Well, I guess there are negative aspects to jobs even as awesome as those that involve game criticism.

*Sighs*

[scratch that]Either I'm a medium (cool, now I just have to figure out the winning numbers of next lotto), either I've read that article before, [either I'm a sleepwalking Timelord], wasn't it in the anniversary pdf ?[/scratch that]

Edit: note to self, read the WHOLE article before posting. Sorry I missed the footer.

Edit2 : damn, so I'm not a timelord. Oh well, I still can try to take over the world.

as usual theres a lot of things I can relate to here, as with other pieces of writing/ZP reviews. I think thats probably what does it for me, i can usually relate. it doesnt feel like a review. more like when a mate picks apart all the funny/irritating parts of a game with crude humour. which i think we can all relate to.. if we see them.

Wasn't this interview included in the Escapist birthday PDF issue?

You know, I can understand where Ben's coming from with his comments about Internet fame (not that I've ever had any myself), and so I would hope that all you cats and kittens heading out to Philadelphia for the GameX Expo (like I might be) will be on your best behavior for Yahtzee and all the Escapist staff heading up that way.

Seriously, he does not want you all following him around shouting "Stonking great tits!" at the top of your lungs.

Yahtzee complains sometimes that he's the only one in a certain opinion. But, Yahtzee, if you read this comment board, I almost have the exact same thoughts on the games that you review man, on almost every single game I have the same opinion. You're the best reviewer ever and the coolest person alive.

Maybe to show it to the 'tards who were too 'tarded to download the anniversary PDF issue...

Because most of the games that he reviews negatively are shite, whereas the games he reviews positively (or have large sections of positivity) are good. Sure you can have some differences, but when it all boils down to it, good games are reviewed well and bad games are not. I for one agree with Roger Ebert on most of his movie reviews for the same reason: good movies reviewed well, bad movies aren't.

Yahtzee actually knows his shit when it comes to critiquing games unlike most "professiona" game reviewers. He doesn't suck up {Or suck the developers cock} to all the hype a game generates, that's why he rightfully pans mediocre fanboy fest crap like; Halo 3, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Metal Gear Solid 4, and Grand Theft Auto IV. He's honest to know retro games suck and fighting games are shallow button mashing garbage.

"What you said was exactly what we said to our publishers, but they wouldn't give us any more time ..."

If that's true, then it would explain why 1st party Nintendo games are good. They don't have anyone telling them what to do and when to do it, so they can develop at their leisure.

Downside: a new Mario every decade or so. Not that you're wrong, just being fair.

I'm sorry, but at some games the *critics* tell us that that's a good game, and Yahtzee thinks it's atrocious. Again, On almost any game he reviews I agree with him.

Can't wait till some TV program buys Game Damage, cause if it's improved then it would be even more fun to watch :)

Every now and again, though, I find I have enough time to replay something, and often I'll find myself with a weird urge to play an old review game I might even have completely trashed. Alone in the Dark, for example. It was so broken it could barely limp, but there was so much potential there it makes me want to cry. It's nice to take time out to revise your internal game database now and then.

Ok, now I just have to ask: have you tried to play PS3 version (AitD Inferno)? As far as I know they at least tried to fix most of the things that you (and averyone else) hated about the original version.

Maybe that really is a "AitD Good Edition"?.. (haven't played it yet, so I really don't know it myself).

I wasn't around when the 210 issue was released, so thanks Russ for reposting this interview.

Granted that Yahtzee at least glances at the issues of the Escapist, seeing the last few be practically dedicated to gaming whilst dating must've been irking him like Courtney Cox giving an in depth lecture on sobriety. Actually, Courtney Cox giving whatever length of a speech on anything must do wonders to the human mind.

O.K, I get it now. I'm NOT entitled to my own opinions. Thanks for confirming that for me. Yeah, I played Super Smash Bros. Brawl and I hadn't even heard of the other ones! (I have now tho) Does that make me a fanboy, it is one of my favourite games ever, to the point where I dont have to button mash to win! Am I a fanboy for enjoying this game? Wow. Yeah. Believe everything Yahtzee says. That's the only way to NOT be a tool? Ha, I dont know what you were smokin' when you posted this, but it was HARD! XD

Good read. Actually I am one of those who was introduced to the Escapist because of Yahtzee. A friend linked me to the video and I have been fan ever since. It's funny that I like him so much and my roommate absolutely hates him.

I liken Yahtzee to John Stewart. While his initial angle is comedy, he has turned that 'weakness' into a strength, allowing him to be more honest and straightforward then others in his field.

haven't played the others, but i enjoyed brawl.

and your saying if my opinion doesn't quite match his, i am a tool? a tool is one who lacks the mental capacity to know he is being used, so surely that would fit you better in this situation.

the most annoying aspect of (ZP) fans... because they share the same opinion, they suddenly believe it's a fact. O well, they'll learn when they grow up. Hopefully

See, I knew he was a lovely guy deep down!

YZ: I'd been with her for quite a few years in a state of relationship stagnation where neither party was particularly interested in the other anymore, but routine was too deeply established to break off. We were both just kind of ... there, I guess. I eventually realized I had to get out or I'd go insane. We haven't spoken in a while. She's sent a couple of texts but I've got no idea what to say. "Hey, life's much better since I left you, thanks a bunch?"

That freaked me out. That was the exact same situation I was in a couple of months ago.

That's why when you look at his reviews and you laugh and you don't take them as seriously as most other reviews.

Well, this is certainly an interesting treat. It's interesting to find out more about how Zero Punctuation got started and why. I actually owe Zero Punctuation a great debt; it was Zero Punctuation that first sparked my interest in the Escapist. Had Zero Punctuation never come along, I might never have discovered the Escapist forums, and that'd be a shame. So Yahtzee, if you're reading this, you've got my thanks. Keep up the great work.
