Beer girl, booth babe)I completely agree with the value of ladies at these types of events. Sex sells! I've seen it work! And it makes for a fun time had by all! |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2628 Joined: 20 Feb 2008 | Yeah for booth babes and maybe booth...what do you call a hot male anyway? But yeah I always dig the fun fantasy that gives e3 its fun. Especially if the booth babe plays along. Although it is pathetic when the company wants the booth babe to also explain the game and they have no knowledge of the game. Just let them look pretty and make it fun for the attendees, they are entertainers not salespeople. |

Feminists are stupid when they see a problem with a woman using her body to get money (this being said prostitution disgusts me) cause Women are using something men don't have to acquire cash, to me thats feminine power at work. Anyone who has a problem with Booth Babes are self conscious and sexually uptight. |

In my byline I defined them as booth Fabios because Fabio is similarly cheesy in sex appeal. |

There were some of those at this year's E3, all dressed up in uniforms to promote MAG. Yummy. With a spoon. I love booth babes, personally. They add a bit of glamor and silliness to the show. And I somehow always find myself helping one get into her costume in the bathroom -- those catsuits are tricky. Also, wings are hard to get straight by yourself. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 2563 Joined: 28 Nov 2007 | I don't think Booth Babes need to be defended. Also for the record I think they should be including more sex IN Video games to begin with (M rated titles should be M rated) instead of just going with implications. Booth Babes should remain, but I don't think we should be able to point and make a "missing link" referance and have it make sense. But then again for true "mature" games to appear with proper levels of sex and violence to appeal to the most jaded adults, it would involve the industry rising up against censors and groups like the ESRB (which only exists as a compromise to avoid goverment regulation allegedly). I have yet to even remotely see anything like this on their part. |
Muckraker Posts: 253 Joined: 25 Feb 2008 | I think Booth Beef would be a nice aliteration, while also pointing out that the men are sexual eye candy. I mean, you're literally calling them a piece of meat. The purpose of the Booth Babe has never been to accurately represent the game or sell it, solely to garner attention from the attendees. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 2489 Joined: 29 Nov 2007 | This boils down to the critical juncture we have yet to reach with male empowerment and the ludological imperative of greater immersion. As gamers, nay as citizens of the world, we must find a way to make it so people can play video games and have sex at the same time. The booth babe is our saint, our guiding force, to that all consuming goal. |

Actually many women, feminists included, find prostitution to be incredibly empowering. Your point, on the other hand, strikes me as completely hypocritical. "regardless of what a game is actually about, at least some sex appeal can be associated with it." Yes, this is true. It is called Rule 34. On an unrelated note, I have decided that everything in my life would be better if I added more squirrel appeal. I have begun squirreling whatever I can. I often squirrel things up just because I can. I have found that squirrel sells because everything is better with squirrel, even completely unrelated things. "Booth babes also allow companies to compensate for the fact that most of them still don't know how to represent women in videogames" By misrepresenting the majority of them in REAL life. Kick ass! Wordsmith Extraordinaire Posts: 11835 Joined: 13 Feb 2008 | Let's face it, all of us have an ideal mate in mind (Kylie) and game ARE fantasy. And not just for us, but for the Babes/Beefs themselves. Let's face it - for those people - they get paid to strut about in uniforms, like most of us do, but they get - well, I won't call it respect, but you get the idea. And for those Babes/Beefs that actually get into character... The only people who are suffering are those poor fools that get jealous. In fact, I think I did a poll last year: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.74019 |

I'm sorry if I got a bit grabby with the booth babes. But can ya blame me? Besides I always say it is more fun taking things off than putting em back on. :P |

I thought male empowerment had more to do with securing father's rights in custody cases and redefining traditional gender roles in modern society. But, yeah, I guess sticking your dick in an XBox is a pretty noble goal too. User was banned for: suicide is bad right? but why? . (Permanent) |
Muckraker Posts: 304 Joined: 16 Mar 2009 | Booth Babes are a very good marketing strategy i think, playing of the primitive human desire for sex, its sneaky, manipulative, and works wonders. Now if only there were more Booth Boys for guys like me :P |
Copy Clerk Posts: 112 Joined: 29 Oct 2008 | I appreciate the place a booth babe has in advertising. The article came off, overall, however, as a guy trying to spend two pages trying to explain why he likes to look at boobs and why he thinks it's okay. I realize "Bewbies R fun" wouldn't have probably made a minimum word requirement for an article, but still... (I realize there was more to the article than that, but it still strikes me as an odd subject worthy of such a lengthy article. That was two pages I spent reading when I could have been looking at breasts! ;) ) |

I actually agree with this 100% I was more or less talking in reference to the idea that a feminist may say that women using there bodies in any aspect can be degrading (as we know many different types of feminists). More or less defending that, my main point is that, I can appreciate a beautiful woman, however its not enough to con me into buying anything. |

Excellent answer, my thoughts exactly. And do you ever notice that it's the women that look nothing like women, that are always arguing for the rights of women? Interesting concept I think. |

Would have helped. Note that if you sound like a duck, walk like a duck and look like a duck, people will not assume that you are an enlightened human being. User was banned for: suicide is bad right? but why? . (Permanent) |

Fair enough on the main point, and while I appreciate your acknowledgment that there are, in fact, many different "types" of feminists with many varied views and theories on the topic, I would still argue that it is woefully ignorant to assume stupidity on the part of someone just for not sharing your idea of what an entire gender should or should not be. Good to know that you're thinking with more than just your dick, though. Most of us have trouble even getting to that point. User was banned for: suicide is bad right? but why? . (Permanent) |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 637 Joined: 15 Jan 2009 | I don't see a point for booth babes. If the game sucks then it doesn't matter how good your advertising is. The companies should just use the money to build the product and worry about the advertising later. If the reporters that go to E3 really need to see scantily clad women I think I can find some strip clubs for you guys/girls. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 3933 Joined: 14 Jan 2009 | I read the article, and I think it's the first the news article on this site that I disagree with completely. I really don't know how to phrase my feelings, but I'm going to sum them up as anger and disappointment. Suffice to say that I had no idea what a "booth babe" was until reading this article, which I am mildly disgusted by (there's two words you don't see next to each other much.) Honestly I don't know why you guys can't have your violence over here *point right*, and your sex over there... *points left*. As one of the other news posts said, do you really want to be reminded that your Druid could use a mammoth mount while you're watching a porno? Do you really want ads on porn stars? Do you really want porn in games? Don't you already have a tough enough time defending them from several groups? Girls are portrayed bad enough in them, why perpetuate this? I just don't understand. I read the article and your reasons are iffy at best, and honestly, yeah, it is wrong that a girl can do that and get paid shit tons of money when I can't, or be paid to have sex with multiple members of the opposite sex and I can't, but honestly, as time goes on, it really doesn't look very appealing. :/ |

Paperboy Posts: 45 Joined: 14 Apr 2009 | I don't care much about booth babes. I understand the role they play in drawing attention to the product in question (or from it, if it's of inferior quality), but most of them look so... generic. I simply don't find them attractive most of the time. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 78 Joined: 24 Feb 2008 | I am not really on the side of this article. They make up for a fine look, yes. ^^ But i wouldn't try to pour much philosophie int that cause i think the beeing of booth babes can be named by a very short sayin': Sex Sells. And that is all what they are about althougth it is nice if the costumes are done rigth. ^^ |
