Interesting that the guest reviewer wasn't nominated by the community, nor have any of us heard of him.

Not that I'm saying it was a bad review - it was actually fantastic. I'm just a little confused how this works. Why not just make him a contributor, rather than a guest reviewer, and save guest reviewing for the user review frequents?

That's a little presumptuous, seeing as you joined the forums a month ago.

EDIT: Two months even.

Maybe you misinterpreted what I meant... I was thinking that it should have been Gigantor, or you even.

Either way, that was a fine review, like I said before. Didn't mean to offend you and everyone that worked hard to get this going.

Can't you see this barnyard noise guessing game is tearing us apart?

Ehm. Like mjhhiv said, Josh's was an excellent review. I'm a bit afflicted by writer's block at the moment, which I'm blaming for the absence of my own review, but I'm sure it will resolve itself. Like Susan said, if you're interested in trying the Guest Review thing, send her things so she'll know. It's a level playing field, and everyone should take advantage of that.

Er, I'm quite aware that Josh's (is that his name?) review is better than anything I could produce under the time constraints/pressure of this gig thingy... I wasn't trying to suggest I thought I deserved this, if that is how my post came across.

Again, great review by the guest reviewer, and I'll be looking forward to reading the next one.

Hell i would have a shot at reviewing a game!!!

Choose me a game and I shall probably rent it and give it the best darn review it has ever had!

Read the FAQ on the first page. You pitch the game to the Escapist, not the other way round.

One question I thought of last night though. Does a guest review have to be on a new(ish) game, or can we flex our retro fingers?

I asked the same question by PM; apparently, they'll take it case by case. The older it is, the more special it has to be to warrant a mention, and reviews of the over-saturated games, such as the likes of Halo, are not appreciated.

Well, there goes any hope I had for Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri, I guess...

*looks around collection*

Well, I do have a fully expanded copy of Europa Universalis III sitting around...

I was going to try for Dink Smallwood (if anyone remember's or even knows of that game) but due to the pictures not working, and the thing not falling together, I might disband it.

Maybe I'll try with Heroes of Might and Magic 3 or an equaly older game.

Hey Susan, I sent you two PMs. One was a dumb question I answered after digging around in the thread some more (woops!), and another was an actual pitch for Strange Attractors 2 along with the review.

I'd recommend Rak's spacewar review for a guest review spot. The piece he has is a great starting point and with the right editing and redrafting it could be a very interesting retrospective on one of the games that shaped gaming as we know it.

I remember Dink Smallwood!

Man, that sounds like an ad campaign for something or other.

Thanks for the recommendation. I'll PM and see if they're interested.

One more note: Though I encourage you to ask any questions you like via PM, please submit any reviews you'd like evaluated to me at susan@escapistmag.com as a Word doc. It's much easier to read them that way, as opposed to that tiny little PM window.

One of these days, I'll actually write a review solid, long, and well-edited enough to submit. Yeah, sure... One of these days.

i am a great reviewer but i guess i come off as more of a critic when i dont like some thing because i make it; weather its inanimate or not, feel like shit and have no hopes of being an better than it already is. because i am an anarchist and a anti-religious person even though i am tolerant...to a degree.

I appreciate just how difficult it is to write a review (or any article) that is of the appropriate quality standards to be accepted for this site, so well done to those who have been able to get their reviews featured.

*sniff* No one's nominated me yet...

I am still going to write weekly reviews anyway; even if I don't make it to Front Page.

Just you try and stop me.

SIDENOTE: While I do review games, I will probably not review only games.

EDIT: Maybe a mod can evaluate my 'The White Chamber' review?

The best way to register your intent to be featured in a Guest Review would be to PM Susan (my sense of etiquette just went out the window for addressing somebody that I don't know personally by their first name) with your pitch.

You know, the Escapist could do with a stapler review. Just sayin'.

Hey Joe: Shamelessly self-promoting since 1987.

I'll have you know we discussed that very review at our last editorial meeting.

Haha. Either Root is right, or you have very little time and too many staplers on hand.

Behold as the Escapist finally learns. Obey the Doctorpus for he is always right. And also a Doctor.

Congratulations to Rak. It's a fantastic piece.

Folks, please, when you're submitting guest reviews, include your name (both real and user name) on the review itself. Thank you!

Best yet, I'd say, but since I've followed SimuLord's review work from the very first game he reviewed, I'm not surprised that there's quality there. I only wish that I could be as consistent.

It is. Spectacular review. Well Done SimuLord.

I have a question. Do you only consider entries that are sent to you, or do you scour the reviews section for gems as well?

One complaint about the review: He says that you feel like you paid 30 bucks for something the modding community could do for free. Well and good, except the modding community already has done it for free (sans sound). There is an open source psuedo-clone of colonization floating around the web.

Other than that, excellent review.
