The argument against what, exactly? The bill? This woman's 'privilege' is irrelevant to whether the bill should be law.

The comment was made in regard to the ignorance of her remarks. The law says that the voucher system does not apply exclusively to Christian schools. She made a statement that this bill, which she presumably voted on, was not Christian-exclusive, and that upsets her. That she doesn't want money going to religious schools that aren't Christian. That is a demonstration of privilege. Consequently, it's not an ad hominem. Ad hominem would be, "She's only saying that because she's a bitch."

It's all fine and well to be amused by this level of ignorance and hypocrisy, but it's still fucking terrifying that this is real life, that shit like this is actually being passed in this country.

As religion declines in this country (and it is declining), religious extremism is on the rise.

It's a demonstration of bias, not privilege.

I think you need to reread what this entire thread is about, because it's definitely not about the bill.

Ah, and here I thought this thread was about something substantive rather than singling out a particularly transparent theocrat.

Oh lord, and people say Georgia is bad. I am not surprised that she thinks that, there are definitely stupider things thought by more powerful people; but to say it OUT LOUD??? I can't believe she actually thought that would be okay.

Gah... This hurts... that there really are people in this country democratically elected by a majority that think like this.

Seanchaidh:

Privilege is one of many places where bias can come from. Mind you, she presumably voted on this bill, which means she had to have read it at some point. That means she read it and just assumed that only Christian schools would benefit because that is "the religion of the Found Fathers."

That's somewhat tenuous. The assumption that Christianity would be the only religion that would benefit is false. The relevant privilege was actually not present, unless unpacking her invisible knapsack revealed "able to be completely mistaken about legislation she voted for."

Luke Gomez:

On a sidenote, I wonder if this bigoted woman holds a similar opinion about Hebrew schools or any sort of "New Age" type.

Alright, new plan, we make a norse pagan school. It will, preferably, be shaped like a giant mead hall. The school's national anthem will be the main theme from Skyrim, and instead of water fountains there will be fountains of sweet, delicious mead. :3

Anyways, back on topic, I thought there was evidence enough that the GOP means "Freedom to preach Christianity alone" when they go on and on about "Religious Freedom". After all, the term "Religious Freedom" only comes up when involving Christian teachings or the bible in schools.

It disturbs me how people act like Islam is a single minded religion with only one interpretation. It's just another religion with dozens of interpretations, but unlike Christianity the subdivisions aren't named.

Shia
Sunni
Sufi
Wahhabi
Druze

Actually, Druze is a seperate religion entirely, that originated from Islam, but is not an Islamic school of thought. Calling Druze a Modern Muslim Sect would be like saying Christianity is a Modern Jewish Sect.

OT: The woman is stupid, but obviosly, I think Mr. Jindal knew that it would accept all religious schools, not just Christian ones. Heck, he was raised a Hindu, so obviously he would know about other religions. While I highly doubt Jindal is a bigot based on Religion, the woman clearly needs to get voted out of office.
