WARNING: This thread is for NERDS ONLY! If you don't get any of the jokes in the Math and Science Jokes! thread, then you obviously don't belong.
This is not a place for some complex math problem. These are word problems. Some amount of math may be involved, but I would prefer as little as possible. Simply solve the riddle of the above poster and then state your own.(Pop culture references are allowed, but discouraged)Here is mine, I'll start with something simple,

Why does the distance from the Earth to the Sun have to be 150,000,000 Km?

Uh, I can play along with this... I have a nerd joke

So, two atoms are at a party, one turns to the other and says "I've gotta split"

And suddenly, the continent of asia implodes!!!

Uh, why have you created a thread that is exactly the same as your old one?

Because you said it was in the wrong place, duh!

ChristmasChild:

Why does the distance from the Earth to the Sun have to be 150,000,000 Km?

Gravitational equilibrium?

The distance between the Earth and Sol varies depending upon the season. Actually it's this fluctuation that causes the seasons.

Earth is closer to our sun during winter, and farthest away during summer. It is the tilt of earth's axis that causes the seasons.

or a different nerd joke: Their are 10 kinds of people in this world those who understand binary and those who don't.

The tilt of the earth is what causes seasons, but the the distance between the sun and earth varying between the seasons is news to me. Have I missed something important?

Why does the distance from the Earth to the Sun have to be 150,000,000 Km?

Becaus thats where the temperature on earth is just right for us to live in. Any closer and we would boil and any further away and we would freeze.

You are an insect sitting in a corner of a 1m^3 cube, you wanna walk to the corner furthest away from you, what is the shorthest distance you have to walk?

err... 2.414m rounded, thats 1.414m the diagonal from one corner to the oposite, and then 1m up from there. since you can't go 1.732m in mid-air, unless its a flying insect.

Wouldn't it be one meter since the corners should be about a meter apart.

No it's 1m^3 = 1m x 1m x 1m, the sides are 1m each. Distance between 2 oposite corners is (using pythagoras) the 'root of' 1m^2 + 1m^2 = 'root of' 2 = 1.414 rounded to 3dp.

Now presuming the insect cannot fly but can crawl up walls, The furthest corner away would one diagonal across a square, then up one edge, which is 1.414m + 1m = 2.414m

If the insect could fly, it would go across the hypotenues of the previous answer so this time it would the 'root of' 1.414^2 + 1^2 = 'root of' 3 = 1.732m.

So there are 2 answers.

your right. what's sad was before my post I looked at the Pythagorean theorem and thought about it for about 2 minutes. (hangs his head in shame)

Given a weight of 10 pounds and a length of 27 inches; how much wood, would a woodchuck chuck, if a wood chuck could in fact chuck wood?

ChristmasChild:
Because you said it was in the wrong place, duh!

You could've asked a mod to move it.

....

.... what?

Darkwolf9:
Given a weight of 10 pounds and a length of 27 inches, how much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a wood chuck could in fact chuck wood?

I would say, assuming the wood is pine, and that the woodchuck is of the North American variety, then I would say 2.879 (repeating, of course) sq. lbs.

Indeed! such a number does sound right.

Actually, the answer is so:

Ok, I have a joke.
Q: How does a particle accelerator make a black hole?
A: Simple. It just writes "1/0".

$50 bucks to the first man or woman that can actually translate this joke from binary to English.

It actually is a real joke by the way, just so you guys know I'm not screwing with you.

Its says:
"The difference between e-mail and regular mail is that computers handle e-mail, and computers never decide to come to work one day and shoot all the other computers."

Doctor, Doctor! I'm feeling ever so ill and tired!

Go and climb on top of you house then.

Will that make me feel better?

No, but it will increase your potential energy!
