Finch Trailer Brings Tom Hanks, His Dog, & a Robot to the Apocalypse

Tom Hanks is really good at making movies where he talks basically to himself, and if its new trailer is any indication, Finch is giving him another chance at it… kind of. The Apple TV+ film from Game of Thrones director Miguel Sapochnik has the actor on a desperate road trip for survival in a post-apocalyptic world with only a dog and robot as companions. It looks really heartwarming and uplifting as one might expect from Hanks hanging out with a dog and a friendly robot.

Finch follows Tom Hanks, who plays the titular character all over the trailer. He’s a survivor in a world that is completely destroyed by solar flares and freak weather disasters. Living a lonely life, he one day discovers a dog, who seems to bring joy back to his life. Then he builds a robot, who adds to their strange family. However, a deadly storm forces them onto the road in a beat-up trailer, and they’re forced to confront more danger and even the greatest evil of all, other humans.

The Finch trailer definitely makes this look like the kind of movie you finish watching and just feel good about everything and that life is reaffirmed. Hanks excels in this kind of stuff, and the parent/child relationship between him and the robot looks downright charming. Plus, there’s a cute dog. That’s always a winner. It’s unfortunate that the movie is exclusive to Apple TV+ since it looks like it could be fantastic on the big screen. Alas, these are the times we live in, and it seems Hanks may be hitching his streaming future to Apple as his last film, Greyhound, performed well there as well.

Finch will release on Apple TV+ on November 5.
