin, fair skinned girls on display en masse in animated media like Japan does, then there's reason there to say let Japan keep doing things their way, because as far as I know a lot of anime/manga is made for Japanese audiences with no thought of what outsiders would find more appealing, since a lot of sales for those mediums is domestic.

This is usually counter argued by the flip side of the argument: Japan should get with the times. Despite the modern technological age essentially bringing the world closer in terms of ideas through media, Japan still operates mostly as an isolated nation to some extent, meaning that the stuff they make is mostly for them with little thought of a worldwide audience, and this sometimes leads to their influences being mostly local. As such there's a lot of times when the media they make is very similar to one another, whether it be in story settings, or even character body types. Which leads to western/overseas audiences seeking some diversity because in a lot of western media, diversity is what's the talk of the town, some people are tired of seeing the same type of characters over and over again and are looking for some variety but would Japanese media provide such variety for an outsider audience? and audience who, unless I'm mistaken, aren't really considered much of an influence on sales (haven't looked up any recent figures that would prove that an international market supports japanese animation/manga as much as they do in game sales.)

Then again this is just outsider speculations and stuff, rarely do you get people from the actual anime/manga industry talking about this stuff (unless I'm not looking in the right places) to shed some proper light on how it is.

NPC009:

And then there's the sad case of Akira Hiramoto. In his early career, he wrote and drew the acclaimed manga Me and the Devil Blues. It was a commercial failure. As the story goes (and I have no idea if this is true), Hiramoto was so fed up with good manga failing, he set out to create the trashiest thing he could image as an act of rebellion. Prison School was a worldwide hit.

That's gotta suck, try to do something different and it bombs, but conform to the norm/niche and it sticks. I can kinda believe that Kangoku Gakeun (Prison School) was an extreme counter act to appealing to the niche because in the earlier chapters the absurdity of its titillation seemed like it was poking fun at just how absurd normal titillation in other works is.

Big hips tend to come with a shapely ass also they tend to look nice

Go watch super sonico

There's so much anime out there these days, I'm sure there's a gimmick for whatever your taste in women in.

It's unlikely the mainstream anime will change based on what the relatively small western market thinks of certain things.

You mean the one that's used to frame the obviously evil and fascist empire as obviously evil and fascist? You may have missed the subtlety of it, you know, it's easy to miss that the protagonist vows to kill him immediately after hearing it.

People who hold contemptible views agree with the villain of a work, so that's the creators fault? What the hell are you talking about!?

Fight Club doesn't celebrate fascism either. I dare you to read a comment section for one of Tyler's speeches.

Just because assholes did/wore/said something does not mean it can only ever be seen as celebration of their assholeness regardless of context. Also see:

Ohhh, I know all about Fight Club and it's influence. Fight Club is who I blame for the existence of 4chan in the first place.

Difference here, it was hijacked. Chuck Phalinuk actually came out and said "this is what _____ means and what I was trying to say."

Got any statements from the writers of those animes?

They're popular among people who're into blowing up innocent commuters and the like. Yeah, I know, kind of a different demographic than the other things mentioned, but hey, an asshole is an asshole.

Maybe the fact that the protagonist fucking murders the character you're talking about for being a dictator, a coward, and a bad dad? Code Geass is not subtle about the character making that speech being wrong and the villain. Code Geass is not subtle ever. Code Geass is very much the opposite of that.

And holy shit, blaming Fight Club for 4chan is hilariously misguided.

Ninjamedic:

...That they're not Nazis?

Probably not, but fans of them or sympathizers...I find it hard to believe they aren't.

Where do you think those scumbags got the Rules 1 and 2 from? Where do you think the term "Special Snowflake" got turned into a pejorative?

Just being someone uses something in a certain way doesn't mean the creator ever intentioned it to be used that way.

Also, by your logic Steven Spielberg is a total Hitler fan because he made movies that features Nazi characters.

Leave it to the internet to turn a thread about big butts to a thread about Hitler. Page one, at that.

Did he portray the Nazi's as almost comedically smarter, more capable, and more righteous than the Allies? Did he portray the Allies as hopelessly inept to the point of Japanese military vs Godzilla?

No, and neither do the anime you have in mind.

Not to mention what others have said before: the space opera shows and the like you mentioned only draw parallels between their bad guys and Nazi Germany. At most. In some cases it's just Germany. Or do you think Germany had no history up until the 1930's? Or that fiction is only every allowed to associate Germany with Nazi's? Don't you think that's rather insulting to Germany? Or do you fault writers for wanting to create villains that aren't just comically inept evil dudes?

If Super Sonico is not your jam, there's Super Pochaco, the chubby version. I'd post a picture, but they're overwhelmingly NSFW, so you'll have to google her yourself.
