Obama caught on open mic suggesting he's confident of 2nd term

Obama was caught on an open microphone on Monday telling Russia's president that he would have more flexibility for a missile deal during his second term, according to reports.

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/obama-caught-open-mic-suggesting-confident-2nd-term-article-1.1050903?localLinksEnabled=false

"On all these issues, but particularly missile defense, this, this can be solved but it's important for him to give me space," Obama told Medvedev, asking him to pass the comments on to incoming Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Medvedev got the political import right away.

"Yeah, I understand," Medvedev said, the mic catching it all. "I understand your message about space."

Obama said he would be in a better position to make a deal once he got through his re-election bid.

"This is my last election. After my election I have more flexibility," Obama said.

Again, the Russian president appeared to understood the politics involved.

"I will transmit this information to Vladimir," he told the president.

SEOUL, South Korea - At the tail end of his 90 minute meeting with Russian President Dmitri Medvedev Monday, President Obama said that he would have "more flexibility" to deal with controversial issues such as missile defense, but incoming Russian President Vladimir Putin needs to give him "space."

Who's Obama working for?

Let's see.."After my relection I'll have more flexibility".... another good reason not to vote for this dangerous man. He ruined the Ballistic Missile Defense and now he wants to give the codes to the Russians. Putin is a trecherous man...

this means lie to the American people like he did last time and then do the exact opposite. He did this before, it was found that his personal response was, "this is politics, its just a 'game'."

I don't see why it'd be bad for him to be confident, it's not like he's running against anyone who's worth a damn.

It doesn't take a psycho-historian to guess that Obama is probably going to win the next election.

As much as we may like to make fun of the inteligence of the masses, I'm pretty sure most Americans can see just how batshit insane the Republicans are.

Yes, this is a bad thing if it's true. Right now US missle defense is a big deal. Right now the US's major power is not just in it's abillities to launch missles but to intercept incoming missles and ICBMs reliably giving us almost inpenetrable defenses and preventing the MAD scenario that kept the world balanced during The Cold War. We demonstrated these weapons on a few occasions, and Russia has been freaking out because it violates all kinds of treaties we had with the now non-existant USSR. Most importantly a US defensive missle base in Poland stole Russia's thunder during the whole Georgia thing (and has Russia threatening to nuke poland) because it was keeping them penned in and make it fairly clear they couldn't fire missles into the EU or accross the EA from Georgia, making their cutting off of the gas (which they did for a while) their only real leverage.

It's not surprising that Russia wants the US to downsize it's anti-missle capabilities, allowing Russia to become more viable offensively. Obama being willing to even consider doing that is... a bad thing. Assuming I'm correct about what this ultimatly comes down to (I think there is more to it than what is being said). Especially seeing as those same capabilities are one of the few things that continues to give us an edge on China's developing military.

Truthfully, I've been of the opinion for a while that the democrats as a party really can't be trusted. One of the big reasons why I was so heavily against Hillary was due to the way how her Husband lost (or sold) a bunch of military technology to China (causing a lot of our current problems), and then how Al Gore was caught accepting financing from the Chinese Goverment that was being fronted through buddhist temples. I didn't vote for Obama, but figured with the "Clintonistas" out of power we wouldn't have to worry about this kind of problem, yet it seems like Obama might very well be working for Russian interests.

My immediate suspicians are that Obama figures he'll sell the country out to win the next election. The "message" being that if he's elected he'll give Russia what it wants, which is an incentive for the Russians to find a way to back him and fill his campaign coffers. Probably figuring that if the USA goes down, he'll at least have had as much power as he could get and probably have his fortunes and those of his children secure as a result.

Come the actual election goes, all of this will be forgotten, assuming Obama hasn't come up with some "reasonable" answer people will believe because his supporters will want to believe it. I'll be very surprised if any mainstream news sources harp on this when it would make a differance.

So fucking what? No president in the history of ever has conducted business as if they weren't going to be re-elected.

KlLLUMINATI:

I don't even know what this is supposed to mean.

I do enjoy your threads KlLLUMINATI, and with so many to choose from I am spoiled for choice.

OT: So what? It was hardly him saying "Yes comrade, my imminent second term will secure Vlad's stranglehold on the world."

Oh dear god.

It is well established the presidents have more political leverage in their second terms than in their first.

I'd also love to know how he "ruined ballistic missile defense," and now you're claiming he wants to give our nuclear codes to the Russians? I know you're not a complete idiot, so there must be some other reason you believe this utter nonsense.

Have we accidentally travelled back to the 1980's/timewarped into an alternate Call Of Duty universe where the Russians are the bad guys intent on nuking everyone just because? Judging by most of the comments so far you'd think we have a missile crisis or something.

I don't think it's a bad thing that they've both agreed to drastically reduce nuclear arsenals, whilst maintaining enough to pose a threat that would ruin anyone's day. And it's certainly no secret that Obama is pretty much set for a second term...the Republican candidates are absolutely insane, with the possible exception of Romney.

If Bush had said these things the democrats would be calling for his head........

No for two reasons.

1. He wouldn't get involved in a conspiracy to make Russia stronger than the US because there's no money in it and besides that, he was already bought and paid for by the US defense contractors.

2. He actually did sign an agreement with Russia to disarm some of our nuclear warheads, reducing both countries to the ability to take out the entire planet only 3 times each instead of 4.

Seriously dude, if you're just fucking with us, it's losing its novelty appeal.

KlLLUMINATI:

He in essence is telling the Russians that his attempt to re-make this country into another USSR is in progress. He is telling Medvedev that he shares more in common with the Russians than they would suspect. Clearly he is all about jacking up domestic spending and shock of shocks his budget cuts are in national defense. With that in mind note these four words BUT PARTICULARLY MISSILE DEFENSE.

He not only PLANS to emasculate this nation, but ASSUMES he has a second term and purposely TELEGRAPHS his intentions to our enemies up front.

What the actual fuck.

One, Obama does not want to remake the US into another Soviet Union. He's not even a fucking socialist!

Two, of course most of his budget cuts are in defense. Do you know how much the US spends on defense? We're the top military spenders in the world, yes, but it's by a HUGE margin. Our defense budget is larger than the next top twenty countries combined. In the middle of a debt crisis, why the fuck wouldn't you cut that excess?

Three, Russia is not our enemy. The Cold War is over, bucko.

Four (and this is the most important one), no US president has ever tried to purposely sabotage the country. Bush Jr. almost did, but it wasn't intentional. He was just an idiot. Now Obama makes some offhand comment about reducing the nuclear arsenal (a policy that's been in place for quite a while) and how it's better for him politically to wait until his second term (which is the smart political move) and you start saying he's out to drive us into the ground? Give me a fucking break.

I'd like to be the one to say it's his last election because after that he'll appoint himself emperor and half the country will say "meh, better than the Republicans."

Damn it, he's CONFIDENT! Is there ANYTHING this monster won't stoop to!? Outrageous! Rabble rabble rabble!

True, he'd be top busy focusing on a case in Florida that is undeserving of his attention.

Isn't co-operation between nations and finding peaceful solutions to problems supposed to be a good thing?

What's the alternative? Threaten Russia more? Aren't the Russians entitled to feel safe too? And what will Moscow do if pressured?

Or aren't the Russian entitled to feel safe?

I'm not making up anything, he's the president and he should had kept such comments that are heavily biased to himself. There are a number of issues that he has to deal with, and he chose to make a biased comment on a on going case. It reminds me of the last time he did that.

This entire poorly reasoned conclusion reminds me of that old episode of The Simpsons where Russia turns back into the Soviet Union.

That's sheer nonsense. What was so "biased" about his comments?

http://www.miamiherald.com/2012/03/23/2709583/president-trayvon-case-a-tragedy.html

WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama spoke out Friday on the Trayvon Martin shooting for the first time, calling the incident a "tragedy" and invoking his own children.

"I can only imagine what these parents are going through," the president said, adding that he couldn't help but think about his daughters. "I think every parent in America should be able to understand why it is absolutely imperative that we investigate every aspect of this.

"My main message is to the parents of Trayvon Martin," he added. "If I had a son, he'd look like Trayvon. I think they are right to expect that all of us as Americans are going to take this with the seriousness it deserves and we're going to get to the bottom of exactly what happened."

The president said he was pleased to hear that Florida Gov. Rick Scott has appointed a task force to look into the incident.

"I think all of us have to do some soul searching to figure out how does something like this happen,"

Noting that his attorney general is looking into the case, the president prefaced his remarks by saying it was important he was not "impairing any investigation that's taking place right now."

What a monster. He said nothing about Zimmerman, nothing about the particulars of the case other than that Trayvon Martin is dead. And that was it. He has since said nothing about the case.

He referred to the incident as a "tragedy." Is this inaccurate somehow?

It's now somehow untoward for the President of the United States to comment on an incident that has the whole country talking? Give me a fucking break.

Tyler Perry:

For the president to make a comment that clearly favors the Martins family was biased. He made no comments for the wife of Zimmerman, just comments in favor of the Martins family. Seeing as he is heavily associated with the government and by extension the law, he should have made a neutral comment or no comment at all. Until the case is over, he should remember that people are innocent until proven guilty, and as such, comments in favor of either party should be discouraged prior to a trail is finished.

Zimmerman's wife (if he even has one) didn't lose a loved one. Obama was speaking as a parent, empathizing with a couple who lost their children, while stressing that due process should take its course.

What an asshole.
