In the Beginning, there was boredom. An Ultra-being comprised of the sum total of the previous universe languished for a timeless eternity, categorizing all knowledge--until that knowledge was all neatly sorted and known. "What is there to do when there is nothing more to know?" it asked itself.

image

So it looked over its information, squeezing out everything that could be inferred by the connections it had. Magical theories, Divine quandaries, scientific breakthroughs, Elemental disputes, down to Psionic headaches until the being realized it missed debate. Then it began to go over the creation of all known creatures, and it knew loneliness.

image

Eventually it came up with a plan. Perhaps similar to the way the world had been created before it. It would divide itself up, with power for divine beings and much left over for the creation of New Worlds and New Life.

I will be attempting a Tabula Rasa Big Gods game. You will be a powerful god starting at the beginning of time, participating in creation and then the maintenance or ultimate destruction of that creation. You will have Action Points(AP) to pay for general actions, and Mythic Points which are intended to be used for actions that will enter the world's mythology with lasting effects and providing for mortal faith in the future. Your gods will draw from an entire destroyed universe of information and power, but you have no past: you are coming into existence now.

Actions and difficulty:

Notes on Keywords:

Assist/hinder: A god may assist another god with an action, adding their domains to the action, which can insure success.

Avatar: The physical form you manifest as. Some games may limit you to actions in an avatar state. Only assume one avatar at a time, but can be nearly anything.

Bless- A lasting positive action performed on a mortal or group of mortals.

Create Magic Item(Mortal scale) These act as D&D magic items. From everlasting chalk to a Handy Haversack to a tricked out Vorpal sword, even the most powerful of these cannot be used to harm gods except in extensively-discussed GM-sanctioned unlikely events.

Create Race(non sentient)- Whether it be large medium or small, please be pretty clear about it's form and habits. Carnivorous rabbits or beetles the size of a T-Rex for example.

Create Race(Sentient)- A mortal race roughly equivalent to humans in intelligence and ability. Take great care, as a god is only allowed 1 official patron race at a time.

Curse- A lasting negative action performed on a mortal or group of mortals.

Enchant: A sustained magical effect over an area. Break DC will always be 2 less than the DC used to create it. Can just be present or have a focal point like a physical object. Altering/Destroying an area by divine power falls under enchanting's header.

Forge Magic Item(Ranked 1-4): Through increasingly considerable costs and effort you forge a magic item capable of wielding a fraction of the power of the gods. Please think carefully about these.

Hinder: A god may hinder the actions of another, where they subtract their applied domains from the success.

Inspire- A lasting change to the way of thinking of a mortal or group of mortals. Teach actions fall under this Keyword in the absence of other mechanics to handle them.

Scry- To use divine senses and powers to search over an area.
Note: Please ask 1-4 clear, concise questions you hope to have answered by the scry.

Effortless: no roll, not counted as actions
-Conjure up a small quantity of anything
-Listen in on mortal prayers to you.
-Talk to someone(across any distance if known or scried or receive prayers from.)
-Talk to another god(across any distance)
-Take on a physical avatar.(Gods may only possess one avatar at a time)

Difficulty: 5 Local Action Cost: 1 AP
-Affect(Bless/Curse/Inspire) a single mortal for the term of their natural life
-Enchant/Scry an area the size of a large room.
-Create a trivial mortal-scale magic item.
-Identify a magic item in your possession

Difficulty: 7 Villiage Action Cost: 2 AP
-Affect(Bless/Curse/Inspire) a small group of mortals (less than 50) for life
-Enchant/Scry an area the size of a village or neighborhood.
-Create a group of trivial(10) or one heroic mortal item.
-Creating or altering a single nonsentient creature smaller than an elephant.

Difficulty: 9 Town Action Cost 3 AP
-Affect(Bless/Curse/Inspire) a large group of mortals(500) for life.
-Enchant/Scry an area the size of a town or small city
-Create a Paragon-equivalent mortal item.
-Creating or altering a one-off living creature bigger than a blue whale.
-Creating or altering a non-sentient species smaller than an elephant.

Difficulty: 11 Area Action Cost 4 AP
-Affect (Bless/Curse/Inspire) a very large group of mortals(2000) for life.
-Enchant/Scry an area the side of a Large City or a town and surrounding countryside.
-Create an Epic Mortal Item.
-Creating or altering a sentient species (Limit one per god.)
-Creating or altering a non-sentient species larger than an elephant.
-Grant transmittable immortality of a sort to a small group of mortals. (One strain per god)(eg vampires; immortality with a major instant-kill weakness, basically)
-Grant genuine immortality and invulnerability to a single mortal. They will gain the quality Immortal +0 as long as their god still lives. This does not include superpowers (eg the ability to break out of a prison cell) Nor are they immune to attack by other gods or mortals with ranked items.

Difficulty: 13 Regional Action Cost: 5 AP
-Affect (Bless/Curse/Inspire) a huge amount of mortals(5000) for the rest of their lives.
-Enchant/Scry an area of many towns or a metropolis or small Kingdom.
-Forge a +1 Magic Item
-Reforge a +1 Magic Item into a +2 Magic item(Same conditions as +2, failure will destroy the item)

*Note: All gods are aware of DC 15 and above actions.*

Difficulty: 15 Continental Action Cost: 6 AP
-Affect (Bless/Curse/Inspire) an entire race or civilization.
-Enchant/Scry a large area of the game world.
-Forge a +2 Magic item(see Item Forging)
-Turn a mortal or creature into a demigod [+2 Quality, -2 Drawback](Limit 4 Demigods per God, is NPC under GM's control.)
-Introduce a major change to the world's structure or its atmosphere without causing any lasting damage to the world (eg adding a new moon, new islands etc)

Difficulty: 17 World Action Cost: 7 AP
-Affect (Bless/Curse/Inspire) the entire world(Other players will likely take issue with this)
-Forge a +3 magic item (see Item Forging)
-Create or alter a sentient species vastly superior to a human (GM and player to agree on any bonus/es, eg immunity to disease, invulnerable to certain types of weapons etc)

Difficulty: 19 Planar Action Cost: 8 AP
-Change one of the rules of the universe across the entire world. This is likely to have a catastrophic effect.
-Enchant/Scry an area equal to the entire game world and attached realms.
-Forge a +4 Item(see Item Forging)

Item Forging:

Note: Only 1 Ranked item may be forged per age by a player.

Difficulty: 13
Forging a +1 Item (For example: Excalibur)
image
Easy to create a god merely forges it magically. Item can be destroyed by another god. Can also reforge a +1 item to a +2 with the same conditions(see below)

Difficulty: 15
Forging a +2 Item (For example: The One Ring)
image
Item must be forged in an area where it may be destroyed. Gods can figure out where by identifying the magic item. Legends exist telling mortals where to do this as well. (Location cannot be out of reach of mortals)

Difficulty: 17
Forging a +3 Item (For example: The Rod of 7 parts)
image
Sacrifice an entire race or continent to create. Cannot be destroyed.

Difficulty: 19
Forging a +4 Item (For example: The Infinity Gauntlet)
image
Have part of a domain (+2) donated from a god, living or dead. Item cannot be destroyed, only imprisoned or placed beyond the reach of mortals and other gods.

AP (Action Points)

All gods will recieve 30 AP for the use of actions. At the start of each age the gods get a recharge. AP cannot be collected or banked.

MP (Mythic Points)

All gods receive 2 MP at the start of an age. Mythic points are intended for big, world-changing actions or dire situation last-ditch efforts in a style reflecting many other real-world and fictional-world mythologies.. Actions involving Mythic Points use half AP, rounded down. Mythic Actions are intended to enter the mythology of mortals and other lesser beings.

Worship and Power and YOU!

Mortal Worship will have no effect in the first age, but that can easily change in future ages.

Game-Specific Notes

Combat:

-As normal, the difference of the attack roll minus the defense roll equals the number of ranks lost.

-However, you cannot be destroyed outright by the outcome of a single skirmish. Instead, should a PC be dropped to 0 ranks they will lose all of the AP in their pool(basically out of play until the next age), the winner can choose to either:
-subtract a rank from the loser(first instance would drop a god to +10, note that this lost rank will work as a prerequisite for a +4 magic item)
-confer an additional drawback(to be discussed with opposing party and GM. Example: in D&D histories Corellon wounding Gruumsh's eye).

-Attack/Defense for both sides will be resolved at the same time, so nobody has to jockey for attacking first. It will be possible for both sides to be reduced to +0, which I would find hilarious.

Imprisonment: Should a god run afoul of many others, if the opposition should so choose they can imprison the target in a demiplane(DC19 action, likely overwhelmed defender gets a free opposing roll or normal cost final action). This effectively ends a character's run and is kind of a big deal.

Mythic Points: Actions using mythic points are intended to be in the style of the myths of many world cultures. As such these posts should have some distinct effort and flavor to them as befits your god. This is not to say that they should be especially long or complicated, just well thought out and decently executed. Really good attempts will likely get an upshift. Really bad ones will get a downshift.

Interconnectivity: Should you choose to create a populated part of the game-world separate from a unified physical world(like the moon, as an obvious example) it must be accessible to mortals under some fairly regular conditions(examples: a crossing forms under certain repeating predictable natural conditions, or a stable entrance portal or magic door etc) To make mortals in an absolutely separate realm is to remove yourself from the game.

Update Schedule: I intend to have regular weekly updates on Sundays, and maybe supplementary ones on Wednesdays if time and player participation allow. Exception: Should you get into a godbattle, I will update for you to resolve that in a timely manner.

Participation: Due to problems I've had in the past I'm instituting this rule: players missing two consecutive weekly updates without any notice will be considered to have dropped. I'm not hunting you down. So if work or school or real life gets busy, let us know so we don't feel abandoned.

IRC- While not necessary, it does help.

It really helps to be in irc fairly often(we're in #escapistgods on Synirc), both to communicate with other players and have IC chats to speed things up should your schedules align. The absolute simplest way to do that is to click this link: http://webchat.synirc.net/, next to "Nickname" put your escapist username(preferably), and next to "Channel" type in "#escapistgods".

The Gods

The Storyteller

"Gather round children, gather round." The storyteller said sitting on a log as young children cuddled around the campfire, "and let me tell you a story, a story of the gods and their actions. Those of life, and those of death. Law and Chaos. Let me tell you of them, and how they acted towards one another."

"In the beginning, there was only the void, and the unending darkness, vast beyond anything that we could comprehend. And suddenly, they were there, the gods, sent there from another place, another time. The split remnants of a being even greater than themselves. This is the story of them."

You are starting in a void. There is literally nothing around. Bold your character name at the top of each post, post out of character thoughts and your actions with applicable domains in italics. Also include the number of action/mythic points you have left for easy bookkeeping. And remember, not every post need to include an action.

Zareth

The light was blinding. But then there was nothing.... again? Nothing again? Was their nothing before? What was that light if there is no light? Then it realised, it was alive. That's what had changed.

It was alive. He was alive. He? It felt like a he... but what was a he?

Then it hit, like a space cruiser travelling at light speed -a what?!

Knowledge.

Knowledge filled every essence of his being. That question didn't matter any more, he was clear on what a space cruiser was. On what life was. On death, the ground, the air, stars and worlds. All of creation was rushing through every inch of his being. But it wasn't whole, it was more like echoes. Pieces of a time long since past. It felt like everything was there for him to take and to know.

It was too much.

The voices, the sound, blinding, BLINDING light! His very essence screamed out! No! no! That's enough! And that was it, he had severed the link. He didn't know what he was linked to but he felt an overwhelming sense of melancholy about no longer being a part of it.

It took him a moment but he found, or perhaps made, a voice for himself. "What were you?" He asked the nothingness. "Were you the one that made me? Or were you just me?" What ever the sudden burst of power and knowing had felt so familiar he could have sworn it had always been a part of him.

"Enough of that." He thought. "Focus on what you know. You can speak, you can think and you have enough knowledge to fill a thousand libraries." He glanced around the void, an easy thing to do when you have no physical form. "Why aren't there any libraries? Someone should build some libraries, I would prefer it if all this knowledge was written down. I don't want to have to go through all that again if I forget something..... am I capable of forgetting?"

He dove deep into the sea that was his conciousness to see what else he knew. All around him, thought and images swirled and clashed, each one vying for his attention. But above the war for his thoughts one stood out above the rest.

Zareth

And in that moment he knew that was his name.

"I am Zareth." He said proudly to the emptiness. Not empty for long though.

All around him he could feel bursts of life. Explosions of power. Each one hit with the force of an atom bomb and rose like a gasp for breath. Were there others now? He had never quite realised in his daze that he was alone before. But he was certain, these blasts felt just like what he had experienced. This was life. Others had followed him into existence. He let himself drift across the void, closer to those who had entered it.

"Hello!" He called out. "Is anyone there?"

Roe

Somewhere not far from where Zareth floated, a small spark danced amongst the explosions of creation, buffeted to and fro by the gods being birthed into existence. His entire being was filled with ecstatic joy and he sung a wordless melody into the void, repeating one primordial sound again and again.

"Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrroooooooooooooooooooeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!"

Thoughts sped through his budding mind at light speed as he observed the new universe around him.

Bright, dark, hot, cold, fast, slow, dance, swirl, nothing, something... wait... I think... therefore I am!

Unlike the other passing thoughts, the last one stuck in his mind, repeating itself again and again. He realised with a jolt that his consciousness meant he must exist! He didn't know why but this made the little spark even happier and he began to sing again, even as he heard something else calling out from somewhere nearby in the darkness.

Another?

The spark approached the other being, wondering if it was another... whatever he was. He sung a note to the formless shape to see if it would reply.

"Rrrrrroooooooeeeeeee?"

Pentar

There was a blinding flash, a chaotic eruption of energy. Heat and light danced in a sphere, wild and uncontrolled. But then a force from within willed the energy to be calm, and so it was. Then the sphere collapsed into nothingness, and the force gained sentience.

It's first thought was surprise and astonishment at what had just happened. "Did I just will myself into existence?" it thought. "In fact, what am I to begin with?"

It then turned it's focus outward into the void. Surrounding it was an endless void; how the force knew it was endless it had no idea, but it was certain of this fact. But the void was not completely empty. The force could sense other forces coming into existence all around it. "What are these things?" it asked itself. Then it again asked "What am I?"

It was then that the stream of knowledge hit him, for it was a he. It was like a great wave, long held back by a dam but now set loose by his questions. He saw the whole of the universe and what it could be. His mind was filled with every possible thought. It was nearly too much to handle. And then, it was over. There seemed a sudden calmness in his mind, now filled with so much information. And in this calmness, one question arose. "What is my name?"

"Pentar." The word instantly sprung to his mind. He didn't know were it had come from of what it meant, but it was his name, there was no doubting it.

Happy with his new found omniscience, Pentar returned his focus to the universe around him. The other forces where beginning to stir, and one called out "Is anyone there".

"Hello!" Pentar cast the thought out, almost instinctively. "What is this place?"

Eldarwen - 30 AP, 2 MP

Another awakening, but not to sunlight or under a tree. All she could see was darkness and emptiness. A void, but why? Was this was death felt like? The thought brought a sudden surge of memories back to her. Feelings of betrayal after a long time of friendship. She screamed and wanted to break the void apart, to wake up beneath a tree again and show them what betraying her meant. She noticed that she didn't have a shape or form for some reason, and that was the first of her goals. It felt like she still had powers, even more than before. The first body she made for herself was the memory of the one she had once had, but it didn't feel right. It was too beautiful and not nearly as awe-inspiring as she wanted. She changed her appearance, to a darker one with bright glowing eyes. A part of her body became a staff.

Destruction, a surprisingly enjoyable thing to cause, even behind a cloud of insanity. This would be a new creation, and she no longer suffered from a broken mind.

She had done a lot for them. Who were they? Spirits, animals, trees. Her purpose had been made clear to her even further back in time. Though maybe the concept of time didn't apply to her current situation. Her purpose hadn't changed, but all that time being defensive and protecting creatures who destroyed her in the end, that might have been the wrong course of action. They would serve her and fight for her goals, not the other way around. Not this time.

Explosions happened around her as other gods came into existence. Her first thought was that it was too bad, she would have enjoyed her own creation, unchallenged by these others.

She could hear some of them talking already.

"I am Eldarwen, princess..." No, that wasn't who she was. She would be the one to chose now. "Queen of nature."

Yes, it was much more fitting.

"Who are you?"

Tsuranote

The Gracious Lord of Flames gazed upon the empty void, his mind wandering. Searching. There were words. Words that formed thoughts that formed ideas... Tsuranote did not question where it came from, he accepted it as the great gift that it was. He looked upon the void again. Such emptiness... It will not do! ... My name...! What is my name?! He raised his great hand in front of him, forming it into a fist. He remembered it now. The nine great letters that made his name.

"Tsu... Ra... No... Te! I am Tsuranote!" He cried out at the top of his voice, booming out into the void. There was much to do, much to be created... Joy that needed to be spread! Surely he wasn't the only one who was left to create in the black? His eyes searched around him, looking for a sign of anything else. That was when he heard the being known as Zareth.

Tsuranote raised his fist above him. "I am here, good Friend!" The Flame-God shouted out at the other great being. "It is good to see another, in this great expanse!"

No sooner then he finished speaking did Tsuranote hear a second being, then a third and a fourth! How great and glorious! There was life! Strength! That which Tsuranote KNEW was the most fantastic thing that would ever be! Life and strength! "And greetings to you too!" Every word that came from the Flame-God's mouth was filled with emotion, with emphasis. It seemed that it was impossible for him to say something quietly or without a great amount of feeling behind it. He enjoyed every sound that came from his mouth.

One asked a question. A simple question, perhaps, but one that Tsuranote was himself unsure off. What, exactly, was this place? One thought came to the Lord of Flames, a thought that he chose to share.

"Is this... The Beginning!?"

Vantric

There was a shift, a change of some kind. It was subtle, though revolutionary. The fact that it could acknowledge that a shift had taken place was evidence enough of this shift. There was emptiness, but now there wasn't. It was puzzling. There was no longer nothing. There was...something?

That was strange. Something. What was this? Space. Material being. Location. Thought. These were new. They were...fascinating. From where it was there was little to see. The nothingness of before seemed, in visual terms, indistinguishable from the somethingness of now. A ripple of something new cut across the veil of being.

What? Something different? It was in stark contrast from the darkness. Darkness? A new concept. And the other-the non-darkness-what was that? A new thought came. Light. He crept slowly from it's position in the dark. toward where the darkness thinned out into the light. At the edge, he saw something amazing. There were lights everywhere, and even more darkness in contrast, but the light was always different, some attribute of it was shifting and different constantly. Color.

Existence spread out before him, stretching out further than he had thought. The magnitude of being settled down on him. There was an entire reality out there, unlimited possibilities. It was all there, for the taking.

To claim this new universe, it would need to become something. It formed as it emerged from the darkness into the light of creation, taking shape and being of his own.

He saw himself in his mind's eye, in the form he crafted. What was he? It was strange the form he naturally morphed into. Vantric. That was the name of the being he was. He remained quiet for a time, contemplating what his next move should be. In the distance he heard a voice, and turned toward it. There was something...someone else? It was a development worth investigating.

Nivix - 30 AP, 2 MP

Before the beginning, there was null. A vast, boundless void, an ocean of oblivion that stretched from one end of non-existence to the other. The absolute absence of everything, it was nothingness incarnate. No color, no sound, no scent, no taste. A nullity.

In the beginning, there was a burst of light.

Just after the beginning, there was Nivix.

For a short time, he was satisfied. His mind was an unending maelstrom of thoughts and ideas, all of them processed instantaneously and filed away for later study.

He knew.

He knew.

What did he know, exactly? Well, a lot of things. His name, an arbitrarily collection of letters that helped to determine his identity, at least in part, was Nivix. He had just been, for the lack of a better word, birthed into this new reality, and was currently little more than a loose collection of thoughts that had lumped themselves together into a single consciousness. He liked the light that had accompanied his birth, and found the unending darkness that surrounded him more than a little disappointing. The square root of 39571947191 was 198926.9895992, assuming you were using a base-ten number system.

He also noted that he wasn't alone. And considering that the nothingness that enveloped him was getting to be quite boring, maybe these fellow spots of consciousness could offer something to interest him.

"Hello! Is anyone there?"

Sending a trail of thoughts probing through the void, Nivix prodded at the source of the strange sensation. "Hello yourself!" he replied, happily discovering that he could express his thoughts in a way that others could comprehend them. "How's it going? I think I was just born, and I'm kind of bored; I don't suppose you have anything interesting to do, do you? Something like that light from earlier. That was pretty neat."

"Rrrrrroooooooeeeeeee?"

Another consciousness spoke up, and Nivix sent another tendril of thoughts towards it. "Okay... Not really sure how to respond to that. Nice to meet you, I suppose?"

"Hello! What is this place?"

A third entity to converse with. "Right, have to admit, starting to get a little bit confused here. Too many thoughts, not enough to really tell them apart from each other, you know?"

"I am Eldarwen, princess... Queen of nature. Who are you?"

"Ah-ha!" Nivix let out with a burst of happiness. Something to identify, to latch onto! Names, that's what they all needed! "Thank you Eldarwen! The name's Nivix, though I don't quite have a title yet. Ah well, I've just been born; I suppose there's time enough for things like that later, right?"

"Is this... The Beginning!?"

"It certainly seems that way... friend? Brother? Fellow? Not really sure what to call you," Nivix mused. What was his relation to all of these other entities? It was safe to assume that they had all been born from that same burst of light. But beyond that... Things certainly were mysterious.

"So!" Nivix cried out, projecting his thoughts to everything that surrounded him. "It's lovely to meet all of you! Now I kind of have to ask: do any of you know anything about the light that came earlier?"

Seith 30 AP, 2 MP

Chaos...darkness...change...light?

In a distant plane, a mass of darkness had spit out it's own avatar to the cosmos, to spread and destroy for the sake of destruction. Anyone who would attempt to behold the form of this mass would go further insane than comprehension would allow, quickly becoming just another vestige of this blackness.

One couldn't comprehend then, why one such as Seith would emerge soon after disorder's avatar. A bright light pierced the veil of the mass and it soon shrank and began to dissolve into the light gaining form. The mass had become something else now, something with purpose. It seemed almost as if the chaos wanted to right its own wrongs. Seith couldn't tell.

The creature soon began making a definite form, making arms, legs, a body. It began to glow an even brighter color of teal, then red and soon the colors were changing so rapidly that they just appeared to be a stable white. Then, darkness.

Had the chaos undone what had been made? A voice spoke out with an answer.

"No."

The brilliance soon returned, representing an almost perfection of balance between order and chaos, the creature spawned a brilliant but ever changing glow around it and began to jet off, its brother still getting used to his form.

Seith could understand and comprehend it all, his purpose, his reason for existing. To spread enlightenment and to ensure that his universe is great. It all made perfect sense. There were others too, they would help Seith to decide the fate of this universe. He made a decision, he would find those that would bring the world to a better foundation and hopefully achieve his purpose.

Seith made the first move, to speak to everyone at once. His voice was balanced, meticulous, thought out and smooth.

"Hello friends. I am Seith and we are here with an express purpose, to create. I wish to establish peace among us and hope to work together. Let us meet together to try and establish this peace."

Zareth

"Rrrrrroooooooeeeeeee?"

"Roe? Is that your name?" Zareth shifted, being a voice only would not do. This dancing spark called Roe had the right idea. He warped himself into a shape. Nothing fancy, just something he knew to be humanoid. A grey shape of what he remembered being human proportions. It rippled and flowed as if caught in the wind. He held out his hand and the spark danced just above his outstretched palm. "Well it's very nice to meet you Roe. I'm glad to have some company in this place."

As if on queue the void lit up with more life and a chorus of voices rang out in greeting. One was high and regal. Another was deep and bold. A third one broke the very darkness with fire and mirth. Suddenly they were all around him.

"Hello! What is this place?"

"I am Eldarwen, princess... Queen of nature. Who are you?"

"I am here, good Friend! It is good to see another, in this great expanse! Is this... The Beginning!?"

"It's lovely to meet all of you! Now I kind of have to ask: do any of you know anything about the light that came earlier?"

"Hello friends. I am Seith and we are here with an express purpose, to create. I wish to establish peace among us and hope to work together. Let us meet together to try and establish this peace."

It all seemed like a lot to take in and yet he did so easily. He smiled, though his form could not show it he felt such great happiness at seeing this. It was glorious! Others of his own kind and to see them! So full of life, of energy. They were hopes and dreams personified. He felt a warmth in his chest and a pale white light accompanied it. There were so many of them and somewhere out in the void he could feel more. More of their kind who were yet to make themselves known. Some were sleeping or waiting.

There was one who stood just outside of the group watching them as they talked. Zareth did not know why he did not make himself known but he thought it cruel to try and rush him, let him come in his own time.

Still he couldn't help but feel that this ongoing expanse of nothing was beginning to get somewhat oppressive. Which gave him an idea.

"Yes, yes I suppose it is the beginning. I think that light was us. I must admit this place does seem a little grim now that it's faded." He turned to the fiery form of Tsuranote, light already emanating from his great red body. "Perhaps someone can help us with that?" He said cocking his head inquisitively.

Vantric

Several new entities were created as well, it appeared, Vantric noted. They were a strange collection. Each had a form very unlike his own. What were they, what was their goal, their intention. Vantric found himself suspicious of these others. What would become of this new creation with these new beings? He would need to establish certain things about them, and determine what the best way to deal with them was.

As he plotted quietly a bright flash tore through existence. When it subsided a new being appeared.

"Hello friends. I am Seith and we are here with an express purpose, to create. I wish to establish peace among us and hope to work together. Let us meet together and establish this peace."

A new order? How did this figure know what their purpose was? What were his motives? It was all disquieting. He would need to watch his steps very carefully. Vantric moved more fully toward into the open. It was a calculated risk showing himself, but the risk was justified to learn more about these others.

"I am Vantric. It is a pleasure to meet you. You speak of peace, and I agree. Let us not fight. However, before that, I am curious: who are you?"

Pentar

Seeing how his fellows had manifested themselves in a more defined form, Pentar decided to follow suit. He willed his essence into a shape that was similar to the others; two legs, two arms, one head, esc, esc. He also heard Nivix' quip about names, and thought it wise to introduce himself. "Goodness, where are my manners." his voice boomed. "I am Pentar, pleased to meet you all."

He then turned to the one called Seith. "What makes you so certain of our purpose, friend?"

Seith

"I am Vantric. It is a pleasure to meet you. You speak of peace, and I agree. Let us not fight. However, before that, I am curious: who are you?"

The first to respond to Seith's request was a pale creature who looked unlike Seith. Seith kept his light on as a beacon to his fellow creators. The creature wore a tunic and Seith was eager to begin interacting.

It appeared to Seith that the creature wanted peace as well, which was good. Its name was Vantric and while they shared similar forms, that was the extent. Seith behind his unending light had transparent skin and his veins glowed with the same radiant light that came from his core. This creature was duller, easily lost amongst the darkness that it had stepped from.

"You agree with peace Vantric, that is good. As mentioned prior, my name is Seith and I have the express gift of knowledge, the knowledge of why we are here. As you can see, this area lacks form, we exist to remedy this and to establish...an order. I wish to help oversee this order, to keep everyone open and equal, to achieve balance while at the same time ever changing. What do you believe to be your distinct purpose?"

"What makes you so certain of our purpose, friend?"

Another spoke, it held a similar appearance to the other, aside from the glowing eyes, and called itself Pentar.

"I am honestly not entirely sure, but I somehow know my gift for this cosmos will be that of common knowledge. From this, I suppose we all have gifts of some kind, if that is what we may call them. Mine is more apparent and thus has shown itself earlier. I expect we will soon see what we are all capable of when it begins."

Melanthios 30 AP, 2 MP

There had only been chaos in an limitless void, but then there was a flash of light. And it knew that nothing would ever be the same again. But how could it know this? How was it able to think? There were only questions for a short time. But then the answers came, all of his questions were answered. Melanthios had been created.

But created how? And by who? For what reason? The answers only lead to more questions. But at least he had some answers. He somehow knew that he wasn't an it but an he. He suddenly heard a voice from another being. Were they like him? What was their purposes? Only more questions appeared as he experienced new things.

"Hello! Is anyone there?" The voice sounded strange. Melanthios decided that he would remain quiet for now. He did not know the purpose of this other being, so he would hide until he knew more about what the other thing was.

Suddenly a second voice appeared. "Hello yourself! How's it going? I think I was just born, and I'm kind of bored; I don't suppose you have anything interesting to do, do you? Something like that light from earlier. That was pretty neat."

"Rrrrrroooooooeeeeeee?" A third voice appeared. This voice different from the other two.

"Hello! What is this place?" Another voice.

"Right, have to admit, starting to get a little bit confused here. Too many thoughts, not enough to really tell them apart from each other, you know?"

"I am Eldarwen, princess... Queen of nature. Who are you?" Queen of nature? What did that mean? "Ah-ha! Thank you Eldarwen! The name's Nivix, though I don't quite have a title yet. Ah well, I've just been born; I suppose there's time enough for things like that later, right?" This Nivix was very talkative.

"Is this... The Beginning!?" Melanthios was unsure himself. "It certainly seems that way... friend? Brother? Fellow? Not really sure what to call you," "So! It's lovely to meet all of you! Now I kind of have to ask: do any of you know anything about the light that came earlier?"

He somehow knew that he needed a body before doing anything else. Melanthios began to materialize. His form was dark, just as the void around him. He was shaped from the void itself combining with his knowledge. He looked around as he was being shaped. He moved his fingers? Claws? they seemed to react to him. He knew so much yet so little.

"Hello friends. I am Seith and we are here with an express purpose, to create. I wish to establish peace among us and hope to work together. Let us meet together and establish this peace." Peace? How could he know about having peace before he knew the goals of the other entities? Still the meeting would hopefully give him the answerers he was looking for. "What makes you so certain of our purpose, friend?" That was a valid question. It seemed there was another entity who questioned their purpose. What do you believe to be your purpose?" That made sense, Melanthios had created a body for himself. Maybe that was his purpose? To create things? Things that would answer his questions.

He decided to make himself known, these other beings might know things that he didn't. things that could answer his many questions. Still he was silent, for now."Greetings to all of you, I am Melanthios. And I also seek peace." His voice sounded different, it had been unlike any of the other voices. He remained quiet after that, he wondered how many more entities there were.

Roe

"Roe? Is that your name?"

The spark approached the other being slowly and inspected his grey form, he was fascinated by not only it's rippling form but also the sounds emanating from it. They weren't as symmetrical or harmonious as what he was singing but he realised that somehow through these sounds he could understand what the being was thinking.

"Well it's very nice to meet you Roe. I'm glad to have some company in this place."

"Roe?" the spark replied, turning over the sound in his mind. It was the only one he couldn't understand and then suddenly in a flash it came to him.

He is referring to me... my sound is Roe

Roe decided he better try to reply but finding the right sounds was still difficult, even as a cacophony of voices began to surround him with more and more gods being created around him and the grey being.

"HellonewbeingsmysoundisRoe!" he squeaked to all those gathered nearby in the void, brightening and dimming his glow in greeting.

Nivix - 30 AP, 2 MP

As the conversations continued, lights began to shine. It was with no small amount of surprise that Nivix observed that he could see his companions; their forms were exposed by the light, substance that stood apart from the void around them.

Wishing for a form of his own, the entity concentrated for an instant. Then, with a searing flash of brightness, a sphere of brilliant flames burst into existence. Simple, yet it served its purpose. At least now his fellows would have something to associate with his words.

"Hello friends. I am Seith and we are here with an express purpose, to create. I wish to establish peace among us and hope to work together. Let us meet together to try and establish this peace."

"To create, mmmmmm?" Nivix considered Seith's proposal. It was true that, simply by manifesting themselves into bodies and shapes, they had already made the void far more interesting then it had been. Yes, creating more must surely be their reason for existence!

While the other beings began to talk of peace and gifts, Nivix found himself concentrating once again. He had already managed to bring this temporary body into existence; what else could he create just by the force of his will?

Vantric

It seemed that the others were amiable to peace. That was good. It meant he had time to plan, to stay ahead. Nearby another one being came forward from the cloying void of nothingness. The new figure was strange. He was covered, his form hidden from the rest of them. Why? Vantric wondered. That was something worth uncovering.

"Greetings to all of you, I am Melanthios. And I also seek peace." The new being said. Melanthios? Interesting.

"Very good to know." Vantric said. The glowing one, Seith, continued on about Creation and creating. Creating? "You agree with peace Vantric, that is good. As mentioned prior, my name is Seith and I have the express gift of knowledge, the knowledge of why we are here. As you can see, this area lacks form, we exist to remedy this and to establish...an order. I wish to help oversee this order, to keep everyone open and equal, to achieve balance while at the same time ever changing. What do you believe to be your purpose?"

"You wish to oversee this order?" Vantric challenged. Seith was moving, evidently very quickly. "I would say that if we are equals, then we should have free agency. Let creation belong to us as we see fit." Hopefully, some of the others would see the wisdom in his words. It would be most advantageous if they did. This Seith would need to be watched.

Seith

"You wish to oversee this order?" I would say that if we are equals, then we should have free agency. Let creation belong to us as we see fit."

The creature was attempting to subvert Seith, to object to his purpose, difficult. Seith paused for a moment and pondered. The others had achieved a form and all seemed interested in what they could create. He smiled.

"You avoided my question to instead challenge me directly, interesting. Free reign without rules can be...problematic. Now, I don't wish to overly constrain any of you, that would hinder our purpose after all. With that said, some guidelines should be established in order to promote our purpose, wouldn't you agree Vantric?"

Seith was starting to feel uneasy about Vantric. The same sense that told him his purpose was also telling him to be wary of this creature. Wording from now on would have to be even more careful, the balance had to be achieved, Seith knew that was his purpose.

Eldarwen - 30 AP, 2 MP

"It is nice to make your acquaintance, Nivix." She said, to the one who had spoken her name. Eldarwen could be pleasant, for now, but she doubted that these others would remain her allies and friendly for long. Some of them might, but then there were those who'd go against her. Peace was brought up, but it didn't matter to her if they were all happy friends or trying to kill each other. It had little to do with her purpose, unless someone actually had a similar goal, then she would remain neutral. Actually, it could be preferable if some of them killed each other.

"You wish to oversee this order? I would say that if we are equals, then we should have free agency. Let creation belong to us as we see fit"

Eldarwen agreed, she would follow no one.

"I agree with you. Vantric, was that your name?" She knew it was, but she didn't feel the need to let it show. Perhaps she could even turn the conversation away from this talk about peace and order. "This is an awfully dreary environment, don't you agree?"

It was still nothing but a dark void around them.

"I'd suggest we create a home or a temple, or heaven. Whatever you wish to call it. A gathering place, where we can meet in peace and watch over the universe and the mortals."

Pentar

"You agree with peace Vantric, that is good. As mentioned prior, my name is Seith and I have the express gift of knowledge, the knowledge of why we are here. As you can see, this area lacks form, we exist to remedy this and to establish...an order. I wish to help oversee this order, to keep everyone open and equal, to achieve balance while at the same time ever changing. What do you believe to be your distinct purpose?"

Seith had used the term order, and this word sent Pentar's mind on a tangent. Immediately, a thousand synonyms popped into his mind; uniformity, organization, systematic. And mingled with these thoughts and ideas was joy and pleasure. Pentar liked, no, he loved order, and he would be more than happy to help Seith bring it to this universe.

But then the one called Vantric spoke up. He disagreed, and while Pentar believed in free expression, his ideas would go against the greater good. Already he was attracting a follower in the nature lady, whatever her name was. This would not do.

"Free reign without rules can be...problematic. Now, I don't wish to overly constrain any of you, that would hinder our purpose after all. With that said, some guidelines should be established in order to promote our purpose, wouldn't you agree Vantric?"

"Agreed." Pentar voiced. "Rules must be made and followed if we are to function at our best. We all command great power, we know this, but we have to restrain ourselves, lest the universe devolve into chaos."

"I'd suggest we create a home or a temple, or heaven. Whatever you wish to call it. A gathering place, where we can meet in peace and watch over the universe and the mortals."

That was the tree women again, Eldarwen, Pentar remembered. "Now that's something I can get behind. Floating about in the void is no way to hold a debate." Perhaps she had some good ideas after all. "But how do we go about creating such a place?"

Seith

Sides were being taken, the one called Pentar had joined Seith's side and Eldawaren was siding with Vantric. This wasn't good, this could lead to conflict and the universe was far too young for that. Seith had to think and fast, but then the green one brought up an excellent point, a pantheon for them. Seith's smile got larger as they all could agree on this.

He first decided to address Pentar. He could see the creature had a love for order, Seith was happy, yet concerned that he may take his ambition too far.

"Please keep in mind Pentar, that too much structure could destroy creativity, a resource all to precious. I am glad we see eye to eye on the overall concept however. As stated, I do not wish to restrain you Eldawaren, I simply wish to keep us from attacking one another."

Then the question of a home.

"As for creating our home...I would imagine that we just simply...will it in. I would be willing to do this if nobody else would want to."

Eldarwen

Seith seemed very eager to gain control and to order the others around. She was like nature, uncontrollable and would not let anyone keep her from doing what she wanted to.

"Please keep in mind Pentar, that too much structure could destroy creativity, a resource all to precious. I am glad we see eye to eye on the overall concept however. As stated, I do not wish to restrain you Eldawaren, I simply wish to keep us from attacking one another."

He couldn't even pronounce her name, but at least he claimed to not want to restrain her, something he wouldn't be able to do anyway.

"My name is Eldarwen." She said.

"As for creating our home...I would imagine that we just simply...will it in. I would be willing to do this if nobody else would want to."

She disagreed again, they were more than one god and if they all worked together, on this one task at the beginning of the universe then they might remember that in the future, when peace might be laughable.

"No, I say that we all create it together. While I'm sure one god could create something amazing, having us all use our powers to create it should make it the greatest construction in all of existence."

Ailish -- 2, 30

"You broke the heavens!!"

"The four kings of Hell have escaped!"

"...There is no hope..."

"There can be only one just punishment..."

"Ailish, you know where to find me."

She woke, her eyes seeing only sparks of light in the void of darkness. In every blink she saw a different face inwardly glare at her. But why? What had she done? Wait a minute... Who was she?

Her indignation turned to introspection as she took a look back in her mind. She pushed back the glowering people to see beyond these emotions. At first there was more darkness. Then came a flash of light as streams of amber snaked around her gaze. Towers of light emerged from below as schools of neon fish traversed the pearly skies above, but her gaze kept with the amber trails. People began to appear, but instead of angry glares, they looked still and stoic, as if time had stopped for them. Names appeared over them and a cacophony of voice began to speak about these people, how they conceived golden ages, forged weapons from bliss, fought against the forces of decay, and more information kept piling up. Her head began to strain from the knowledge of these people and this... strange place. And her heart felt heavy.

Then came a flash of light, and her eyes snapped open.

Ailish. That was her name. No, that is her name. Nothing had really changed with her. The sweetness of her enemy did not taint her, nor did the Duke of Sin court the goddess, and so there no need to change. The only thing that did was the plane she lived in. She recognized the place as a purgatory forged by the Ideal Gods, crafting a void to insulate upstart people from the Heavens. Wait, the Heavens!!

An amethyst tear fell in mourning. Fortunately she had the presence of mind to capture it in her staff before it hit the ground, and Heavens know what would've happened if it collided with the void.

"This is too useful for such an empty place." Ailish said to herself. "But... why?" Her mind would take her to another place. Survivors? Were they imprisoned with her as well? She wanted to speak with them, and so she did.

"Excuse me, but are any of you real?"

Vantric

Seith seemed upset that Vantric had challenged him. Vantric too felt uncomfortable, but for different reasons. He was too open with his opposition, too sudden. This would not do, not in the future. He would need to refine his tactics, he contemplated.

"Free reign without rules can be...problematic. Now, I don't wish to overly constrain any of you, that would hinder our purpose after all. With that said, some guidelines should be established in order to promote our purpose, wouldn't you agree Vantric?"

His opponent seemed to be trying to kill with kindness. Seith was attempting to manipulate all of them with sweet words and skewed logic. Fortunately, it seemed that not everyone was so taken by the proposition Seith was advancing. The nature woman, Eldawaren, was certainly an ally, at least in this situation. She would certainly be worth working with later too, perhaps.

It seemed though, that Seith had his own ally. The large one with the metal suit and hammer, Pentar, seemed to willingly shackle himself to Seith and his attempt to dominate the rest of them. Pentar seemed to want order, and immediately. He will be a strong rival, and a likely opponent, Vantric thought.

Eldawaren voiced the idea of creating something together. A home, a solid place of some kind. Pentar and Seith quickly agreed, and Vantric decided to acquiesce as well. "A fine idea. We will need a place of our own, separate from the less important affairs of this new existence. Perhaps afterward we can set to rest this matter of dominion."

Nivix - 23 AP, 2 MP

The chattering of the others faded into the background as Nivix poured all of his mind and concentration into a single thought.

The light's glow had been all encompassing, warm, wondrous. It was the antithesis of the void that surrounded him.

He wanted to emulate it, to copy its brilliance. He wanted more of the light, he wanted to bask in its embrace, to feel its warm caress as it poured over him. He wanted it. He WANTED it.

But at the same time, it had been fast and fleeting. An instant of brightness, and then more nothingness. It had faded and left him, leaving him in this sea of oblivion.

No. NO. He did not want something that would leave as soon as it came into existence; he wanted something that would remain, a constant that would last as long as he desired. He would create his own light, and he would sustain it for however long he pleased! It would be his light, his warmth, his distraction from this unending void!

Unconsciously, Nivix began to conjure trace amounts of materials into reality. A handful of protons, neutrons, and electrons that began to cluster together, bouncing off of each other and binding to form larger molecules. Soon, there was a small sphere of gaseous matter floating before his avatar.

All he had to do was add a spark...

He could see it now. A bit of fire, and the gas would dance and shine for him. Its brilliance would shine throughout the void. It would be glorious.

It would also be far too small.

"More... MORE!"

Cackling, Nivix continued to add to the cloud of gas, steadily increasing its mass at a prodigious rate. This would be his mark, his gift to this new reality. It would be his, and no one else's!

It would be his star.

"Now," he roared, his voice dancing with ecstasy, "SHOW ME HOW YOU SHINE!"

He added a spark.

Nivix ignores all the talk of peace and building a home. Instead, he tries to create a star.

Creating a star: Yeah, not really sure what the DC on this would be. +6 from Knowledge, possibly +4 from Destruction based on GM's inclinations.

Seith

As time passed, two factions seemed to arise, though unofficial and fleeting as they may be, Seith had to keep everyone honest, bad things would happen otherwise, he could feel it. He knew it, something inside told him this and Seith would ensure it.

"Excuse me, but are any of you real?"

Another appeared, it was unlike the rest, seemingly friendly and innocent, like the smaller creature but less...bothersome.

"We are indeed real, it appears you have joined us and our purpose, there is always room for more. We were just discussing a home."

While Seith was made nervous by Pentar and Vantric, he felt that the new goddess...Ailish could be helpful and indeed someone good to have. Allies Seith felt sad to say, were an inevitable realization at this point.

"No, I say that we all create it together. While I'm sure one god could create something amazing, having us all use our powers to create it should make it the greatest construction in all of existence."

That...would be a good idea, Seith was unsure if they could manage to work together using powers they were only vaguely aware they had, but perhaps the gods could...anything was possible.

"We should most certainly try. Perhaps we each make a portion and then combine on a meeting hall in the center. I could make a place to observe from...to bring light to our creations."

Eldarwen - 30 AP, 2 MP

"We should most certainly try. Perhaps we each make a portion and then combine on a meeting hall in the center. I could make a place to observe from...to bring light to our creations."

She nodded, as that sounded like the best way to go about it. Eldarwen already knew what she should create, as she felt the need to add something that would remind everyone of her.

"That sounds alright. I shall create a garden for myself. One of which likes has never been seen before." She realized that there probably hadn't been any gardens yet, at least not in this universe. Her memories told her that she had created many gardens before though.

Eldarwen raised her staff and began channeling magic through it, to create a beautiful garden in the void, which would become part of their home.

Ailish - 2, 30

"We are indeed real, it appears you have joined us and our purpose, there is always room for more. We were just discussing a home."

"Home? We already have a home. It's out there." Ailish gestured beyond the void. "And we need to fix it."

Her eyes focused out to remember how the Ideal Lords' purgatory worked again... It was smaller than a marble outside than it was inside, and could only open from an outside force. A powerful emotion was the fuel to purgatory, maintaining the void of darkness and filling the inhabitants' hearts so none try to leave. Ailish was not sure if anyone survived outside, or maybe they had forgotten it... Or perhaps the Ideal Lords meant to spite them all.

"We should most certainly try. Perhaps we each make a portion and then combine on a meeting hall in the center. I could make a place to observe from...to bring light to our creations."

Ailish's eyes snapped open at that; a memory was returning and an idea was forming.

"Yes! That's just what we need, and then... then we need to... enact the First Passion... That would be enough to open a gate to the Heavens, I think." Her face turned a shade pink at the memory. "Then, we can finally set things right."

Vantric 2,30

It seemed that plans were being made to form this new home for them. Vantric approved. A place to call his own, a place to watch over creation, over his allies and his enemies. Yes, this would be a project that he could get behind, though he would need to work in conjunction with these others to do so.

"We should most certainly try. Perhaps we each make a portion and then combine on a meeting hall in the center. I could make a place to observe from...to bring light to our creations."

Seith seemed to be backing off his position as their leader, for the moment. Vantric had no doubts that he would attempt another power grab when the moment allowed. By that time, Vantric would be in a better position to deny Seith his control, perhaps afterward there would be a new order of things. He envisioned himself as a leader of this new existence. One day. Yes...

"I will carve out a territory for myself. Perhaps a great structure of some kind..." Vantric let his mind wander. Yes. A great structure. Made of smooth stone and reinforced with metal. It would reach upward with tall, thin towers and deep below there would be hidden areas, far beyond the eyes of these others. He was distracted with his thinking for a time, but soon became aware of a new entity.

"Yes! That's just what we need, and then... then we need to... enact the First Passion... That would be enough to open a gate to the Heavens, I think." Her face turned a shade pink at the memory. "Then, we can finally set things right."

Vantric mulled over the words for a moment. He had apparently missed something of this new being's introduction. None of what she had said made the slightest bit of sense. First Passion? Gates of the Heavens? It was all nonsense. "Set things right? What things? What right? I appreciate that this...existence is new for all of us, but you could at least attempt some sensible comment."

Ailish 2, 30

"Set things right? What things? What right? I appreciate that this...existence is new for all of us, but you could at least attempt some sensible comment."

Her head tilted at the dark figure before her. Had he forgotten?

"It is only new if you've forgotten, which I think you have." She said solemnly to the... god? Man? Things are unsure at this point and it needed to be gone or all possibility will be gone.

"Look back into your mind and remember that this is only a purgatory, not our home. Surely you feel it, gnawing at you in your memories." Ailish could only hope that they remember as well.

Vantric: 30,2

Ailish seemed puzzled that he hadn't understood any of her babbling nonsense. This one seemed too preoccupied with her own strange preconceptions of being to be coherent, Vantric noted. Perhaps useful later, though he was skeptical, but at the moment she was little more than a nuisance.

"Look back into your mind and remember that this is only a purgatory, not our home. Surely you feel it, gnawing at you in your memories."

Vantric was trying to understand this new arrival. She didn't seem to make any sense, nor did she seem able to explain what she meant. "Memories?" Vantric asked, he understood the concept, but there had been no time to form such things. "We have only just entered being. Creation has just begun. This is, as the red one over there said, the Beginning. There are no memories. There has been no Before. I will ask again: what do you mean?"

Ailish -- 2, 30

"We have only just entered being. Creation has just begun. This is, as the red one over there said, the Beginning. There are no memories. There has been no Before. I will ask again: what do you mean?"

"But this... place is not your 'Beginning.'" Ailish's face creased in annoyance. The figure was just not listening, was he? She gestured to the entire void.

"How do you know you have been born? Listen to yourself speak. Listen to how every other person's words sounds clear. Why is that?"

Maskelyne - 30, 2

"This is hideous. Worse than hideous. My dear audience-" The words poured out of him before they could clothe themselves in meaning. What was an audience? The question lingered in Maskelyne's mind but he knew not to let it interrupt. "- how can you tolerate this ... THIS?! Empty. everywhere? LOOK at it! There's nothing to see, or hear, or feel." Maskelyne shot his gaze around the spaceless, timeless, lightless abyss desperately hoping that it might return his glance. But the abyss would not stare back at Maskelyne.

He was outraged.

"I WON'T STAAAAAND FOR THIS!!!" The God called madly, praying that some merciful echo might lend it's attention to his hollow performance; only for a moment. But no noise returned. The abyss was infinite, like Maskelyne's sorrow.

He pulled his hands to his temple and breathed great sighs of exasperation. He didn't have a name. Or a past. And yet his misery burned through him. He needed someone. He was desperate for something. This quiet was the most painful he'd ever endured, and his first. And he swore in that moment he would never allow this silence, this empty, this absence, in any world of his. In any action. Ever again. In all of time. This would be forbidden.

The god saw movement in distant nothing. The specter of a whisper clung to the movements like orphaned dreams, "Won't you spare a moment of your time? ... Please. I only need a piece of your mind. Anybody?"
