Good review and interesting kind of review, with the whole sniper thing. The only problem I had was that you were reviewing god of war 1 (I think) and you had a picture from god of war 2. This is a very small complaint and you should treat this comment as a compliment. Look foward to see your halo review.
Good point. I think I'll fix that.
I guess I'm going to be the stereotypical commenter, here. God of War is awesome. Absolutely one of my favorite games. I've never played a Prince of Persia game (and now my gamer, um, "cred" has gone significantly down...), and I don't give a hoot about Greek mythology and how accurately it is displayed in my video games. I have the urge to go through each point you make and say "no, actually it isn't, because...", but I will refrain from that, because you were nice enough to warn me. ;) Concerning the review itself, I have mixed-feelings. On the surface, it's a thoughtful, well presented piece. It's certainly not a bad review, using our forum's standards -- spelling, grammar, and the like are fine. One little thing that irked me the wrong way was your extreme overuse of the colon. You managed to sneak it into almost every paragraph, and there was at least one instance of it used twice in one sentence fragment. If someone was ambitious enough to give this a red-pen, there are numerous edits that can be made, but on the whole, it's a mostly solid piece of writing. Now then. Fundamentally, writing a review with your primary objective being to rag on a popular game is, frankly, not a great idea if you're trying to write the best review you can. It will, probably, get you more views than average, and if that's what you're hoping for, fine. Maybe this was just unfortunately titled, and you genuinely went into God of War and Halo hoping for the best. Or maybe not. The platforming segment you touched on, in particular, seems forced. To me, at least, it seems as if you felt the review wasn't negative enough, and you needed one big flaw to bring up. The fact that you "couldn't really explain it" seems to support my hypothesis. Again, I am a fan of God of War. I like the platforming, I like the "interpretation" of Greek mythology, and I like killing people in extremely violent ways. I tried to put aside my total disagreement with all of your opinions, but maybe I wasn't able to. Either way, I look forward to reading future reviews. Just not one of Halo, I think.
It was an interesting read, I had never read a negative review of God of War besides this and I haven't play the game so I am not sure what to think but I do belive you when you say it's overhyped, anyway it was a nice review.
Considering that the Combat in God of War is Ok and the combat in every Prince of Persia is terrible I don't think you have much a leg to stand on here. I wasn't even until the third game that the bosses became anything beside protracted borefests whith the only way to excell being to spam counter. A slow-mo effect is cooler then cinematic grapple moves, really? Plus you dwell so much on the platformer aspects of GOW which are similar to Prince of Persia when the inspirations for the game are numerous (Zelda, Devil May Cry, Shenmue.) I like Prince of Persia more than God of War but the comparison isn't apt.
Happy to see someone ripping into GoW, since I watched a bit of it and didn't hop on the bandwagon.
I never, ever, ever had that problem with the minotaurs.
Huh. Maybe my controller was broken.
But it's already there...it's so biiig and rooouuund...
Well there it is.^ | |
Funny story: as it turns out, I like writing long and morbidly detailed reviews. Who'd a thunk it?
So, for the first and only time, welcome to:
H.T. Black's Sniper rifle reviews!
Here's how it works: I line up my figurative rifle with the figurative target, pull the trigger, and then tell you what happened next.
And then the Internet mafia pays me fifty grand.
So, without further ado, my first two contracts, games which are often considered to be the 'Flagships' of their respective platforms:
God of War
HALO 3
