Paperboy Posts: 20 Joined: 17 Feb 2008 | I've had game journalism jobs before (not reviewing perse, but I'm willing to try.) Is it possible to submit a review anyway? I think it'd be better to get good reviewers based on skill and not popularity (though, I might suck at reviewing, I'm sure there's more lurkers who are good at reviewing than active users.) |

Ok, that's taking it a little too far. |

Dude. I'm just askin'... Kidding though, seriously. Not even I'm desperate enough to take on a man with a famous pederast as his avatar. |

I am not speaking officially but, I am pretty sure that The Escapist has the resources to find experienced writers of game reviews. This seems as much of a community building event as it is way to find a gem in the rough. That being said, I hope this encourages some of you lurkers to get to know us a little better and share your ideas and thoughts. Why not? We certainly don't bite, well most of us at least... I'll try to submit something, but it will fail lots hehe, lots and lots. User was banned for: Lock please.. (Permanent) |

Well, I was hoping to get a sampling of folks, so that it was a few different people working on a rotating basis. But nothing is set in stone just yet. Also, Gigantor, please check your PMs. I've sent you a few, but have yet to get a reply. |

I've not got any PMs showing up in my Inbox. I only just PM-ed you to say that, but then it occurred to me that that if the PMs weren't working there might be a flaw in my chosen method of reply. Could it be a "Zero Punctuation killing the server" thang? |

I love you and the other guy who mentioned me. ^_^ I feel a little more special that somebody actually thinks my reviews are decent enough to be put up in the actual magazine...thing. Um, not saying I'm nominating myself, but I am going to be getting some new games soon and (likely) doing reviews of them, so if you are looking for somebody...I'm more than willing. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2166 Joined: 23 Dec 2007 | Is it wrong that I feel unloved right now? *runs away like scorned prom date* Anyhow, I'd like to add Tendo and Nilcypher to my recommended list, but then again I haven't been poking my nose in the reviews forums for a while, so there could be some exciting new talent I don't know about. |
Muckraker Posts: 249 Joined: 17 Dec 2007 | I'd second Nilcypher. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2354 Joined: 14 Sep 2007 | I'd like to nominate myself. I was thinking of studying journalism in university in the hopes that I'd eventually score a gig at a game magazine. This'd be good practice for me. |

As a student of journalism myself, I'll tell ya right now that we once had the same dream, but getting a journalism degree is tough work just to try and work for a game magazine. It's a labor of love, because there's an awful lot of labor involved, and if you want to do well, you're going to want to really be willing to go out and do whatever needs to be done to get the story you need. Getting a degree to work for a game magazine is ok on paper, but in practice, you may be a little disappointed. |

This sort of thing is one of those careers (like music, acting, film and dance) where having ones foot in the door and knowing lots of people is the best way (degrees and ability are good too!) and this is somthing that will do both Well done =D |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 1812 Joined: 8 Apr 2008 | I wish I was better at writing reviews. I'm an excellent writer, but despite being extremely clever and witty in person, it never makes it to paper. Most humor I put into what I write ends up seeming forced or unnecessary. Anyway, I agree with most of the votes made. I've never read any of Tendo's reviews, though, to be honest. |

I think that's if you want payment for your writing. If you're just doing it for the experience, the Escapist doesn't have to do all sorts of legal things to pay you a minuscule amount of money (I'm guessing people who are new writers are lucky to get say...40c a word? Sound about right Escapist crew?) Anyhow, I'm guessing you can still do work experience if you're outside of America. Oh yeah READ MY REVIEWS DAMMIT! |

Being from Canada doesn't count against you in this case, because a) it's an unpaid position, and b) we wouldn't be sending you games. Both of those issues become problematic as soon as you start dealing with international writers. |

Say, then, how does Yahtzee function then? He's in Australia, which is a LOT further away from Canada, but don't you guys send him games? |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1873 Joined: 13 Jan 2008 | Hmm, both Gigantor, RentCavalier and Nilcypher are really good. But you could snag basically any of the people who got reasonably far in the review competition and they would all be good. |

I was going to ask that. Until I realized. It's fucking Yahtzee. His hat prints money. |

Haven't you noticed? All the funny British dudes wear stupid hats. Look at Terry Pratchett. He has a retarded hat of epic proportions. |
Press Junketeer Posts: 454 Joined: 4 Jul 2008 | Merry times, Sammy. Just a bit editor crazy. Anyway, I've been reading Gigantor's reviews, and they blow mine out of the water. I thought some of the reviews I'd wrote earlier and the couple I had written for here so far were pretty good, but Gigantor's are incredible. |
