Be courteous, polite and acceptive of what may happen, say, if you die, don`t complain because it very well is or could be contributing to the greater good of the story in question. |

I'm sort of a one person Welcome Wagon... in that I'm so lonely... But yes! I'm full of answers and just waiting to dispense them to noobs and nubs and newbs alike. |

What in Odin's name is a nub? Anyway, plot an intricate story to be told and make enjoyable stuff happen. |

You make a name for your character, give it a back story, age and maybe some weapons (if the RP asks for it). When you've done that your in the RP. When the game starts your free to do anything that your character can do. You can talk to the other players characters via your character, fight other characters, jump, run. press buttons, examine things whatever. A good GM (game master) or DM (dungeon master) if you're taking part in dungeon crawler will progress the story by giving you things to do, monsters to fight and NPC's (non player controlled characters [I think]) to talk to (or fight). To sum it up, you do things as your character with other people doing things as their character. I advise starting off in someone else's game before making your own. Get some RPing experience first. Some Guidelines are: be polite, only do things your character would do, don't make your character too cool/badass or un-killable because people don't like that, be patient and don't make hundreds of OOC (out of context) posts, don't act like the game is about you (your one of a dozen players) and make sure you keep active in the game (certain RPs have failed because people stopped turning up). Oh and have fun, I suppose that's important. |

I read several before I even signed up to the Escapist (The Cyberpunk lyncher I followed with particular interest when I was lurking) and although I haven't been in a full fledged one yet (unless you count the election thread) I still think it gave me a good idea of what to do and what to avoid. Also the guidelines at the top of this forum are really useful.
Ever heard 'nab'? It's a mate of mines favourite, although he also says PLOX for please... luckily its usually as a piss-take. |

Aww, at least you tried, more than most can say. I would have joined if I weren't so busy when it started. |

What exactly do you want to know? To join an RP just tell the gamemaster that you want to join, and if it isn't too late you'll be in. Make a character, start posting. Details will vary depending on the RP you're in. Some are using established tabletop RPG systems, some are using systems they made up, and some are just winging it. Genres range from steampunk to counter-terrorist and everything in between. And as for people helping newbs...ask and ye shall recieve an answer. |
BANNED Posts: 5167 Joined: 26 Feb 2008 | My rules seem to be fairly popular with the players I have had in the past, so here they are. Feel free to keep, alter, or discard whatever ones you want: 1) Jedi get 5 Force Powers. If everyone chooses similar things (And you have to be more specific than TK, I want to hear Force Push, Force Run, Force Jump, Lightsaber Throw, Force Choke, etc, not just Telekinesis...) Know this, I will put an obstacle in your path that you can't just TK your way past. I will make you think, and possibly even get stuck if you only have certain force powers... I highly recommend bringing an expert hacker along... 2) You have limited supplies. If you carry a Rocket or Torpedo Launcher, you get 1 pistol and some spare supplies. You are not Rambo, No one in your party is. 3) People move like real people. If you are a Jedi, think Jet Li movies. If you are a Soldier, think Rambo, but not as physically strong (High pain threshold, normal intelligence, able to run with 50 Kilos strapped to your back, but not much else...). If you are a Smuggler, think John McClane.... 4) A well balanced group will have no problems handling any situation I throw at you. An "All Jedi" team will go straight to Myrkr, NO JEDI teams will get ambushed by Force Users... 5) I want everyone to be unique. Yes, there will be a few humans, but you can be any species from any planet, except Yuuzhan Vong. NO CLONES. Other than that, YOU CAN DIE, AND YOU WILL IF YOU PISS ME OFF. If you shoot at twenty people, don't be surprised if you only hit five, and only kill three. RAMBO shootings (Machine guns blazing amid a hail of bullets) will get you killed. Tard rushes will get you killed. I am turning ON the realism, and turning OFF the "Stormtrooper Effect." If you are standing around and someone aims at you, you will get hit. Soldiers rarely miss in real life, so will you, and so will your opponents 6) Anything said outside of a Spoiler Box is considered in Character. Understood? 7) You only get one post per round, which will last approximately one day in real life, as we have people from the East Coast of America, Great Britain, and Australia all playing this RP. Anyone who violates this rule will be banned... User was banned for: Ipod Saves Girl's Life. (Permanent) |

I also know that to be canon, your path would never directly intersect Freeman's, although with Barney and a limited extent Alyx would work. |

Nah its not your fault, like you said, just didn't have enough interest to start with. I might resurrect Det. Shanks later on though.... |

Yeah Det. Shanks was a really good char, I hope to see you RP more in the future |

ok, Ive seen some of this in the forums and it looks like fun. However, I have no clue how to go about this. How do you get set up? What are the details? and mostly, will any one help a newb in this? I at least want to see if this really is something that I find fun or if its not for me.
Any info is appreciated.
