Switching Lithium Batteries?

So I'm swapping out the battery of my Pokemon Yellow cartridge and I see that it uses a c1616 battery. That has a pretty low capacity (50mAh), even compared to other gameboy cartridges. I saw on this guide

That he swapped his c2025 for a c2032, which took up slightly more space but still works. Would I be able to do something similar here?

That seems inherently risky. Though, I would ask on that forum there to see if anyone can offer any insight on doing this. Since that thread is pretty old. The only experience I have had with these kinds of batteries is on motherboards. :/
