User Review Of The Month

Can it wait for a bit? We're in the middle of some calibrations.

why

February 2012

Hello and welcome to another round of the Escapist Community Showcase. After the tremendous success of our Skyrim giveaway last year, we figured it was time to throw you people some more free games. That's right, we're here to spread the gift that keeps on giving and this month it's going to be none other than the one, the only, the ultimate space opera: BioWare's Mass Effect 3, the game you're all itching to play right about know. All you had to do for a shot at the free copy was to write a review to blow our judges respective socks off and hey presto: free game.

Once again we owe this contest to the neverending generosity of our editor Lost In The Void. I, in particular, would like to thank him for this opportunity to play bizarro-Santa for you people. I love my job.

What with the promise of free games and all, February has seen an unsurprising upturn in business. Ten people managed to submit reviews before the end of the month.

CounterAttack - Journey of the Elementals
BlueInkAlchemist - Deus Ex - Human Revolution
Phlakes - Dead Island
mParadox - Soul Eater
Proverbial Jon - Catherine
Starke - Saints Row: The Third
Sassafrass - Halo: Reach
VaudevillainVeteran - Tokyo Gore Police
Marter - Three Colors: Red
Pimppeter2 - The most comprehensive Skyrim review ever

As last month, since Pimppeter2 chose to enter the contest he was not involved in the judging. Luckily pigeon_of_doom decided to return for a second round as judge.

Now, without further ado, let's get straight to the results.

Another month, another victor forged in fire and ink. But why exactly did this piece win our hearts? Let's see what the judges say.

And this concludes another exciting showcase. Once again I'd like to thank all our judges and contributors and congratulate all our contestants for their effort. Three cheers for BlueInkAlchemist, and let's not forget Lost In The Void for his kind donation. Keep an eye out for us, we might just decide to do this again sometime. See you next month!

Damn, Joe, you're a hard man to please. XD
Also, kinda curious as to what flaws you found with my review, as I'm wondering if they're the same criticisms I got when I did Review Wars. :)

Anyways, congrats to Blue, Vaude and Jon for taking the top three spots and thanks to Lost for making this contest. Now, to go shopping and see if there's anywhere I can buy ME3 from near me. :D

DeadpanLunatic:
Mass Effect 3, the game you're all itching to play right about now.

And still itching now... just gonna make it worse. Still, I didn't think I was going to win anyway, it being my first attempt at a review and all. My (slightly bitter, given another loss to add to the tally) congratulations to Blue for achieving the highest score.

Side Note: A small message to my personal karma meter: you owe me some huge favours right about now.

Congrats BlueInk! Hope you enjoy that game!

I'd have entered into this contest to try to take this one like the Skyrim contest earlier, but... I'm one of these people not getting ME3 in protest. Shame that is. :s

Have lots of fun for me!

I'm honored to be chosen. Seriously. Being my own worst critic (aren't we all when it comes to creative endeavors?) I can see some problems with the review, and things I'd expand upon - and did, actually, later that week.

Still, I wanted to thank you all for your kind words and high scores. It's always good to know hard work is appreciated.

And rest assured, I'll let you all know how Mass Effect 3 is once I've finished my first playthrough. ;)

To give you the cliffnotes, less listing of features and more critical evaluation. Also the exclusive right-binding of pictures bugged me a bit.

Come now, you didn't do so bad! I mean, sixth place might seem harsh, but you're not all that far off in terms of points.

Beginner's luck and I get along like a pair of identically charged magnets: you can make us touch, but as soon as you take your hands away we go flying in opposite directions. Besides, I never expect to do well against people who have done something for so much longer than myself.
