Either RPS, FPS, or Platformer. I do enjoy a good sports game with friends once in a while, however. And welcome to the Escapist. Next time, try using the search button. Threads like this one are created much too often.

Welcome to the Escapist. The search bar is your friend, as far too many glorify.

Anyway, here's my take.

I like shooters for the simple entertainment and excellent multiplayer with friends at parties and such. Some of them are fun to mod, like Halo: CE.

Role-Playing games are good for immersion and longevity. When done correctly, they're as good as any favored book for allowing me to live another, more exciting life.

Probably my favorite genre, though, is Real-Time Strategy. I only play a few games in the genre, but they're good enough for my RTS needs. Age of Empires feel like chess. They're always fun to play with my dad. The Age series has always felt like a sort of "Old Man's Game"; mature, slow, and steady.
I also like Age of Mythology for the, well, mythology. Age of Mythology does well to transfer all the gameplay from the Empires games while adding an interesting and otherworldly twist.
My favorite game in the genre, though, is Starcraft. I won't go into detail; it'll take too long to explain thoroughly. All I have to say is that it's one of the only games I consider to achieve perfection.

Welcome to the Escapist laughinggod. As stated, some threads like this one already have been posted, but that's not a problem for me, a new thread attracts new eyes and new discussions as well as old ones, but you posted it in the wrong forum, this forum is dedicated to the Genre Wars web browser game hosted here at the Escapist and you should have posted in the Gamind Discussion instead.

For me personally, my favorite is Role-playing.

First person shooter, without a doubt. However... why isn't fighting games in the list? Because that's my second favourite genre. XD

It depends what ssort of mood I'm in and how good the game is.
NOT driving or sport, and usually not anything too sandboxy.
RPGs, beat-em-ups and platformers are probably joint top. Shooter get in if they have an interesting feature/gimik or a bit of brain to them.

I am all sorts of delighted that my favourite genre, RPG's, is currently in the lead in the polls.

Though, I have to say, though no genre will ever take the #1 spot away from RPG's in my heart, there'll always be a special spot for platformers. After all, where would be be without the awesome oldskool pwnage that is Mario?

Plus, Little Big Planet kicks arse, so definite props to platformers. :D
