A well-developed main character, great visual style and interesting setting set D.Gray-Man apart from other action series.

Seems interesting, I'll try and get it sometime, though I'm not exactly an anime man.

An anime needs to grab me by the balls in the first episode, or I usually don't continu watching.
But maybe I should give this one another shot.

I have only read the manga, since I don't watch anime.

But it's without a doubt in my top 5. I honestly can't think of a single poorly made character in the whole god damn show.

Three reasons you should watch this anime
1) Komurin 3
2) Giant exdending hammer
3) The Blowpipe of Death.

Pretty good review. I've watched all the subbed and have read all the manga. My name is totally a spoiler though.

And you feel the need to draw attention to that...why? Thanks for ruining something for those of us that were actually watching the series.

Good review, I need to something to watch/read in-between Bleach and Naruto filler/taking ages for each new manga to become available

EDIT; Just read the first chapter of the manga and have to say it's pretty cool, the enemies impressive, his weapon (the arm) is really rather cool and the emotion is done rather well. Also the characters seem a little more unusual.

Whereas bleach and naruto they can survive on pure will power and shrug of massive injuries, at least in this when Allen damages his arm (his non cursed one) he has the decency to faint and require hospital treatment

I agree. In both the manga and the anime, the characters are well developed, and overall great. I liked your review, too.

I'm fairly certain it won't ruin anything for you, it's only the name of something.

I have seen both seasons subbed, and just hoped there would be more. But the manga continues.

I would say it takes about five or more episodes to get into, as at the beginning it is a bit slow. I just didn't get it at the beginning, but kept going.

But, then it steps up with actions and the plots thicken. It is worthwile a watch if you are into for the long run.

The Url might be of help for anime people and manga people.

http://myanimelist.net in generally deciding what is good anime or good manga.

The reviews are pretty good.

I hope this helps.

I haven't watched the anime yet, though I have read a fair amount of Scanlated D.Gray-Man. I'll have to check out the anime... once I get to it on my list. My list is several hundred anime's long. This might take awhile.

Me neither. Too much cliche.
By cliche I mean I get series mixed up.
Or at least characters, unless they're especially quirky.

EDIT: that is to say, I agree with the quoted post

I've never watched the anime but the manga was good. I'm not really interested in continuing it though since its been put on hiatus twice. Once for the author because she was sick and once because the author was alleged to have committed plagiarism.

I remember D. Gray-Man starting great, then getting worse as the series progressed into filler. I've watched 100 episodes and I can say it only picks up around 60 or 70 after the initial hurdle of Episode 40. It's that long a wait for something worthwhile. Still, I liked the anime, obviously shown by how many episodes I actually sat through. It's a shonen, it's not as great as One Piece, but definitely gothic and unique enough to be an individual anime. That being said, some parts are dragged out soooooo very very long over many episodes, but if you persist you should get a lot out of the series. It's a shame they stopped it due to poor viewing figures.

Watched the entire thing fansubbed a while back, it seemed to have a ton of potential that just wasn't quite shining through, the ending turned out to be a massive pile of fail which didn't endear me much to the series post viewing. It does also suffer from Bleach syndrome somewhat, like you said, dragging things out for far longer then was necessary.

This failed to me in the same way the first try at Full Metal Alchemist, where the manga is superb and the anime starts out by following the manga precisely but then out paces the manga in releases and decides to branch out in a different instead of taking a break and waiting for the manga to tell it what to do next leading to spurts of plot decay and breaking out in fillers.

IMHO the ending is EPIC. The art and animation is brilliant and enthralling. Please please do not let the 20 or so episodes of so-so filler put you off this series. All series has it; this one just had it a little to soon (around the 30s or 40's I think) and many fans had trouble forgiving it.

The first three story arks are better than most anime films I have seen. I am an artist though and I am just so inspired by their take on Hoshino's art and the amazing visuals that I am biased:)

I tried watching this but it didn't hold my attention past the first 5 episodes. Didn't seem like anything special to me. Dropped it for Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex, that's much better.

I love this series a lot. While the filler does drag a bit, the parts that aren't are solid gold. I want them to continue the damn anime already, the manga has a big enough lead on it now.
