Today I felt like informing everyone that today at sundown is Nisan 14 on the Jewish calander. This day also marks the day of the last supper of Jesus before his death. I'd like to invite people to his memorial tonight at any Jehovah Witness Kingdom Hall. All are welcome to attend this is the only thing the JW's celbrate and it is a very tasteful short meeting in which we talk about Jesus and what he did and why it is important. This is not a sermon like you would see on TV this all very professinal with two prayers two songs and then a short talk given by a brother. We explain why it is soo important to continue doing this tradition and then we pass the bread and wine amongst each other (not to eat and drink its symbolic and it is all explained in the program) We invite anyone who wishes to attend because this is a very special day for us and we wish to share it with everyone. If you dont have the same beliefs as we do or you think that JW's are a crazy people this is a perfect chance to come and enjoy example of what we actually are. There are no requirements to come to fees and we dont pass a donation plate around. You can go and leave without being bothered. I think alot of people will enjoy the program if not just for the experience of meeting a new group of people in a place that you wouldnt normally go. Thank you all in escapist with putting up with me and giving some really excellent threads on a myriad of subjects. I love this site and all the people who post. P.S. Yes to you guys who I've had debates with too its always good to get new prespectives from you guys

What a round about way to talk down on other churches.......

This is the way to showcase your religion, short and simple. No requirements, no obligations, if you don't like it you can leave and nobody will bother you. Only requirement is a shred of respect. There are no Jehovas witness churches where I live, but if there was I would consider going.
Atrocious Joystick: if you don't like it you can leave and nobody will bother you.
Not true. One of my lecturers is a former Jehovah's witness, and he had to leave Denmark because of how horrible they were to him over it. Even his family doesn't want to see him anymore because he left their cult. Some may remember from other topics my history with the Reformist church isn't exactly without incident, but what he told me made me go 'so I didn't have it too bad at the time'.
Not to mention Jehovah's Witnesses have almost predatory recruiting tactics. To name one example, they target close relatives of the relatively deceased. If you publish a memorial in the newspaper that your parents or partner they died, you can sometimes expect a conversion attempt.
Rule of the thumb: the more 'true to the teachings' a denomination is, the more evil it is and the more problems it will cause.

so do you have a source for this or are you just making shit up to support your views and try to garner support for your "team".
KlLLUMINATI: What a round about way to talk down on other churches.......
Yes, and you stating the Bible as objective fact doesn't do that at all -_- I really don't see a problem with what the OP said or how it's talking down on other religions. Care to explain?

Not sure if personal experience means anything, but my uncle (by marriage) was from a Jehovah's Witness family. He hasn't seen his parents in many years because they disowned him when he left the church. More tellingly, he doesn't seem to care about not knowing them.
I'm not saying that all Jehovah's Witnesses are like that (from personal experience I know that isn't true), but there is a tendency in that particular church to see things very much in black and white, which can lead to a greater incidence of... friction with regular society.
This is a very rational post I must say, well done sir. You state your case without it being spammy, annoying or demanding. While I may disagree with your views, I applaud you for advertising them maturely.
There are not really that many JW followers around here (South Africa, the Third-World-Topia) come to think of it.

First of all my Grandmother is a JW and been there numerous times so I do know how they work.
"You can go and leave without being bothered" implying that you would be bothered......... "There are no requirements to come to fees and we dont pass a donation plate around." implying that you are "required" to pay "fees" or "donation" at another church
Now what the cult will not tell you is all the rules until they have you. Like high commitment of time and/or finances. Members are told how and where to live. Food, drink, dress, and/or hairstyles are dictated if you want a beard you cant have one.
My biggest problem is how they treat their followers. JW shun members which can result in serious emotional side affects. Disfellowshipping is extended to prevent immediate family members associating with their disfellowshipped relatives. With these punishments over their heads they do everything they are told I mean everything.
It is not the people it is the religion that is flawed.
KlLLUMINATI: "You can go and leave without being bothered" implying that you would be bothered.........
Pretty sure that implies you won't be bothered.
KlLLUMINATI: "There are no requirements to come to fees and we dont pass a donation plate around." implying that you are "required" to pay "fees" or "donation" at another church
Again no it doesn't. That just says you won't have to here. It doesn't say or infer anything about other churches. And if it did is that a wrong assumption? Are you saying no Churches do that?
KlLLUMINATI: Now what the cult will not tell you is all the rules until they have you. Like high commitment of time and/or finances. Members are told how and where to live. Food, drink, dress, and/or hairstyles are dictated if you want a beard you cant have one.
Oh I see and Jehovah's Witnesses are the only Christian group that have rules like that aren't they? -_- And how would you like it if I started calling your denomination of Christianity a cult? I bet you'd be offended, right? So why is it ok for you to do it to JWs?
KlLLUMINATI: My biggest problem is how they treat their followers. JW shun members which can result in serious emotional side affects. Yes all of them do this. Every single JW treats people this way! [/sarcasm]

Cool. I used to be catholic, I know how they work...see how dumb that sounds? If OP intended those as implications, it doesn't particularly bother me because I know that it does happen. It might not happen at every single church, or any church you've ever attended, but it does happen.
KlLLUMINATI: "You can go and leave without being bothered" implying that you would be bothered.........
Don't know what glorious church you went/go to, but whenever someone left/tried to leave the church (that I went to as a child) early they were stared at by pretty much everyone. Made easier by the fact the priest stopped speaking.
KlLLUMINATI: "There are no requirements to come to fees and we dont pass a donation plate around." implying that you are "required" to pay "fees" or "donation" at another church
If you didn't put anything in the plate people call you cheap and "not a good catholic".
KlLLUMINATI: Now what the cult will not tell you is all the rules until they have you. Like high commitment of time and/or finances. Members are told how and where to live. Food, drink, dress, and/or hairstyles are dictated if you want a beard you cant have one.
Can't comment on that because I don't know.
KlLLUMINATI: My biggest problem is how they treat their followers. JW shun members which can result in serious emotional side affects.
Yes, like I and many other young Catholics at my church were shunned for not hating gay people, one who was gay. I'd wager he was pretty devastated that the church and God he was told to believe in hated him because he was gay.
KlLLUMINATI: Disfellowshipping is extended to prevent immediate family members associating with their disfellowshipped relatives. With these punishments over their heads they do everything they are told I mean everything.
I'm pretty sure people have been disowned by religious family members and shunned by fellow church goers for reasons like receiving an abortion, being gay or using medicine instead of the power of prayer. So...
Anyway on the dis-fellowship thing, I was pretty sure I knew what it was but I checked on Google what the definition anyway to be safe, and what I got was this.
(in some Protestant religions) the status of a member who, because of some serious infraction of church policy, has been denied the church's sacraments and any post of responsibility and is officially shunned by other members.
Yet another quick Google search shows that a lot of people seem to think *serious infraction of church policy* is parseltongue for *anything the elders don't like*.
So no comment on dis-fellowship for now.
KlLLUMINATI: It is not the people it is the religion that is flawed.
To me, this statement could apply to most religions.
Endersgate1321: Today I felt like informing everyone that today at sundown is Nisan 14 on the Jewish calander. This day also marks the day of the last supper of Jesus before his death.
So close and yet so far. His last supper was a passover sedar. That means it would have been held after sundown on the 14th, which would actually be the 15th. It would not have happened today. Nice try though, that's closer than most Christians get to the date.
We explain why it is soo important to continue doing this tradition and then we pass the bread and wine amongst each other (not to eat and drink its symbolic and it is all explained in the program)
I hope by "bread" you actually mean UNLEAVENED bread. Jesus would be very upset to find that this, one of the most important laws ever given, was being broken.

Also I can't take JW serious because of how they mispronounce Hashem's real name(not that people should go around carelessly saying that name).

Yet you insulted the people? Kay
*"Oh I see and Jehovah's Witnesses are the only Christian group that have rules like that aren't they?"* The Bible is seen as an insufficient guide for truth. The members are told to use the cult's literature for the proper understanding of God's truth. Yes they are. Doubt and criticism of the group or leaders are disallowed. They often claim that "independent thinking" is evidence of "pride," and is seen as questioning God and His arrangement for life.
*"Yes all of them do this. Every single JW treats people this way!"* yes they do they equate loyalty to the group as loyalty to God so if you break the "rules" you are not loyal to God.....
*"Yet you insulted the people? Kay"* No the religion requires them to do these things A member's character and identity is reshaped to comply within the rigid contours of the religion. My uncle shot himself because he was shunned from the group and told he could not see or speak to his friends and family ever again.
Before you make statements you should know what you speak of.

I agree but the thing is they have rules and if you break them you are no longer allowed back. Most churches have a system of morals but their systems are set up to help individuals with problems. JW claim that Disfellowshipping is a loving act it is their most important control mechanism. It allows the Watchtower Bible to control its members with guilt and fear. They are taught that they must turn each other in for any rule violation. If they observe another JW breaking a rule and do not report him or her to the "elders".
KlLLUMINATI: *"Oh I see and Jehovah's Witnesses are the only Christian group that have rules like that aren't they?"* The Bible is seen as an insufficient guide for truth. No it isn't. Every Christian denomination has rules like that. What you can eat, what you can wear, who you can have sex with. Having stupid rules isn't exclusive to Jehovah's Witnesses. Stop calling them a cult. Just because you don't agree with them doesn't mean they're a cult.
KlLLUMINATI: *"Yes all of them do this. Every single JW treats people this way!"* yes they do they equate loyalty to the group as loyalty to God so if you break the "rules" you are not loyal to God.....

There is no restriction on what we wear unless you are nun or priest. There no rule on sex unless its gay.
Do you even know what makes a cult? Cults like JW use the Bible to support its position by taking verses out of context and altering the Bibles text to suit their needs.
**"Sweeping generalisations much? Have you met every single Jehovah's witness on Earth? No you haven't stop assuming they all behave a certain way."**
I do not have to it is in their cult doctrine.

Like I said you clearly have no idea what you speak of do not comment
And depending on which subset of Christians you look at, the same accusation of cultish behaviour could be levelled at them also. (It'd stick, too)
I agree there are plenty of them look at Jim Jones,David Caresh(probably misspelled)Waco,TX,hale bopp comet cult to name a few but my point is JW is a cult as well. It is not the people it is the religion as a whole.
KlLLUMINATI: Do you even know what makes a cult? Cults like JW use the Bible to support its position by taking verses out of context and altering the Bibles text to suit their needs.
And no other Christian has ever done that ever, amirite?
KlLLUMINATI: I do not have to it is in their cult doctrine.
If you want to make assumptions about every single member then you kinda do, otherwise it's just fallacious reasoning.
So what? Every religion on Earth has stupid rules including yours, so stop with this 'they're just a cult' business. What makes you think you're 100% right and they're not. Because I tell you what mate, I can lobby the same criticisms right back at your religion so don't go there. You've completely missed the point of what I was saying. I don't care if you don't like what the religion teaches, I don't like it either, but there's no need to just dismiss it as a cult and make out like everyone who follows it is a complete nutjob.

I said clearly it is not the people it is the religion so I am not dismissing them as "nutjobs" it is the messed up rules they have which by definition makes them a cult. And yes I know there is no perfect religion but when a member of your group that supports you is down and you kick them you lose all respect. I do not argree with Islam but they are not a cult so do not act like because I do not agree with them is why I am saying that it is a cult.

Well then stop making assumptions about every single member then. There are almost 8 million JW's; not all of them will do what you say they do.
Hey me again sorry havent had a chance to read all the comments till now. By the way it was a great service last night I had lots of fun with friends and family. So now to address some questions I've read The bread was unleaven since in the bible yeast was a symbolic ingreadent of sin. Jews were allowed to eat yeast just not on the passover. I really enjoyed reading all the comments. I would like to clear a few misunderstandings up. Just to clarify things for people who dont know us very well. When you get disfellowshiped you are allowed back when you are done doing the things that were wrong. Which by the way have to be severe like adultry, serious crimes, drug and alcholol abuse, and abusing any position given to you. We chose not to vote because we feel religion and politics should never be together and we dont join the military not out of disrespect but because we dont want fight our fellow bothers around the world. We dont see one government as better than the other. We can have friends outside the JW's. Oh and we can wear blue jeans and stuff in the Kingdom Halls just not during services we need to look apporiate and respectful in a place of worship. Oh and the one comment about us using our litature over the bible. I have to disagree with that comment because the bible is our princeple refernce in all matters our litature is mainly used to break down the bible in smaller incraments like a workbook you would get from school.
Endersgate1321: Today I felt like informing everyone that today at sundown is Nisan 14 on the Jewish calander. This day also marks the day of the last supper of Jesus before his death. P.S. Yes to you guys who I've had debates with too its always good to get new prespectives from you guys
thank you for the invite. while im not JW and i dont have their beliefs ive always found them to be remarkably friendly and honest people.
keiskay: so do you have a source for this or are you just making shit up to support your views and try to garner support for your "team".
If you'd read my post, you'd have seen that.
As for the rest, visit wikipedia. All on there.
a post from a member with a bias against religion is gonna lead me to question it very thoroughly, maybe if it was skeleton who made a post like that i wouldnt question it as much. but you are not skeleton, and you failed to provide any actual sources other then your own opinion so i am not gonna consider your opinion as a valid fact. .
Like I said you clearly have no idea what you speak of do not comment

well technically all religions are a cult, so explain to me why your church branch should be treated any differently?
