Although I am making a few judgments here, I'd kind of assume that most people would vote perhaps RPGs and FPSs as their favourite genres for the reason that most gamers who are more hardcore than others tend to be into the 'deeper' genres (if you can even call them that). Secondly, most hardcore-ish gamers join forums and communities like this one. Just my own examinations :) Completely objective.

Anyway, of course, my favourite genre is RPG.

Difficult to say, maybe a platform with rpg-elements or the opposite. Adventure is also always a blast as long as thew game's good.

The platformer gamer died inside me when I discovered first person shooters.. :)
Every now and then I go on my SNES and play Super Mario World with my friend, which leads to boredom because I take forever to finish a level apparently. ;)

I'm an all rounder sorta, but I'd have to say old school western RPG's. Things like fallout 1 and 2(not that horribly written pile of putrid mush of a hiking simulator that is Fallout3 thanks a bunch Bethesda Slopworks) Arcanum(anything by troika RIP) and the old Shadowrun games were pretty well executed too I'd say.

JRPGs for the most part have become and I suppose always have been to samey for my tastes, its a cultural thing about repetition that makes them that way from what I'm led to believe.

But I love my Survival Horror and FPS and sandbox games too with just the slightest hint of RTS with more then a dash of TBS. As well as of course ye olde adventure games.

Role Playing or Adventure

Shooters are okay, but not as amazing as people make them out to be. Okay, Half-Life is the exception there.

I feel I evolved when I moved from Platform to RPG, but sometimes, like when I played Zelda: The Twilight Princess, I couldn't help doubt my evolution =[ Particularly when I had to protect the burning cart. That really made me want to kill myself (myself being Link, obvs). To kill dead. Like with a rock or something.

I usted to like RTS's but I now realise how pedestrian and slow they are.
FPS's have shown me the light.

Its difficult to choose, I suppose its a toss up between RTS and RPG, even FPS.

I'm a massive fan of RPGs. I like FPS and RTS games, but I always find that RPGs are so much more engaging and tend to have better stories.

First person shooters for the most part are my favourites, but there's always at least a good game or two in every genre, so it pays to play the field

RPG or RTS.
I prefer RTS for now since it actually requires some thinking in most cases but I do enjoy the in dept stuff for RPG's on occasion.

Somewhere between RPG's and action games, with a little bit of shooter. Mass Effect, Devil May Cry, Ninja Gaiden, Final Fantasy/Kingdom Hearts. Or maybe puzzle adventures. Metroid, Zelda...

I can't choose!

It's very close between RPG, RTS and FPS, but if I had to choose one of them it'd have to be RPG. Very few games provide as much sustained enjoyment as a well-crafted RPG, and the genre has plenty of excellent titles that have given me hundreds of hours of enjoyment (Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3, KotOR, Mass Effect...etc)

ooh, probably FPS. It's Because of these games:

>Left 4 Dead<
>Section 8<
>Half-life 2<
>Team Fortress 2<
>portal< (OH GOD YES, PORTAL!)
>Haze< (don't judge me)
And many more...

There are a lot of good titles IMHO, So I'll stay with FPS.

I think Doug best summarize my thought on the FPS genre.
to pharaphrase him;
"there's nothing like the thrill of hunting people down and killing them"
