(3) Bethesda vs. (5) Firaxis:

Bethesda: Bethesda comes out of The 16 strong, moving Crytek gently over to the side of the brackets where they can watch the game with 56 other developers.
Firaxis: Another No. 1 bites the dust, and Firaxis moves into the realm of the Great 8, Sid leading the charge. Will they conquer the Bethesda civilization as well?

My vote goes to Bethesda.

Even though I think Bioware has pretty much got this bracket wrapped up.
Lets see if Civilization fans can pull off another victory.

Gah! I love Civ IV and Elder Scrolls IV so much! Why did they have to get the fourth version so very, very right?!

This is an easy call, Firaxis. While Morrowind was good Oblivion was average at best (albeit very pretty average), on the other hand Firaxis has been very consistently good with some of the best games of all time under their belt (Alpha Centauri for example).

If Bethesda win this then I will break down and cry. Oblivion had about as much depth as a paddling pool.

Civilisation....'nuff said tbh.

I'm on for Bethesda. Don't have enough love for Civ to vote the other way.

If I have to choose between them I go with Firaxis all the way. Unless Fallout 3 is a complete turnaround from previous games they've produced that's how the scales will stay...

To be honest I couldn't care less for either of them but considering that I put down Oblivion after 1 hours of playing, my vote goes to Firaxis.

Civilization IV revived the franchise and made it new again. Oblivion almost made people forget why they loved Morrowind in how it was... unsastisfying. Civ all the way.

Firaxis 43.2% (41)

Bethesda 55.8% (53)

Can Firaxis make it back from this deficit?

I wouldn't care so much if Firaxis won, I just voted for Bethesda because I enjoyed Oblivion so much while the Civ franchise never interested me.

I was addicted, 24/7 to Civ IV for about two weeks. Loved it. Then it got old.

Spent 6 months playing Oblivion on-and-off. Found all too many holes in it; but the presence of Sean Bean still made it a highly enjoyable gaming experience.

Bethesda for me.

I had to vote Bethesda here, as well. The Civilization games never really got under my skin, while Oblivion, and other Bethesda offerings, have.

Morrowwind was one of my favorite games, why was oblivion dumded down so much? Never liked Civ, for RTS there are alot beter choices out there.

Both are great studios, but I'm going with Firaxis on this.

I went for Bethesda, my favourite game developer ever since I even read about Morrowind. I loved Pirates of the Caribbean (sp?)and Oblivion too. The best part of the TES games are that they don't just simply show you the credits and end after that. You can continue playing after that, and the TES Construction set allows you to virtually fix anything you do not see fit in your opinion.

I agree with Reload92 about Bioware, since Mass Effect seems to be giving it tons of votes, however if Bethesda faces off with Bioware, its Morrowind that would give them a chance of winning, even if facing off against games like NWN (which was the only thing that made me play something else than Morrowind) and Mass Effect.

YYYYYYYY??????? do u have to put these 2 studios against each other? i love both but i have considerable questions about bethsedas oblivion.....was someone there hit on the head with a yard iron and then everyone felt bad? so they made them lead designer? oblivion was so dumbed down i cried there was no depth maybe a 5 year old could splash around in it but as 17 year old muaw it sucked and well i havent played the new civ only number 3 and it was better than oblivion i still play it in fact as soon as im done here im going to play it!!!1 so i guess i have to go with firaxis unless we are just comparing civ 3 and morrowind in wich case morriwind baybe!!1

Civ isn't an RTS... and Firaxis has so much more going for it than just Civ, what does Bethesda have other than Elder Scrolls?

Firaxis for making consistently good games. Oblivion was quite the letdown - particularly the auto level system. Heck, it wasn't even enjoyable to play, unless you modified it with plugins.

Firaxis. Why?

Because no amount of Roleplaying-swordwanking-spellsinging-i-dont-care-about-you-people-so-why-do-i-have-to-save-ya?! can replace the warm, cozy felling of blowing half of alpha centauri into nice blue waterish oblivion with planet killer bombs, which i usualy build for the singular reason blow the crap out of my co-humans.

Burn Planet! BURN!

I have to say Bethesda. At times it seems that every game in the Civ series is the same as the last with a small tweak

Why do some people vote based on the latest game released by that dev, and not how magnificent the past games have been? Like for Bioware vs Ubisoft, Bioware got alot of votes because of Mass Effect, and Ubisoft lesser because Assassin's Creed wasn't that good. Now Oblivion is doing the same to Bethesda...yeah i agree about consistency but IMO Oblivion isn't that bad and Morrowind was heavenly, a dream come true for me, it was.

Well thats about it unless a miracle happens. Lets see if Bethesda can pick their selves up and come back to face Bioware/Turbine.

Not really, when i voted Bethesda was leading by quite a few votes. Now it seems Bethesda has won. Sure, they may not be massively famous all over the world and getting tons of fanboys like Blizzard, but they are great developers and I'm hoping they'll pull off an upset.

Ah another kindred spirit, i used to set up airports surrounding my enemies territories so i could remove all evidence of them off the map in one glorious quantum planet killer flash.

Please vote for Firaxis people.
