In as well words as possible- Let's try and create as deep a fantasy universe as we can as a community. I'll be providing the most basic template in the form of a creation story and simple geography set up and then we can start.
I'll welcome contribution from anyone providing it's interesting and doesn't conflict what's already been accepted. I'm trying to avoid being to standard or clichéd it doesn't mean that more standard ideas well done won't be accepted anything done well can make it in but I won't deny my bias for more original ideas. Contributions can take numerous forms pretty much anything that adds depth to the universe, whether they are locations, characters, events in history, races, myths, elements arcane (more on them later) legends there's probably a few things besides I didn't even think of, look forward to see what you come up with.
We'll be using drop box to store content because last time I tried doing this in thread it quickly became too cumbersome. Don't worry about copy right I don't intend to screw anyone over I'll make sure all the drop box entries are marked with the contributor so everyone is credited.
The main goal is the creation of a new setting for free use so no one technically owns it the only condition for use is acknowledgement of this thread (this way there's nothing to fight over). Anyone that's already contributed will be able to voice their opinion on new content and be able to be part of the decision. The only acceptations will be if a specific element introduced by someone else is used on which case they have special right regarding denial of submission or if something already
Submitted are contradicted in which case the original stands unless the person who submitted it is ok with the changes. One thing I would ask is that you year stamp any submissions to help with organisation. We'll just use numbers no need for special calendar systems (unless you want to set a new one up).

Before I forget I'm also looking for any critique you can offer of any of the ideas presented here, while I can't promise I'll agree with you I'd still be interested in the opinions you have to offer.
And, yea, shall she rise a thrid time, and speaketh, "What the hell, people! Why does this keep happening." Amen.
The city-state of Murlid, located near Mound on the river Mul and the Vess ravine, built by the Giants as Mu'rdid, but recolonised after the fall of giants by the peoples of Alsoveir, who became later known as the Goblins. Within it were found some lost technologies from the First Coming, which the goblins studied and used. The technologies allowed great insight into the nature of magic, a magic which permeated the Goblins being and led them to be known world wide as masters of magic. Much of the nation is devoted to scholarly pursuits while bio-golemnic beings known as Kobolds, created by the scholars of the city, perform much of the work. Those who completed menial taskes, known as Knockers, walk the streets constantly while order is maintained by a police force comprised equally of Goblins and Kobolds known as Pikts, who also aid the masters of the City-State in matters political. The city is very dense in nature, compried of many levels of houses and building built on houses and buildings. The city, in our terms, has a psuedo-gothic aesthetic with elements of Holy Russia and the Rennaisance.
To the south, however, lie the other Goblin race, the Grumlir, known as Gremlins by the world at large and Hod-veire by the Goblins. Where the Alsoveir went north to Murlid, the Hod-veire went south, to the marshes of Grum, where they built their city of Dis. Aestheticly, the Gremlin cities are a strange mix of Greco-Roman and Aztec, all built to avoid the waters of the swamp. The Gremlins have flesh of a pale brown hue, as apposed to the Murlids deep green, and love nohing more than gore and chaos. Where, their cousins turned to techno-magic for salvation, they turned to the feral divines, and the worship of animal spirits, particularly Snakes and Bears, with the Cockatrice ruling over them all. They exist in a bitter feud with the Hob-Grobi, as they have named their cousins, out of bitterness, madness and jealosy. Their cities are nowhere near as grand as the Murlids, as they would to a man rather be off causing buildings to fall to pieces than seiing them built, but they are no less dangerous.
The eternal conflict between the Goblins and Gremlins will likely come down to magic, and who has more powerful mages. The magic gained from the the worship of Cockatrice or the reasoned magic of the element arcane known as Murlinn.
I see the Goblins as an id-dominated, eccentric race but, while the Murlids tend to seek advancement and discovery, the Gremlins seek panic and anarchy. They're like little, fantasy Heath Ledger-Jokers.
Also, I may or may noy expand on Murlinn, but I imagine it as preoccupied with Necromancy and altering the world around you, particularly to create Golems (like the Kobolds).
I like it and look forward to any expansion you'd be willing to offer. Since its early days I won't accept just yet but I'd say your chances are good.
But there is a thing or two I think I should mention. 1-For organisation purposes it would help if the information into different topics one for the goblins as race and one for the cities or locations for example.
2-Technically worship of the feral won't bestow magical powers on worshipers (or since they are feral might not even understand they are being worshipped) but if the goblins are smart enough they could probably still carry out manipulation. But anyway feel free to give your opinion on other entries since it could help me out.
willofbob: And, yea, shall she rise a thrid time, and speaketh, "What the hell, people! Why does this keep happening." Amen.
And She will rise anew, and lay waste to the Second Age of the World and all the people thereof, to clear the way for the a more perfect creation. And the beings she wrought will oppose her with the very tools she gave unto them, and even as she will sorrow to slay them, she will glory in their strength and in their bravery.
I also like the idea of Her polar opposite, a being of endless loneliness and hunger who lives out in(beyond?) the Scorched Lands. It is drawn to the world of light and life, and yet cannot understand it's workings. It has little or no power over the world, but is desperate to learn. It's eldritch, unearthly mind knows no morality nor logic, no sanity nor insanity. It is neither good nor evil, ordered or chaotic; is the Unsane, and it is always out there, looking for a way in.
The Gremlin's magic is granted by Cockatrice, who is rather intellegent for a Feral. He doesn't just give his powers out to any worshiper, though. Those seeeking Cockatrices favour must bring forth a great offering, usually another Gremlin of lower standing. In return, Cockatrice will grant powers to its worshipers in proportion to how great a sacrifice is given. For magic to be maintained, the worshiper must continuously sacrifice to Cockatrice, meaning that magic is a craft limied to only the clergy and the wealthy. Ocasionaly, the Goblin in question will be crafty, offering fat and bones to the powerful creature, which will eat the offering without a second thought. Most times, however, the offering is befitting for their God, partially as a sign of respect, partially out of fear.
I quite like the idea that one of the feral might have been somewhat tamed. It's an interesting concept and look forward to seeing how it develops. However I'm not so sure how a feral would bestow powers onto others? It's not insurmountable of course but I think it's something that would be best explained. So we know how rare it would be or if any other races would pull it off.
okay... hmm.. How about Cockatrice sort of radiates magic, in a destructive way when angry, a benign way when happy. When Cockatrice is pleased with an offering, its magical aura seeps into the priest or noble that performs the sacrifice, as they would be closest. The Gremlins only believe Cockatrice does this out of thanks, but it is merely an unintentional reaction.
hope you like it, I may add more creatures in the future.
I like it so far. They were try eating any Elements Arcane?
just saying that question is kinda worded weirdly, If the element of arcane is a metal, rock or wood object then the glumbers would eat it but they don't use magic, it would just end up passing through their system partially digested, so you could find elements arcane in their waste. I suppose you could train a young glumber to find elements arcane.
of course you can and care to explain the tide part a little more?
Any stella body that exists has gravity, suns are so dense that even small ones have many times higher gravity than that of planets of similar size. The tides would be dependent on the revolutions of te sun across its path. You would have the standard lunar tides that are high and low, but also solar tides; These would be, northern, southern, western and eastern tides. They would change levels of liquid to one side of the body of water along with high and low; and would change with the location of the sun.

That works for me. I suppose the solar flock should be more than able to pull around the waters. However I never really set up a moon, but if you'd like one feel free to come up with ideas.
Also for everyone I plan a lot of content for other the weekends so look out for that.
What i meant by Lunar tides is that you'd still have them, just not the moon. The sun would give long periods of high and low tides, depending how close it was to the ground.

As promised here's a lot of content to celebrate this being almost a week old (and it won't be the last). In the interest of fairness it'll need to be approved by other people so I won't be creating the drop-box files yet.

Love it! Drull also gave me an idea for another God with the title of Magnificent Bastard. Also, are the Goblins the Ibeer were at war with Murlids, Gremlins or something else?
Expect more notes on Goblin society as well as other ideas soon.
Your call really, whichever tribe you think would work best. If you'd rather it be a separate group of goblins that's fine also, but I can imagine the war will be in the past given that the retreat behind the wall would have been the end of most of it for a while. Not even sure if the goblins would still care. Thoughts?

All this stuff is cool by me. I'll probably post more content myself today so look out for that.
In as well words as possible-
Let's try and create as deep a fantasy universe as we can as a community.
As promised here's the basic set up.
Creation
World lay out
Magic
So let the creativity begin.
