While your ability to write is as good as ever, I am gonna have to agree with NewClassic that it seems your writing really becomes to personal to actually say something about anything. (or I might just be grouchy until the local food store opens and I can fill my empty stomach) You should write a novel like that. Also I was fascinated to discover (be told) that originality was a very new concept. I believe it is only during the last 200 years we have attributed merit to it. We will happily call something a ripoff of Shakespeare while the bard himself was highly aware that he was a ripoff. I guess this development is due to the amount of art produced and that our general knowledge of stuff is greater then in the days of old. Anyway, glad to see you are writing here again. |

I'll toast to that idea. He did say he was unemployed eh? Heres to hoping. |

Which is funny, because as it happens, I do very much enjoy getting bigger and better shotguns to viscerally tear apart midgets, so this game was right up my tee. Oh and just one thing, the driving force for playing actually meshed quite well with the story, considering the story was that you're a treasure hunter who wants shiny loot and the only reason to play is to get shinier loot... yupp. P.s. You should be hired by the Escapist, them other peoples is right. |

Can you do the story mode in 4 players in Halo? No. |

Anyway, it really proves my worst fears about Borderlands, and I think I made a wise decision of not buying it until it's pretty cheap. I had my fill of mindless loot progression with WoW. Given, Borderlands gives you direct control of the action, you actually shoot things yourself instead of giving your characters orders ala WoW. That might make grinding less annoying, but it's still not my favourite gameplay mechanic. That combined with the horrible multi-player system (surprised you left that untouched in your review) made me politely turn down Borderlands. I'll stick to L4D/L4D2 for my mindless FPS action. |

I had Borderlands lined up as my next major purchase following the conclusion of my exams, but it seems as though I am feeling increasingly less inclined to buy it having read numerous negative reviews on the subject. Not that yours is an exclusively negative depiction of Borderlands, it's just that the particular aspects of the game which you found positive enough to outweigh the unfavourable kind are, in my mind, not enough to justify the purchase. Still, it has far from escaped my intentions, and the praise it has received is no less bolstering of my confidence. A most enjoyable, if somewhat voluminous, read. I thank you for writing this, and look forward to more of your reviews. Also, congratulations on earning your degree thingummy.
If there were more game reviews scrawled on toilet walls, the world would be a better place for all mankind. |

All advice has been taken onboard and processed, and hopefully the next review will be a bit more...well, whatever. Chirpy, maybe. Certainly less frowny, if possible. It's Dragon Age next, but it's going to be a while. Hopefully I'll have some thoughts on it by the time all the other Dragon Age reviews start dropping in over the next week. Early impressions are positive. |
