"Nova Guynae" , A futuristic Space war of Independence (Open/Not Started)

 Pages 1 2 NEXT

In this RP you will play as a revolutionary that had failed in their attempt to topple their country's regime and is currently hunted down by his own government. You choose freedom as you are enlisted to help French colonialists shake the oppression of their Government in Nova Guynae, a piece of land on a planet similar to earth a few hundred light years away.

There is the summary, don't judge me too harshly:

"Liberte,egalite,fraternite"

A few hundred light years away from earth revolves a planet with habitable conditions. First discovered by the People's Republic of China, it was then first colonized by the French. Setting up their dominance, they took it upon themselves to explore that barren land and carve a new home for the nation of France. After seven earth decades of mapping the lands, setting up colonies and cataloguing the local flora and wildlife, the French had declared the colonies as an official part of France and set up borders to reflect their sovereignty on that land. Nova Guynae was bordered by territories claimed by the People's Republic of china and other unsettled territories. These were being explored by the world's five leading super-powers capable of sending colonists to the planet: Brazil, the UK, The Korea, Russia and Israel-Jordan.

As the years went by, France demanded more and more of the local goods -
*a hardened fluid extracted from a local plant became very popular with the French, being smoked and eaten; it contained substances never seen before on earth which caused the human mind to go into an ecstasy of joy.
*Furs of the local animals became the primary material used to make luxury clothes in France as the alien furs served as a status symbol.
*New kinds of undiscovered metals now used in the heavy industry of France were exported daily to sustain the ever growing market of these new products that far exceeded its predecessors.
*The native population, a reptilian semi-conscious bipedal race became the greatest discovery of France during the exploration of the planet, as they began to examine it and produce medical information from specimens brought back to the University of Paris. They were sometimes used as forced labor in the fields of the colonists.
But as the demand for the foreign goods in the mainland increased, the burden of import taxes increased on the materials coming from France which were could have been rather elementary in the colonies, only if the French government hadn't prohibit such industries to exist on Nova Guynae in the first place.

After three decades of such oppression, the locals had had enough with their earthen overlords. A local resistance group to the now French military occupation of the colonies had invited great men and women from earth with promises of true freedom to lead the struggle. People that had lead a struggle against their oppressors, whether it may be the Anarcho-Communists of Spain, The Socialists of the United States of America, the African Warlords fighting for the independence of their tribe, the Chinese democrats fighting against their oppressive government, the libertarian Germans fighting against their Socialist Country or the Moroccan revolutionists fighting for their independence from their King controlled by foreign powers or other specialists.

Who will you be? Will you lead your new people to a new land of freedom, equality and brotherhood?

This is subject to change as I receive more sheets.
Fell free to ask questions!

Example sheet:

This seems very interesting, it seems like your trying to go for a colonial 1600's-1700's type thing just set in the future. Expect a sheet from me in the next day or two.

I'm happy to hear you're interested, and yes, you pretty much nailed it. Expect to see plenty of allusions with the local goods, high tax and strange natives, all the while engulfed in Tesla Cannons and awesomeness.
What Nationality/Ideology/Defining_Skill Did you have in mind?

This seems pretty interesting... Interesting setting with plenty of room for great stories!

How will this be played? Online or...?

Quick question.

If we actually use our time and effort to create a character sheet, will we be told if we've been accepted or not?

You're still in limbo because me and my Co-GM are considering your entrance. It depends on player amount and how to inject you in the plot, plus your character needs some polish. We're currently trying to integrate the ones that were already accepted. If we fail with them, you can come up, but for now you are, like I mentioned earlier, in Limbo.

Then she's more of a nationalist than a revolutionary, but who's keeping score?
What happened between her working for the IRA and deciding to go to Nova Guynae? It makes little sense that she worked against the government and then just left for the stars with no other reason. Try and add a few of her key traits in the personality segment you forgot.
Cheers.

You do realize that since this isn't an anime, having only one working eye means that you have shit depth perception and can't be a sharpshooter ?
Ok. If we ignore the obvious mistakes and contradictions in your bio, you're a bit misguided. There aren't that many oppressed people in Australia. Australia had been absorbed back into the UK as it was a part of the commonwealth. Great terra-forming and settling efforts were put in making Australia hospitable and offer room for the millions of British refugees. Australia accepted its re-entry to the UK, as it was in an economical crisis and the UK was its only way out. They had been a part of the UK for over four decades now. New Zealand on the other hand didn't really agree to being absorbed back into the UK, but nobody really cared as they flattened most of its landscape to make more room for urbanization. Papua New Guinea accepted as well, so did Belize and the Bahamas and the Caribbean isles. Canada rejected British rule and managed to scare them off with their high tech army and cyber-warfare units.
So here's the story of the commonwealth.
Also, re-do your bio, it has many plot holes in it.

This is not what I asked for, but it's really, really good so I'll let it slide.
The French and Chinese areas of the new planet are already semi-urbanized while the other areas are just being explored, mapped and colonized, like the British area. You could have been contracted by the French revolutionists group for attacks on French outposts in the wilderness or in the border away from the Urban centers. The thing here with the bow and arrows really ticks me off as we don't even know if there is wood that can be used fir building a bow and arrow. Perhaps you should change that a bit to something else, maybe if you work for the revolutionists you receive ammunition and other supplies while you go around the wilderness and hunt animals.
Any contact with the natives?

Athol:

.
Now, I'm reading this and I'm thinking this looks just right, but when you try and apply it to the situation - a rouge agent that has no loyalties whatsoever is an asset that you can't control. At least the Irish Nationalist wants to end the tyranny of the French, but you have no ideology or reason to be in this brave new world. Think about it!
Besides that, a good character, but I don't understand why in the name of sin would he be highly proficient in hand to hand combat and firearms. Have you ever seen a tech unit in the military? They sit on their asses day and night and update the servers and code. After their service their combat abilities are so eroded they preform worse than they did when they got there untrained.

No problems! I think I imagined the setting a bit differently than I should have, like not considering the level of technology that exists, or even what sort of geography, flora and fauna there are. I should have asked you first before filling in the blanks myself.

If I have understood you correctly these are the aspects you have issues with:

- His bond with the revolutionaries is too flimsy. You would like him to have a bigger investment in the cause?

I totally understand this. I just have to find one that fits the man I see in my head. You see, he can survive just fine on his own so there really isnŽt that much the revolutionaries have that Map wants.
How about this: After being gone almost a whole summer Map returns to find his home, the only fixed position in his life, taken over by frenchmen. For whatever reason the french has claimed the land for themselves (might be a part of some trade agreement between the french and the british governments) and they arrested (or killed) Maps uncles when they tried to fight back. Angry and determined to re-take his land Map joins the revolution to fight the french. He is still very much an outsider and cannot stand to stay indoors for too long but he keeps himself close and takes pride in leading attack teams undiscovered to their targets and safely back home.

- The caveman weaponry.

I donŽt rightly know why I went there. I guess I just couldnŽt see him maintaining a firearm for so long without any contact with civilization. Besides I just assumed that the weapon tech in this setting was loud, noisy and dirty for some reason, and I just think that Map would prefer something easily maintained and quiet. But again this is something I should have discussed with you first. Anyway, I have no problem with changing this. However I still feel that a thermo-scoped, armour-piercing 50. cal crashes somewhat with the characters personality so I think we need to find a happy compromise. How about a more modern model crossbow? I can easily see him carrying something like this: lightweight, quiet, brings down pretty much anything up too and including a large horse. Equipped with a simple scope for increased deathlyness. Maybe a small winch could be attached to help with traversing chasms and cliffs, Batman style. The possibility of making or modifying ammo in a pinch. Would this be acceptable?

If not, could you give me a quick rundown of what the weapon technology is like in this setting, so i can choose an appropriate hunting tool.

- The natives.

I didnŽt want to delve too far into this since I had very little information to go on. It stands to reason that there would exist some form of relationship between Map and the natives, but given Maps personality no more than knowing of each other and maybe the odd trade here and there (if the natives understands trade?). Other than that I imagine they pretty much leave each other alone. This is assuming the natives are friendly. If not then Map would know enough about them to be able to avoid them.

I hope these changes makes the character more what you were looking for.
Let me know if there are any other changes you need me to do.

Redryhno:
I'll toss my hat in the ring, sounds like fun.

.
You can't be accused of treason ten times. The rest is just plain silly if you look at the numbers. I would love to have a metallurgy and physics scientist with knowledge of making explosives, but what I hate about this is that you are a mercenary with no agenda and that right now there is no Israel - There's Israel-Jordan.
Want me to elaborate? Alright.
After the Jordanians upended their king, a liberal majority Islamic parliament, the first of its kind was assembled in Jordan. After two years of negotiations, THe Palestinian problem was solved as some territories were absorbed into Israel and the PLO disassembled. The newly formed state of Palestine was under the mandate of Jordan and any illegal activities there would be the fault of the Jordanian government's incompetence. The economical, military and strangely cultural aspects of the two nations began to overlap as the bond between them deepened. Over the years they opened the border between the two states - Israelis could visit Jordan without a visa, and vice versa. Over the length of eleven decades the two ocuntries defended themselves from the invading armies of their hostile neighbors three times, and laws declaring the study of both languages in schools mandatory, so did it in its branches of government, security, etc.
Arabic became a second language for every Israeli child as much as Hebrew became a second language for every Jordanian child. The two nations came close to a union and they finally signed an agreement where they would merge both of their countries together into one, allowing both Jews and Jordanians to enter the country and live there.
So... Yeah. You have that. Being a Boxer, A scientist and a mercenary? Might be too much, but are you just being functional (hand to hand combat) for the sake of being functional?

It would make this a whole lot easier if people actually knew where they could be from, because from what i've seen, besides me, there's been another couple of people you've gotten onto for being from a country that doesn't exist anymore and I don't see any of it in your opening post, beyond what I can only interpret as examples of where you could be from, not a clearly defined list.

Now, fine, I'll concede the treason part, but really the rest of the number really aren't that implausible, seeing as how an act of terrorism can be something as simple as just threatening to blow up a building and being found out. A murder of a govt. official, a bomb goes off in a govt. building, which also constitutes govt. property destroyed. explosive materials? do i really have to explain that? arms dealer gets caught with money from his account, yada yada, not to mention this guy's been bombing for ten years or so, and considering he really only spent more than a year on his first bombing. the rest took place over a period of 2-4 months. If you're connected enough you can get what you need to get a bombing done, which he is, not to mention if he can predict how one building will fall onto another, which he can, and he also wants to be found out, so he makes it known when he's blown up a building. Now if you want me to make him a little older, fine, works for me.

Yes, I did the boxing thing for fun, besides the fact that probably anyone who's been doing what he does for any length of time is going to have been in a few brawls, and sorry, but the martial arts thing that alot of people go into takes years to become proficient enough in it, so I thought it'd be simpler if he boxing experience, and anyone that has been in his business is going to come across some deals that went bad, so he's going to know how to handle a gun, mind you, it's verry little, but it's enough to keep him alive if he needs it. And then there's the fact that you don't like him because he was a mercenary, yes, he's a merc, but didn't you see the little thing that says he likes to blow things up? He could just be there for the challenge of new territory, or just for the hell of it, there's a few other ways it could be done as well, not everyone has to have some high-minded reason for being a revolutionary. And how the hell did the Jordans and Israelis get to be such great buddies? Fine, they dethroned their king, they've been fighting each other without kings for the last thousand years, chances are they're not going to just stop because their political leader is gone.

Your correction to his reason for staying with the rebels works well, good job.
A crossbow can be done, yes. Now, I wouldn't say there are laser weapons, but there are Tesla cannons of various sizes and shapes, most of them are large and can only be mounted on a fortified vehicle, while others are shaped like a long barreled rifle. A Tesla cannon is a cannon which releases small pellets of iron at tremendous speeds. It's based on the idea of the Tesla Coil where a magnet is taken and spun around itself so that the magnetized items in it will gain velocity and leave the barrel at staggering speeds, some breaking mach 5 easily.
But if you were using such a weapon it would only be so powerful so your arm won't rip off from the recoil. On the other hand you always have gun powder!
.
Natives seem to be semi-conscious. They communicate among each other but can't have direct contact with humans. They are bi-pedal reptilians and a portion of it is used a slave labor in the French colonies. You could have traded with them or only encountered them, you might have also hunted them. Just set the tone for your relationship. If you don't know what to write, just say that you're neutral to them.

He's going to have to have gotten inside somehow to get to key structure points. but if you feel that him knowing ways to get around some security is too much, fine, I'll take it off.

That was just what I thought of off the top of my head, I also put he can forge decent, not good, but enough to fool a cursory check on the way into a building. It's just a way to get through the doors more than anything. The disguise thing is just a means to an end.
