The villain is clearly of the old skool gypsy variety, the kind that in movies that is always an old lady and knows how to curse. So if this is a 'traditional' movie gypsy, why does she have a mortgage? Why isn't she travelling around? It just feels like the recession has been crowbarred in there to make the film seem more relevant... |

Last week's review of Up and this one are a lot better than when he bitches endlessly about a movie he doesn't like. Plus, he seems to make a lot more unbiased opinions when he enjoys what he's reviewing. Keep that in mind, MovieBob. Obviously, still have the occasional "I'm gonna tear it to shreds" review, but just remember, when you have those, you sound like nothing but a bitching antifan-boy. Suffice it to say, I really enjoyed your past two reviews. Keep these up! |

I just don't like horror movies of any kind and jesus christ it does it old fashioned which just scares me to death. Also the suprise scare followed by the pun...wow never thought someone could make a SAW pun. |

I agree, it's too easy to go the Yahtzee route when a film is mediocre or just plain bad, I actually enjoy the nerdlove when it's shown. In fact, I might just watch it again. |

It's much better the way it is, in my opinion. When he first started releasing videos it was very obvious that he was just trying to just be Yahtzee for films, and the Escapist is not big enough for two people who do nothing but swear and rant. While I still think he needs to find a style of video that differentiates him more from Yahtzee, I've enjoyed this review and his review of Up! far more than I did any of his earlier ones, because he's managed to find his own style of reviewing. |

After the Wolverine review I thought Bob would tear apart Spiderman, since Raimi ruined Spiderman more than Wolverine killed Xmen IMO. (Just to mention that I'm not saying this as some comic book fan boy, cause I'm not) Something new in comicbook movie genere? How about Dark knight (it has more action and story than all 3 Spiderman movies put together)? Yeah, I like Sam's "classic" stuff with horror and comedy mixed and Hercules and Xena aren't bad but you can't act like that when you have a 200+ milion dollar budget and a legendary cool character. They took Spidermans' wit and coolness and turned him into an emo, "impotent" (2nd movie), unfunny, badly 3d animated boy. Don't get me started on Green goblin. |

The movie reviews aren't technically weekly yet. It just happens there are a lot of movies out right now we're interested in. Some weeks we'll have a review, some weeks we wont. But we'll have plenty of MovieBob all summer long, so stay tuned. |

And yet STILL not quite as good as "Spider-Man 2" or the original "Superman" ;)
I can agree that he's not as funny in the movies as he could be (movies don't get to have thought-balloons, which is where 90% of comic-spidey's jokes happen) but his over-emotionality and random loss-of-powers is all yanked directly from the same early 60s and 70s books Raimi mainly draws on: The original Peter Parker was a bow-tied weakling with coke-bottle glasses when out of costume, who could barely even SPEAK to women and who would frequently quit and/or lose his abilities when confronted with too much emotional stress. Heck, as it is his entire being is wrapped up in a guilt-complex from the very beginning. The only superhero with more neuroses who isn't also an outright psychopath is Bruce Wayne...
Yeah, true story. He (Raimi) has been pretty open about that, and so were the producers on the DVD for #3. He has no affection for Venom as a character (or, apparently, anything that's gone on in the comics since about the late-70s or so) and had planned #3's villians to be Sandman and The Vulture. But Marvel and the studio overuled him on that and demanded that they use Venom because he's a more "marketable" character (despite never being able to sustain his own series in sales, Venom's image sells TONS of toys and shirts for Marvel) and there was so much fan demand. Everything you need to know about Raimi's approach to this series is bound up in this equation: He's spent THREE films teasing and building up the possibility of The Lizard (aka Curt Conners, the one-armed scientist Dylan Baker played in 2 & 3 and who was mentioned in the first one) but had to be FORCED to include Venom for about twenty minutes ;) I'd honestly expect to see Ben Reilly or The Grizzly (he dresses like a bear, that's about it) before Carnage... |

Also, the red background is detracting the eyes from the pictures or the comments. Imo, its a bad choices estheticaly and technicaly. As the others said, I also like it MOAR when your reviews are positive. Perhaps because some other people did the ''rant about movie'' design before. So its cool to hear the good things about it instead of the old old old very old whines that I see every day on the INTRAWEB. My 2 cents. |

See, though the Evil Dead series was scary, it was scary in the halloween fantasy violence aspect. I will be taking some of the reccomendations of other horror films you refrenced in this, but I personally feel a psycological grip is more important in a horror movie then jump out scares. Anyhow, I enjoy your reviews and look forward to more. By the way, you had a Watchmen review too, were would I find that? Will your reviews be getting their own section on Escapist soon? |

The only thing that bothered me a bit was the acting (I mentioned it in my own review) But you are absolutely right music, directing, and story wise it reaches its goals. Gross outs aside, the movie was tepid. Perhaps Raimi thought it was cute to be the opposite of subtle (girl reading animal sacrifice book and petting her loved kitty....hmmmmmmm can you guess what happens? Or the ignorant coin in a envelope scene being reminded to us about 5 times, then showing the envelope with a button in it get mixed in with papers....hmmmmmm can you guess what happens?) but it just doesn't come off as charming....rather it comes off as lazy. Stick with the Evil Dead Trilogy, because Drag Me To Hell is uninspired. The sound is wonderful, but when you notice the sound becoming really quiet after the 2nd spook out scene you just know that another is coming after each silence. |
