You're browsing along, minding your own business, when all of a sudden you see a new forum here in Escapistland: User Reviews.

If you've been here more than a week, you'll notice we get a fair amount of user-written reviews posted to the Game Discussion forum. "Jees," you likely think, "there's enough reviews here for an entire forum!" And you'd think right! To eliminate some clutter, as well as make things a bit more sanctioned, we've created this forum for, well, user reviews. Post your reviews of videogames here, and leave game discussion to, well, Game Discussion.

Here's some guidelines for the User Reviews forum:

  • Standard rules apply.
  • Use whatever scoring categories you like.
  • However, if you use our reviewing metric (no scores, just a recommendation of Buy it/Rent it/Don't touch it at the end), there's a chance we'll feature your review on the front page.
  • This section is separate from our preexisting review team. We won't be providing anyone with review material.
  • Keep your criticism constructive. No one sets out to write poorly. Help others and it helps everyone!
  • Shampoo is better.

Carry on, and enjoy!

Questions You May Have

Q: Can we review a series, like The Legend of Zelda or Kingdom Hearts?
A: Yes. Good luck.

Q: I'm currently writing a report on my experiences with a system, not a game, would that go here or in "gaming discussion"?
A: If you think someone would use the report primarily to determine whether or not he'd buy the system, it goes here.

Q: Does this also apply to movie reviews?
A: Yeah. Reviews is reviews.

Q: Are we allowed to review any game, regardless of age? Or are we limited to only games that are shiny and new?
A: Anything you want!

Thank you. Greatly.

Can we put any reviews we've recently written but put in the Gaming Discussion forum here? Or is it a 'sleeping dogs lie' case?

Mostly the latter. I may take an hour or so at some point this week to move a few of the more active threads over, but let's stick to the grandfather clause for now.

If you'd really like one moved, send me a PM (little envelope next to my name on this post) with a link to the thread(s) and I'll drop it in this forum when I get a chance.

Would you consider said report to be something people might read if they were considering buying said console?

Yep, its basically a log of the (very drawn-out and difficult) purchase of and initial reactions to the Wii, along with brief reviews of a few games.

Hurray! So much for doing more Gamespot user reviews. Their .5 system can kiss .5 of the fattest part of my...cat.

Sure you can. Hell, I may even review a game on its cover art. While Lost Planet has you standing in the snow alot, you do look mighty cool. 5/5

Good show! Less clutter and a good way to avoid newbies getting hammered; through structuring and sanctioning a separate space for this.

Maybe I'll even hazard posting an amateurish review of my own now!
