This stuff just upsets me. THE UNITED STATES of America is a Constitutional Federal Republic. NOT A DEMOCRACY!!! It really irritates me every time someone calls it a democracy!!!!

Yeah it can get annoying especially when it's the people that are "Go Amurica" yet they don't understand how we work. By the way, I love the name.

Exactly. And thank you! You're making me blush!

We vote for the people to represent us and the rich "hire" them.

At least, that's my two cents.

Also you may want a bit more content in your first post, something to encourage debate.

All citizens can vote, not just wealthy landowners so its closer to a Democracy though its actually a Representative Democracy since the people vote for representatives instead of voting directly on every issue.

The problem is the majority of voters, democratic and republican alike and included with moderates, don't feel their vote matters as much as the wealthy throwing money into lobbyists and campaigns and news media outlets.

Without taking a 'side' or trying to turn this into a left vs. right argument, there are plenty of people that feel like voting for president or congress is like picking your middle school class president. Yes, you can 'choose' freely, but all the decisions he or she 'makes' goes through the board of education and the principles and teachers who actually make the decisions.

Well, don't they get their power from influencing votes, though? You could as well argue that the problem is the masses of voters willing to be swayed by such things.

Of course, once representatives are chosen, then there's ways they can be influenced, though.

It's much more systematic than just that. Between first passed the goal voting, electoral colleges, ensuring that we'll never have more than two parties (nay making it beneficial to only have two), companies and money (ie bribes and kickbacks) being seen as people with protected free speech rights, and insane troll logic or just outright lies ("not intended to be a factual statement", hiding behind a paper thin pundit wall, hiring fake "experts" on matters they have no expertise in, decrying actual experts as eggheaded elitist fakes, etc) being passed off falsely as geniune news as protected free speech, when it should be treated more like snake oil sales (ie, false advertising bullshit that it is), it's really a wonder there's as much democracy vs plutocracy as it is. Ignoring entirely candidates changing or being influenced after election.

They don't have to change voters much just give them nothing to vote for and hope they don't show up. If that fails make it harder for them to vote.
