God, I really don't want to do this review, and I'll tell you why.
Now, we all remember the first Gears, whether you played it or not! It was a great success with it's multiplayer and so on, but does the first game live up to daddies legend? Lets find out.
The story begins, the locust has returned after surviving the last major human attack and are sinking cities left and right using a great and powerful device! The humans find that the only way to end this war is to take the fight to the locust! In doing so you, (Marcus Fenix) and the rest of Delta Squad, head off to destroy the last of them while also trying to find Dom's lost wife.
The story is alot more emotinail but repetive and that means that everthing will get boring after a while, and i mean very boring
The combat is still the same as the first game. Other reviews say the cover system was improved but it seems the same to me! Playing through the main story you don't need much skill as the NPC's do a lot of the work and even though the AI has been improved, they still screw up from time to time providing the more patient players with great opportunities. This is why in multiplayer you do need skill...well not really. All I needed to do was master grenade throwing and the shotgun. After that I seemed to be flying through multiplayer. Now let me state some new combat features: -Chainsaw dueling - Executions - No more sniper active reloads I could state more but i will be onest nothing really that new has changed!.
I believe they introduced the chainsaw dueling because the first game would give you very little chance at living, as an unexpected chainsaw attack would swiftly end it. In doing so this created the term, 'chainsaws are noobie.' Now they give us a chance to reverse this phrase, as the idiots are now the people who can't defend themselves against one simple chainsaw attack.
Now let me talk about multiplayer: It's the same (more a less). Many people now have to better their tactics because of the bigger maps. One thing that really annoyed me was the phrase: "It isn't like Gears of War 1!" This is one of the things that annoy me about gamers that played the first thing. Cliffy.B said it was bigger, better and more badass, indicating it isn't the same as Gears of War 1... I just couldn't understand why people keep thinking that they should use all their original tactics they had because they think it should be the same game as the first. If it were the same game then there wouldn't be any point to a Gears 2, ok!
There are many new game modes such as king of the hill, which is a harder version of annex. But my favourite mode would have to be horde a game mode in which you take on around fifty legions of locust AI, and you're only grouped with four other buddies. This is a really interesting feature because it introduces a much more larger co-op scale... along with lots of locust.
The most annoying feature about multiplayer is the amount of time it takes to find a game. First it searches for players matching your skill and then stutters for about ten minutes. After we found a game, the things don't last as long as five rounds (which is normally the minimum) so this made me wonder why did I wait so long for the match to start. Also when I enter the game I would have to wait about another minute until it loaded the textures (this part of matchmaking may be to do with my connection but it always happened. So don't take my word for it, unless you completely trust me... guys?) While we're on the subject of graphics I might as well congratulate Gears for having the best gore and destructive graphics I have ever seen. It adds to the overall epic stature of a combat situation when you're tearing a baddy in two with a chainsaw, only to have the blood wash up on screen!
I didn't find this game to be the best game have ever played but I would rather you make this decision yourself on that one. I would say, if you are planning on getting it, you should give it a rent first.

Gone Gonzo Posts: 1062 Joined: 26 Apr 2008 | I didn't like the first GeOW much. A lot of enemies (notably, bosses) had pretty cheap tactics, the active reload system didn't work well for some guns, and the environments were confusing to navigate.
As for the review, quick and to the point, just how I like. Just needs a tiny bit of capitalisation here and there.
Good Job. |

You overused the exclamation marks a bit though!

God, I really don't want to do this review, and I'll tell you why.
And then not telling us why. Unless you meant that you really don't want to do the review because the first one was, in your words, a "great success" and you don't want to sully its good name with a bad review.
The others being that you spelt "emotional" "emotinail", and one or two of your "i"s need to be given the "shift key" treatment. But aside, from that, good job. |

So the game suffers in score because of the players? |

But you do need to work on the spelling a tiny bit (and I believe a few of the ones in this review may well have just been typos)
Also I agree with Fire Daemon that you did use exclamation marks a bit too often! |

I think that the old Moogly had more charm than this one. Games for windows was just... epic. |

Not at all together no, but it's multiplayer suffers over the players |

Just saying...
Anyways I found the review to be quite decent as it was. Straight to the point, just how I like it. Kudos and keep it up mate. |
