Nintendo has dropped a second major Metroid Dread trailer with an armored Chozo warrior, new and old weapons, and fan-favorite boss Kraid.

Metroid Dread Trailer Delivers Armored Chozo, New & Old Weapons, & a Fan-Favorite Boss

Nintendo’s surprise reveal of Metroid Dread at E3 took everyone off guard, but details have been trickling out since then fleshing out the game and now we have a second, far more extensive trailer for the game. The new Metroid Dread trailer brings a host of first looks at things on planet ZDR, including assorted weapons and what appears to be an armored Chozo, the ancient alien race that created the Metroid and Mother Brain, who is possibly one of the last remaining of its kind and may be a “Chozo warrior.”

Evidently, that mysterious opponent will once again leave Samus without any of her beefed-up powers from the end of the last game, a plot twist that’s necessary for every Metroid game because of the gameplay style. That does mean that Samus will, of course, be regaining her powers and getting some new ones. In the Metroid Dread trailer, we see nine weapons in use including returning favorites like Ice Rockets, the Grapple Beam, Speed Booster and Shine Spark, and iconic Screw Attack. There’s also the new Flash Shift ability, which allows Samus to move a set distance in an instant; Storm Missiles, which lock on to upward of five targets and fire multiple small missiles in succession; and Pulse Radar, which allows Samus to scan her surroundings pinpointing breakable objects. Sounds like rolling around dropping Bombs until the floor breaks won’t be a needed tactic in this game.

Weapons aside, there are clearly a lot of callbacks within the new Metroid Dread trailer to the previous franchise with Chozo robots flying around and even evidently Kraid as a returning boss. However, what is missing from this trailer are the E.M.M.I robots from the first one. Those are set to play a key and tough role in the game as Samus will struggle to defeat them and often choose to hide from them instead of attack. Samus and E.M.M.I. are an amiibo pack that is being produced for the game.

Metroid Dread is set to release on October 8. Metroid Prime 4 is still floating around somewhere too.
