yesterday i downloaded the 3d sculpting tool Mudbox and thought I would tell you something about it.

This sculpting tool is very simple to use and was designed that way to minimize the learning curve for beginners and pros alike. It is so simple I managed to create a very detailed head (no hair though that's too hard) within an hour of downloading the 30 day trial. I would upload a picture but the demo doesn't allow it. The program has a few basic meshes for you to choose from. Head mesh, Box mesh and sphere mesh. you then use your mouse and can sculpt to your hearts content with the brushes given to you.
It does recommend you use a tablet to draw your designs but a mouse is just as good for you.
This program is now owned by the 3d design giant Autodesk but was developed by Skymatter Studios, using their proprietary 'chameleon engine'.
To wrap up I'm just gonna cite the biggest project this was used on just to impress you with it's power. In 2005 Mudbox was used to develop the remake movie King Kong. Weta digital staff created the titular character using this program. This .mud file was then used in all the animation sequences for the movie
If you would like to disprove my opinions or download and trial it for yourself you can find the download here http://www.mudbox3d.com/
See ya, I'm gonna start on the body now. |
