Blech, I hate lettuce. It has the most unpleasant texture, I don't understand why people even eat it. They must hate themselves or something, I don't see why else they would subject themselves to such a singularly unpleasant food.

Don't even get me started on salad.

As sandwhiches go, I like Peanut Butter and Jelly. It's delicious. It's the perfect sandwhich and you all know it. Nothing complex. Just peanut butter and mother fucking jelly.

Jelly? In a sandwich? Why would you do that? Ohhh... I'm from across the pond, and here we call it jam.

Man, when you've been on a ship for 6 months and the food sucks and that's all you eat is friggin' peanut butter and jelly EVERY FRIGGIN' DAY, come back and talk to me and see if you still love it. You insult the beauty of a true Sandwich with your PB&J.

I hereby motion that Sandwich should be capitalized.

huh. You sure feel srongly about this sandwich, Carl. You know, it sounds a lot like one Subway did, or was it Quiznoes? Anyway, it was delicious.

Also love meatball sub, chicken marinara sub, and a toasted turkey sandwich with mozarella cheese.

EDIT: After reading posts immediately previous to this one, I also second that Sandwich should be capitalized. I would, however, like to add an asterisk. I think Sandwich should be capitalized only when it is being used in reference to sandwiches such as this. Sub-standard sandwiches do not deserve capitalization.

Sandwiches have always been the best lunches. I personally love going to Jimmy johns and ordering a Gargantuan but the best sandwiches are the ones you make yourself! Building your own slice of golden delicious heaven and enjoying every bite.

I love this thread and I delight in a great sandwich. I would have to say my favorite comes from a deli in Syracuse, NY called the Brooklyn Pickle. It is mounded with turkey, with melted cheese of your choice on top. THEN they put on the fresh tomatoes and lettuce and banana peppers. *sigh*

Now I'm hungry and 11 hours away from that succulent sandwich.

Actually, the one you're looking for is The Bobbie. It's made by a Deli called Capriottis, which can only be found in Nevada, Pennsylvania, and oddly Delaware. It's a sub roll with a nice dose of mayonnaise, cranberry sauce, stuffing, and fresh pulled turkey. I would kill one of you for one of these sandwiches right now. It is Thanksgiving in a sandwich.

image

Seriously.

I look forward to Thanksgiving Sandwiches like this all year. And this picture literally made my mouth start to water. Only 6 more weeks to go :(

Damn, I forgot that. I was at a construction job and needed a quick and tasty lunch so I made a sandwich to take to work to eat that day (the day after Thanksgiving.) Slab of my mom's dressing, huge slice of turkey breast, white bread. Unbelievable. Perhaps the happiest I've ever been eating lunch.

@fish food cart: what is the sandwich called? It sounds wonderful but I must know the name.

I have also recently rediscovered a love of sandwiches. There's an American sandwich chain here called Jimmy John's. My favorite is the "#11 Country Club" on 7 grain bread.

Mmmmm. Sandwiches. Fantastic review. And here it is lunchtime!

I'm a Sandwich experimenter, myself. Some faves:

turkey slices, havarti cheese, granny smith apple (or some other crunchy apples, preferably a bit tart) slices, and a dab of mayo on the bread (preferably wheat)

chicken slices, cheddar cheese, alfalfa sprouts and spicy brown mustard

Simple, but fabulous: baguette with camembert. Had this recently after walking arounfd the gardens at Versailles for a couple of hours. Was a warm day so the cheese had gone a bit melty. Divine.

The humble Jam and butter is the finest sandwhich in the world. With just the right amount of butter, then a smidgen of Jam and with perfectly soft bread (but if its too soft it will break) you will have the finest Sandwhich God and the Known Universe has ever...well...known!

1) Cheese on bread (preferably Gouda)
2)Microwave for 30sec
3)meat (any kind)
4)top slice of bread

Quick, easy, delicious.

No. I shall tell you the secret of the ultimate bacon sandwich. What you require is: bacon, bread, butter (NOT margarine), a (microwavable) plate and a microwave.
Place two rashers of bacon on the plate, put it in the microwave on full power for 2 mins. While waiting for that to do, butter the bread. When the bacon is finished (checking that it is cooked properly first), put the bacon on the bread, then the sandwich on the plate. You may have noticed that all the bacon fat is still on the plate; this is the point. The bread soaks up all the tasty juices, so you get a completely bacon-tasting sandwich.
The best bacon sandwich you will ever taste*

*(Note, this is just my opinion).

Speaking of the TF2 Sandvich, I heard a physics teacher who brought a homemade, exact replica Sandvich to school every day (and ate it, obviously). From what I heard, a student commented on it and they wound up discussing TF2 all week at lunch.

Sandwhiches and Sandviches can truly bring people together, as this thread clearly shows. Now I really want that burger again... Mmmm....

Anyway, just to be safe, do you guys consider a hamburger a sandwich or not? I've seen people vehemently say they aren't before, so I'm kind of curious. I'm all for burgers being sandwiches, but we might as well get an official vote on it.

It is a sad day when a thread about sandwiches dies. Life is too short to not talk about the things that we can all agree on, even on a website where we can all agree on one thing. Sandwiches are awesome. I present to you...

2 grilled cheese sandwiches. Wrapped lovingly around a freshly cooked burger. It's like Stuffed-Crust Pizza and McDonalds had a baby. And I will one day have him.

It's a tough call, but I'd have to say no, unless the burger is between slices of bread. Cobs/Rolls aren't sandwiches, they're filled Cobs/Rolls.

A sandwich has to be a gestalt, rather than just a combination.

L.B.'s Quadruple Bypass counts because the ingredients alone aren't as awesome as them all together.

It'd be like having a BLT made with ketchup instead of tomatoes...just wouldn't be the same.

Time for my second heart attack on this thread alone. You guys quit posting pictures of death on a plate, my arteries hurt. I mean it!

See, if we're talking about sandwiches from the halls of Tesco, I'm partial to the deep fill tuna & sweetcorn jobby. Tasty tuna, crunchy sweetcorn, and the faintest tang of lemon to the proceedings.

To follow on, is a baguette a sandwich? I mean, it fulfills the normal criteria and Subway does refer, laughingly, to it's staff as 'sandwich artistes'. (I kid you not)

Funny, no-one referred to the Tea Lady as a barista.
