Refrence to the movie 300. Since it was 300 Spartens vs about a millon persians.
And even though they lost they still held the Persian army off long enough for the Greeks to rally against the Persians.
I was one of the few people who learned about this battle before 300 came out. Not to imply I read it or anything. Tom Cruise taught me about it in The Last Samurai ^^

I read about it in a history Book. It was actually pretty interesting and showed off just how skillful the Spartans really were in combat.

I like that but the Spartans actually ran from their city, letting it get burned down, then they coyed the Persians to attack them at sea, in a strait no less. where they beat them and ran back to their charred homes and rebuilt, that is the real history if i remember it right. And that happened after the 1300 soldiers held them off(yes 300 Spartans and about 1000 soldiers from Athens held them off) sorry f that is a little detached writing.

No, the Greeks did the strait attack after Leonidas and his volunteers died holding of the Persians.

Actually that would be the Athenians. The Spartan strategy, after Thermopylae, was to build a wall across the Isthmus of Corinth and hold them off there. But an Athenian general called Themistocles managed to trick the Persians into launching an attack, so the Spartans were forced into a fight. And the additional 1,000 troops that stayed behind with the Spartans at Thermopylae were Thespians ;)

Isn't Tom Cruise teaching history one of the signs of the apocalypse?

And I actually got to know about it in the history class when i was about 10-11 years old ;p. What sort of education do you ppl get in your country? :)

I just know about it because.... it's just general knowledge. Behold my vast and historical mind! By the way, who didn't know that Spartans and Athenians were Greeks? Whoever it was, BAD! No biscuit for you!

A really bad one.
300 is not accurate in any way. Just for clarification also its a comic book.
They dont really know what exactly happen but they can logically geuss.
The Spartans were Laconians, not greeks, greeks didnt exist then. (If they did they existed in the way white people all say their white)
Besides which Leonidas was a pussy. Lets get some real heros like Xenophon up in the mix.

Firstly,Laconians are Greek Ancestors,so they are greek, ancient greek that is,as well as mesians, athenians, corinthians etc,Leonidas was a hero, and 300 was not accurate, but yes it did happen, there were 300 spartans and some 500 thebans abd thespians agains 250 000 persians on the third day after a greek peasant told of the passage for a bag of coin. Its not a logical guess, people have books about it,only its been heavily overexadurated for the comic book.
a) If the Laconians are the ancestors of the greeks. That makes greeks laconian, not the other way round. Greek is a ethnic grouping of tribes from a similar region.
b) Leonidas did nothing that any Spartan wouldnt do. How is doing what your meant to do heroic ? Functional maybe, excelling in courage no not really.
c) Yes it did happen I said that They dont really know what exactly happen Ill conceed it should read happened but other than that.
d) Whos figures are you using because the numbers differ from scholar to scholar, Realistic totals (ie from non delusional halfwits) but the number nearer 1500 if not more given the monument only accounts for 700 of the Thespian losses. 400 Thebans are figured to have been present based on averages from living historians estimates of projected crop growth & legitimate population levels in the areas. Exactly 250000 persians ? Thats rather specific. Its also a rather large army realistically to transport and feed. No wonder the Spartans slaughtered them dysentry and sickness musta been rampant.
Bearing in mind Herotodus (who is the source) claimed 5000 greeks stood against the 2000000 perisans. A figure even less likely given population levels at the period. Bearing in mind estimates in 500 BC put the world population at 100 million. 2% of the worlds population by 300 guys with sticks ?
To put this into perspective the 6 years of World War II the population grow from 2.3 billion to 3 billion, with 34 million Allied servicemen (roughly). The largest war on the planet waged by every superpower ever could only muster a puny 1% ? No sorry.
e) Yes the greek peasant, this is the same guy that pulled the bridge pins in Stirling Bridge & presumably shot Harold in the eye with that arrow, & let us not forget shot JFK from the grassy knoll. His name must by Loki cause hes immortal & a helluva troublemaker.
f) Its not exagerrated it happened so long ago no one remembers anything other than fragments of information.
g) Look at William The Welshman, Oh sorry William Wallace, a man whom we know nothing about at all. Other than he was born in Ellerslie (Which one theres two & they are both quite large so thats no use) was a second son, & may or may not have been a mercenary. Oh yeah & he got gutted. Other than those samll fragmentary pieces of data (also know as fact) we know shit all about him and he lived 700 years ago. Themopylae took place nearly 2500 years ago thats before recorded time FFS.
gah I'm having trouble challenging anybody in genre wars. It says there are a ton of people to challenge, but when I click on them, the "CHALLENGE" button is gone.
You can attack people directly when you're in the warzone without having to do it from their profile. Just click on [ATTACK] next to names and you'll be fine.

Few? Loads of us knew, thank you very much. We're not all idiots, you know.
I'm having trouble getting the Spartan badge as no armies in the warzone are worth twice mine and if i do find any I always lose because i lost a unit even though I did more damage to them. Sigh*

I know it has been two years since this came up but.. I am playing Genre Wars and honestly I keep seeing the SAME people on there, which even in red.. I fight but somehow their units are always equaled to my money cost, why? I can't earn Spartan Badge if they always try to equal the matches

Because they're bots. They aren't actual people and they are set up to be evenly matched with you. In short, the only way to earn the badge anymore is to get a friend to do it with ya.

Lol Wut?? Seriously... wow those bots are hard >_> even 50 units each have problems sometimes- *coughs* anyways thank you for letting me know, but speaking of which how do I get a friend to do it with me? Whenever I go on a profile it won't let me challenge them. So how do I challenge a friend or get a friend to fight me? *hoping for answer* ..cause.. I mean, I really want that Spartan Badge XD

Well, first off, they'd have to be in the warzone. Then you challenge them like you would the bot. That's how I did it. Then again, a lot of the best badges have become impossible to earn since Genre wars decline.
