Check the FAQ on the opening post. Text only I'm afraid. |

News Room Contributor Posts: 3899 Joined: 21 Feb 2008 | Ah, my apologies, I misunderstood what you were asking. |

Yeah, when I read this, I immediately hearkened back to some of Gigantor's earlier reviews... and that man DESERVES a paycheck from the Escapist... I would love to see MORE Gigantor reviews get public recognition... User was banned for: Ipod Saves Girl's Life. (Permanent) |

I'd bet that everyone on the Escapist knows of Gigantor, so I don't think public recognition is an issue. Either way, he deserves this more than anyone else. |

On the Record Posts: 5674 Joined: 2 Dec 2007 | Yeah, I'm still not sure why he [Gigantor] doesn't have a job in this kind of industry |
Press Junketeer Posts: 454 Joined: 4 Jul 2008 | Maybe he's boycotting money. |
Time Lord Posts: 10129 Joined: 13 Feb 2008 | I'd obviously put Gigantor first, but I think there's a good number of people catching up on the 'Wilde' thing. :) |

Same... as long as that doesn't make me sound too pretentious... |

Infamous Scribbler Posts: 502 Joined: 2 Dec 2007 | Hum... Not bad idea but i am to busy playing wow to become a forum troll again, so good luck to Gigantor and (cough) purple rain. ¬¬ |

Aww, you know you we have something. A love-hate relationship, but it's still something. Thanks anyway. Anyway, I was wondering why you weren't around so much of late. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 3517 Joined: 20 Aug 2008 | Where regards the Guest Reviewer rotation I'm thinking I'll have to contribute more content and earn my chops around here because that's exactly the sort of gig I'd love to do. For now I nominate Gigantor---that GTA4 review was epic. As epic as five hundred words can be, anyway. |

Hmm...perhaps, though obviously I'd rather have some variety. There are so many games out there, we shouldn't really need to overlap all that much. Also, the very first Guest Review is up, so make sure to check it out. :) |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 863 Joined: 22 Jun 2008 | Interesting that the guest reviewer wasn't nominated by the community, nor have any of us heard of him. Not that I'm saying it was a bad review - it was actually fantastic. I'm just a little confused how this works. Why not just make him a contributor, rather than a guest reviewer, and save guest reviewing for the user review frequents? |

That's a little presumptuous, seeing as you joined the forums a month ago. EDIT: Two months even. |

I just had a peek at Josh's post history and I don't see any actual reviews in there. The review was adequate but I suppose any opinion I have of it will be filtered through a shiny green lens of envy. Oh and there was a broken sentence in there as well. Tsk tsk.
|
News Room Contributor Posts: 3899 Joined: 21 Feb 2008 | So, rather than congratulate Josh on being the first guest reviewer, you set on him like a pack of wolves because he doesn't have half a billion posts to his name? Come on people, let's not ruin this before it even gets started. |
King of the Yetis Posts: 2539 Joined: 15 Jul 2008 | You could have gotten Jesus Christ himself in to guest review and we'd still hate him for it. Jealousy my man. It motivates us all. |

Red Guard Posts: 2672 Joined: 16 Dec 2007 | I'd just like to address the community as a fellow member for a moment. I say, "Save the popularity contests for youtube, and keep The Escapist a bastion of good writing and fresh ideas." I hope we see more reviews like this; games who should be noticed, but didn't have the marketing budget. I really like the idea and I hope I don't see it degenerate into mindless, if deserving, praise for portal. For anyone who is thinking "my review was better." Be careful, just because an internet forum likes you doesn't mean your writing is amazing. People say nice things about you with the same anonymity that they start flamewars, post goatse pictures, and make jokes about 9/11. That's my 2 cents. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1566 Joined: 5 Dec 2007 | Yeah cmon people, the guy brought into light a very interesting game that most of us never had heard of and did a great job doing it. The community here is hardly the greatest filter for good writing anyway, as soon as somebody published a review that is not a complete mess we all cling to it and praise it's awesomeness. Perhaps we should raise our standards. |

People don't cling to MY reviews! *runs away and cries in the corner* Seriously people, stop with the playa hatin', there's more than enough cheddar to go around. Fo sho!. I'm sorry...I've been playing GTAIV a lot today. Instead of whinging about not being picked, go write quality reviews on a consistent basis. Trust the Escapist staff, they generally know what they're doing with this whole 'games journalism' business. |

I strongly support those people who actually go forth and review games that were under-rated in their time. First of all, I feel that it's more satisfying for the reviewer, knowing that they aren't simply concluding the same criticisms as everybody else, and secondly, I think it's more challenging, because you have to think, "It doesn't matter if you haven't heard of this game, you should play it anyway!" As such, I felt that the review did a good job of being the first Guest Review. There will be enough time for the rest of you: if The Escapist thinks your work is acceptable, then you will be chosen; if not, and you're ambitious enough, fix your reviewing style so that it works in accordance with what the staff want. If you can't do that, you're clearly not cut out for this reviewing business. |

Maybe you misinterpreted what I meant... I was thinking that it should have been Gigantor, or you even. Either way, that was a fine review, like I said before. Didn't mean to offend you and everyone that worked hard to get this going. |
Senior Editor Posts: 2301 Joined: 9 Jan 2007 | Also, don't be timid. If you think you've got the chops, send me a PM. I'm more than happy to read sample reviews from anyone who's interested in being featured as a Guest Reviewer. You will be held to some pretty high standards, however, so if you're uncomfortable receiving constructive criticism, you may want to hold off on submitting until you've had a bit more practice writing. |

Anyway, if it goes on a rotation, I wouldn't mind stepping to the plate and being all I can be (with the help of MS Word).
