I have no idea how to spell the word mosk, so that's how I'm spelling it. all I know is it's an islamic place of worship and there is an appeal to the governor to newyork to build one at ground zero (for those of you who don't know that's whhere the twin towers were destroyed {and also for those of you who don't know it was islamic terrorists who destroyed it [and also also for those of you who don't know, the religeon has NOTHING TO DO WITH IT]}) now, I'm just thinking (just me) that building a mosk there is a REALLY bad idea, and heres why I'm thinking it. if catholic terrorists crashed a plane into the towers and, they built a catholic church on the ruins, (being a catholic myself) I'm almost absolutely sure that the church would be burned down within a year. (if not less) so running into the fact that, here in the US there are many people who are prejudice to anyone who even looks like they're from the middle east, wether or not they'd been living here before the 9/11 attack or wether or not they have a citizenship. I'm just thinking that building a mosk ontop of ground zero is just asking to envoke much more extreme action from the american people against the Islamic people, I'm talking the burning of mosks all over, for the people who can't burn the one in newyork. so I ask you, what are your oppinions on the matter?

/facepalm

Before anyone else beats me to it...sure yeah just one question, what is a Mosk?

Edit: Double Post

There's an extensive thread on this already, which even contain the correct spelling of the word in its title and everything.

no, its insensetive to the victims look there is nothing wrong with building a place of worship

It's a hybrid between a mosque and a mollusk.
I hear they produce very pretty pearls with geometrical and complex patterns.

its actualy spalled as mosque and its a place of worship for islamic people (the islamic version of a church in laymans terms)

Sorry 'bout that.

*puppy eyes*

I only came here to laugh at the spelling "Mosk" tehehehehehe ahahahahahaha.... ok...

It's Mosque! :P and they can build one where they please, but putting one near to a the site of a muslim extremist attack is in bad taste. (Even though I personally belive 9/11 was a plot by the US government to wage war.)

Yeah do not even get me started on the 9-11 conspiracy bullshit, especially not here where it would be off topic.

Good one, but really, my lack of spelling prowess seems to be digressing from the point, my question still stands unanswered. except by Trebort, who was courteous enough to insult my spelling AND answer my question.

The actual main issue with your thread isn't the spelling but the fact that it is redundant, as already pointed out by Imperator_DK and others.

Cenk of "The Young Turks" explains this fully.

THERE NOT BUILDING A MOSQUE ON GROUND ZERO there might build it CLOSE TO IT. They are building it on private property where they have every right to build it.

I am a Muslim and this is my opinion: I think it the Mosque (also known as Masjid) should be built there. BUT it should not just be any Mosque, it should be a somewhat specialized Islamic center that holds seminars (that we can also pray in of course) aimed towards people who have hate towards us such as those who had family/friends die in 9/11 and answer questions to clear up misconceptions about Islam so that maybe we can finally move past all the hate and confusion (even if the change is small). I just fear it will be burned down...like a few other Mosques that I've been to, good thing I don't get out much.

And just for the heck of it...Learn to spell OP! lol, sorry I just had to.

Good idea but I would also recommend addressing the hate inside the Muslim community that led to 9-11. That hatred still exists and all it would take is another large attack to undo all the good you would have done clearing up misconceptions held by others towards Islam.

Well, for that matter, how about the hate that comes from the western side of the spectrum: invasion of Iraq/Afghanistan's effect (dehumanizing the enemy and all that fluffy propaganda stuff), marginalizing Muslims and Islam and Muhammed's Drawing that only reflects the douche as an evil paedophile, wife beating blah blah blah douche and all the other tidbits of blatant hatred and bigotry that still exists proven by the oh so wise stakeholders in the whole "Ground Zero" mosque thingy etc ...

Forgiveness is one noble thing, but it is fruitless if the other camp a.k.a The West doesn't warmly accept it as it is (specially in the advent that particular mosque gets blown up or whatever), then those 'pitiful' Muslims who keep crying about how their religion is peaceful when really they should emphasize more on how alike their way of life is (at least those in America, who technically lives according to a more 'modern' islam ~ live with both the law of the land, and using Islam as a guideline to live a good life like everyone else I guess), or explaining more about why they do it, instead of sounding like a 1 track record with "islam is the religion of peace".

It's funny when some douche on CNN mentions that Christianity is a religion of peace, that Islam is not, and that well, he "loves" Muslim, "hates" Islam, but really only loves Muslim who accept Christ. Sure, not everyone is like him, same applies to the douche who might one day do something stupid at that Mosque/Community Center/Walmart.

And there are Imans who are holding seminars to address said issues you mentioned, but it's a hard tasks when everything else is set to make Muslims men feel like some sort of "wifebeater paedophile" short for evil git in training, and Muslims women as some sort of unsophisticated slave-in-training stuff.

You are exaggerating but yes their is hatred that should be addressed within the Muslim faith and outside the Muslim faith, I never said there wasnt. Still it is far easier for Muslims to convince fellow Muslims to stop hating non-Muslims than it is for Muslims to convince non-Muslims to stop hating Muslims if you see what I mean.

In short get your own house in order before looking beyond it. I would say the same to most Christian denominations as well by the way.

Agreed; shouldn't be too hard a task for Muslims living here in Canada/US I guess.

My choice? No mosque OR ANY RELIGIOUS STRUCTURE OF ANY SORT on G-0. Nearby is more acceptable.

I have no problem with them erecting a mosque, but this Mosk you speak of sounds like a terrible idea.

It's not ON it. It is nearby.

2 Blocks.

Heck, in Manhatten that's acutally quite far away!

It's the shopping mall under G-0 and the (iirc) office block that'll be on G-0 that you should be most outraged at! Unless you count them as "Temples of Captialism" in which case they're kind a religious structure, at least in the US ;)

Me, also being a Muslim, find this a very good idea. Maybe it could be possible to make these seminars more widely heard for the public.

It might also be a good idea to make the mosque fireproof. And maybe and other security measures like metal detectors and stuff if there will be seminars for those who hate Islam.

PS: Oh no I am bumping again. No one else quote me or else it might happen again :( Use the other thread, it is far better.

k, listen, I'm sorry I didn't run through the forums to find out what threads were and were not posted. BUT I am a 19 year old emergency medical technician and I was on an ambulance yesterday with a police officer who (for a long time) worked in newyork and was with us as a paramedic student. she was at the 9/11 event and while at the breakfast table she meantioned that this was going on. I didn't really think it hit the news, or that anyone heard about it, I just thought it was something circulating around the municipalities. (we hear stuff people)

Truthfully I love that idea, but unfortunately I just think that there are too many people in this country who blindly attack things they don't want to understand. I work with people, and I can tell youu I've met dosens who blindly hate every mexican person they see, every indian person they see, (in my area) everyone they see on a bike they want to run over because they demand the roads are for the cars, anytime they have a hard time understanding someone they throw a fit instead of asking them to repeat themselves. people just love to hate. I mean I'm sorry but that's how it is. I've even had people REFUSE to let me treat thier injuries because I am a woman, and a woman should be barefoot in the kitchen and pregnant at all times.

lolwut? It's been all over the news. For some inane reason the American public can't get enough of it and I really wish they would have enough of it so we could move on to the next big OMIGOD SCANDAL which is going to be used to drive the voting base for the 2010 elections, since I doubt this one will last all the way to november.
