Drama? Haha, no, no, there's enough drama about Mass Effect 3, I'd rather not add any kind of drama to the forums. Apologies.

I was just asking if they did ask for a booth, given the history between you guys, I was wondering if that might cause problems.

But you guys said it won't, so that's good enough for me. And the Internet.

I'd be interested in trying the tactic of going and not paying the Escapist. Then I'll revel in the irony of it all.

If you want to come all the way out here and not buy a ticket, that's up to you. You won't get in, but there's plenty of other stuff in the area. You could always go see the Durham Bulls, who are right up the street. The stadium has great hot dogs.

I can always pay six months down the line, how's that?

I bring excessive amounts of smartassness to the party.

I guess you think you're being clever or funny. You're really not. You're just being a jerk.

If you don't like us, that's perfectly fine. Plenty of other sites out there.

you know what i'd like to see? i'm really interested in becoming a 3D modeller for videogames, i'd LOVE to get a big name character designer/modeller type guy from the industry, making this kind of stuff: http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc-top-row-gallery.php
only, LIVE!! hooked up to a big-arse screen with a microphone strapped to his/her head and talking to us while he/she works about his/her work process, past experiences in the industry and how to get into that kind of career!
that would be sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!

I would love to go to this. Too bad I live in Australia.

Wow, that's an interesting idea! There are loads of devs in the area, so it might be possible. This is a consumer-style show, so really technical stuff might not be realistic, but I really like the idea.

*reels from shock of having had a short conversation with Susan Arendt*
Yeah, it is a bit specialised. that's more like a videogame career fair kinda deal... why don't they have those?!

They do, all the time. There's one here next week called ECGC. And then there's GDC, of course, though that's super pricey.

It's funny how often those two coincide.

I really want to go, but hot dang, it's way too far away.

yeah... key word in that sentence is "here" which for me is "there". because "here" for me is australia... i dunno if you've heard, but... nothing EVER happens here!

Ack, right. On the upside, though, Australia is pretty damn gorgeous, and the people seem pretty cool.

I could probably go. North Carolina is quite a drive though.

I guess I'd like more details on cost. Ticket prices? What convention center would this be held at? I'd be driving from Southern Ontario if anyone who isn't a organ harvesting psychopath wants to carpool and split gas with me. I estimate about a 14 hour drive

This is all tentative, of course.

This is at the Durham Convention Center: http://www.durhamconventioncenter.com/

Website says $15 per day, and there will be some sort of discount for a multi-day pass.

Alright, thanks! Thats a well affordable price.

Escapist staff--Y U NO HAVE WESTERN EXPO?!

But, seriously, y'all should hold an expo on the west coast, maybe in San Francisco?

i dunno... i've never seen "because i was born here" as a good enough reason on its own to love a country. australia's never really done it for me. at least not the capital. it's booooring here!... there's like ONE comic book store on the city!

Loads of people seem excited about us bringing the Expo west. It's definitely not off the table for the future but it's much more expensive and complicated to plan shows remotely. At the very least, it would mean paying to fly and house 20 extra people.

What if you alternated the locations? One year on the East Coast, the next year on the West Coast, and so forth. Sure, it would be a hassle organizing everything almost 3,000 miles away, but with Silicon Valley in California, your potential market would be the same size, if not larger, than in North Carolina.

I certainly would make the drive to attend to meet the staff of one of my favorite websites.

Chrono212:
Right. I'm gonna earn enough to get there.

I'm saying that here, now, that I will earn...however much it would be!

So, yeah. Where can I sign up for volunteering and anyone else from the UK going (or trying to go)?

I'm 99% sure I'll be heading out from the UK for a week. Found flights from Luton for around 550 return, which is bloody good all things considered.

Welp, it is now my mission to come to this.

Haven't left New Zealand in a few years, so i think this'll be the best excuse.

September 14-16...I'll be doing a PLC course 15th September, I feel trolled...

And that would give me about...10 for everything else! :D

The more successful this first Expo is, the more likely we will be to host future Expos in other locations :)

Awesome. And it's in North Cackalacka! It would be great to finally debunk my myth that the only gamers I meet are on the internet.

It was a BA flight. Blink and you miss it, though, no such offer now exists! I think the trick is to keep your eye on the price comparison sites pretty much daily.

I'm looking now and I've got something for 566

Meanwhile, The Escapists in Australia.

"FUUUUUUUUUUU....."

Yeah thats me. I wish I could go but we live here in Australia, where escape seems impossible due to a damn high plane ticket fee.
I promise I'll come one year to meet you guys but that'll be when I'm a Video Game Journalist and I go to America to interview Machinima and the creatures.

So one day, I shall come.

I hate the high prices in Australia. :(

Hey, at least you guys are driving distance from the Mana Bar!

*sees no Halo tournament offers*

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

*ahem*

Would so totally go, but I live too far away, all the way in the West Coast, and lack the ability to skip a few days and enjoy myself there at the expo due to a couple of small things, like "finances" and "school".

Bleh.

Still, best of luck to everyone and everything there; I'm sure it'll be great. The GoW and Magic tournaments are obviously going to be great, and I'm pretty sure it'd be great for the Escapist's staff to interact with its community and talk about a lot of silly, game-related things. Plus, you might organize some sort of collective army and take over BioWare and EA and force them to release a better ending to Mass Effect 3 under pain of death you could get some neat-o autographs and pictures!

Also, idle question, but are any of the Escapist's top columnists, comic artists, or video reviewers/contributers? Just wondering randomly if the people there'll get to see Grey Carter or LeeLee Scaldaferri of Critical Miss/Name Game, Shamus Young of Experienced Points, Loading Ready Run, MovieBob Chipman, or Jim Sterling of LRR (duh)/Escape to the Movies/Jimquisition, or of course, the infamous Australian whose lazy cutout and imp grace the background of my custom setup of this site, Yahtzee Croshaw of Zero Punctuation.

Hell, if you and the Extra Credits team don't still have some animosity between you, it would be great if they'd at least show up to the expo.

Hey, at least you guys are driving distance from the Mana Bar!

The funny part about that is, well that's Sydney and I live in Western Australia, Perth (AKA the most isolated city in the world apparently). And the flights are expensive even if your going over East.

Other Eastern states probably get cheaper flights or can just drive to Sydney, I on the other hand have to either get a plane, suffer a REALLY long car trip or go on a national train (I think we have one).

But either way it's pretty expensive and annoying. :(

Oh, but there will be a Halo tourney....and others, as well. And, yes, Shamus, Yahtzee, Bob, LRR, Jim, and Gavin are all coming. How can you resist?

Oh, and there will be cookies, too. COOKIES.

Damn it, 'merica! Why do you have all the cool conventions! Bein' a poor european student is tough. The Escapist is fantastic, love the podcast, the vids, the editorials, features, all of it. Proud of bein' in the Pub Club, but damn it sucks that I can't go to your con.

You can represent all of the Kiwi Escapists, then, since I doubt many of us can go.

Will you guys be videoing some things from it? For those of us who can't go? Or just for the lols and good times? That would be greatly appreciated and highly awesome.

Justin (Slycne) is in charge of all the coverage stuffs. With the massive caveat that things are still coming together in fun and interesting ways, filming of certain events and of the show in general are part of our current plan.
