It does look like a good pop corn flick where you can just mong out and cheer on the good guys though... ...I do wonder (read hope) if they will make a M.A.S.K. film though. |

After they decided that they were not going to let reviewers get an early screening, I had pretty much assumed that this was going to be another Transformers. Whoopee! Now I wont be utterly pissed when My roomie wants to inevitably see it and drags me along! |

Well, maybe it was all part of their plan to get everyone's hopes down, then make them happy when the bar is low. I may have to see this, just to see an action movie this summer because everything else I wanted to see is out of the theaters already. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 1203 Joined: 6 Oct 2008 | You'll forgive me for raising an eyebrow at this. Look, I'm not one of those hateful internet sub-people who think everything sucks, but considering Hollywierd's track record with nostalgic franchises (I.E., they've buttfucked every single IP they've gotten their hands on), I think I'm going to sit this one out and wait for the DVD. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2259 Joined: 10 Mar 2009 | Well I was surprised... I must go see it now. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1432 Joined: 13 Jan 2009 | I still won't see this movie. I need a substantial plot for me to watch a movie and this just seems like a bucket load of random explosions. |
Muckraker Posts: 243 Joined: 21 Mar 2009 | Hmm.... If I can manage to turn off my brain of its run-time then it should be worth going to watch. |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 799 Joined: 3 Mar 2009 | Color me surprised...if that is indeed a color. I would probably go see this now if I wasn't going to be relentlessly teased by my girlfriend for doing so. :'( |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 541 Joined: 8 Aug 2008 | Unfortunately I still won't see it. If i suggested that I want to see GI Joe to my friends they would think I have become ill. |

G.I. Joe - The Rise of pryo |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1246 Joined: 9 Apr 2009 | Wh... what? How is this possible? How could this movie possibly be good? I remember seeing the trailer and nearly bursting out laughing! I remember turning to a friend and saying: "Terrorists and ninjas? This movie must be good!" Ok, it has Christopher Eccleston playing a diabolical supervillain, but I still find it extremely hard to believe that it's worth watching. Unless, of course, this review was written just after MovieBob took his happy pills to counteract the Transformers-induced apocalyptic rage. I'll believe it's good when I see it. Which I will probably have to now. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 4057 Joined: 23 Apr 2008 | Frankly, I'm amazed - G. I. Joe with the stupid G-suit things, and its good?! What the hell?! What is wrong with reality?!!! |

Crazy, I heard my friends talk about watching it and was about rock their worlds with insult to the movie, but i held my tongue. Apparently it was a good idea. Now this is what I don't get. Movie Bob praises This movie while shitting on Transformers. I think he hold on to the source material too much. I mean he keeps comparing it to the originals and I'm thinking "Why?" For most people they haven't seen the originals so there's no way they can give their two cents. I'll admit that Transformers was over the top with some stuff, but I doubt the action in this movie will top that of Optimus Prime T-bagging like four decepticons at the same time, though how unbelievable that is. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1476 Joined: 6 Feb 2008 | Im surprised. I was expecting a stuck up its own ass Team America without the parody, satire & humour. Now, who do I know that I can convince to see a film about action figures? hmmm... |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 3316 Joined: 29 Jul 2008 | He finally fixed up the editing, but why does it blur randomly? |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1771 Joined: 18 Nov 2008 |
Yeah, that does see odd. The images come up are fine, then go blurred... ...I would comment more but I'm still in shock...0_o |
Muckraker Posts: 317 Joined: 5 Feb 2009 | Well this is interesting. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1733 Joined: 23 Apr 2009 | I haven't seen it yet, but I completely dismissed it when I heard that they wouldn't be giving advance screenings to critics. So imagine my surprise when MovieBob said it was good! Might have to go see tis now. |
Time Lord Posts: 9962 Joined: 13 Feb 2008 | See, I wasn't really that surprised. We don't need Magnum Opus's to keep us entertained, we just need the sort of films that we would make if we had a few million and a bag full of chocolate coated coffee beans. I'm off to see it next week for sure. |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 536 Joined: 20 Jun 2009 | this guy needs to get a better taste in films ... no way! is this crappy remake of a comic book better than james bond! |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 513 Joined: 4 Jun 2008 | I guess I'm not all that surprised, considering Venkman over at GeekTyrant also gave this film a passing grade. I'm a bit surprised Bob liked it as much as he did, though. |

Mine too, alongside somewhere today I will be getting a new mouse, and going to a Waterslide park. There's one thing I like in movies more than fun, and I don't know what it is, therefore this movie is forefront in number 2 of the movies I want to see this summer. |
Muckraker Posts: 300 Joined: 21 Feb 2009 | Wow, you had some intense praise for this movie,im seing this today at arond fourish, and judging by your review, I should get to the theater early for tickets. Though my biggest question at the moment is-does the villan actually wear the shiny mask? or are you using that as a comparision piece? -This-is-Hip-Hop |

That might have something to do with the video being sent from an alternate reality... Not that I have seen the movie, just having a hard time believing that Hollywood actually got this one right... |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2118 Joined: 2 Aug 2006 | Alright, I'll probably go see it on the grounds that I am one of those late-20s (or more accurately early-30s) guys who remembers a youth with G.I. Joe. First time I saw one of MovieBob's features. I like his work. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1806 Joined: 26 Mar 2009 | I collected (read: played with) G.I. Joes as a kid and actualy have been looking forward to this movie, though I was assuming it would suck and I'd be disappointed. But now Bob has raised my hopes... damn it. Here's hoping I still feel blown away and clearly surprised by it's awesomeness. |
Muckraker Posts: 249 Joined: 4 Jun 2008 | Why are you all so surprised at this movie getting a good rating?
My hats off to you sir. No really, you have my respect. I hate people that go to action movies looking for a god damn plot and come back disappointed (see Fast and Furious 4) You go to see movies like this SPECIFICALLY FOR the explosions, the fight scenes, the car chases. And the fact that you know this movie is for adrenaline junkies and not plot hounds is more than admirable, it's sensible. This is why I'm not surprised that this movie got a good rating. Critics (good ones) know that when they go to see a movie they SHOULD be in the mindset of the audience the movie is targeting. As Bob said here, 7 year olds, and 20+ year olds who still remember what it was like to be 7 years old IS the target audience. Thats what G.I. Joe was aiming for, and it's NOT like finding a needle in a haystack. The only way they could've made it better is if they made sure they gave everyone a sugar high before going in to the movie. It's as if someone like me went to see a movie like oh I don't know, say "the notebook", and I was expecting car chases and explosions and fight scenes and everything that makes life worth living. CLEARLY I would be disappointed and the movie would receive a bad review from me, because I wasn't in the right mindset.
fixd. And how can you judge it before you've seen it? |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2234 Joined: 5 Jan 2008 | Huh, I guess it is good after all. I've never gotten G.I. Joe, so I probably won't get around to seeing it, but I'm glad that it the mark for what it is at heart. Also, I checked iTunes, and the score is by Alan Silvestri, and it's pretty good. |

i'm judging this movie before i've seen it because it's going to be like all the rest taking all the fun and excitement of the comic from when we was kids and just exchanging it for crappy lines and lots of explosions ... they should stop making movies like these!! |
