I really need to see this in the theater but its always good to hear a review before hand.

Glad to see it turned out well in the end. I'm hoping to catch this one either by buying cinema tickets or waiting for the DVD release.

Wow, I knew there was talk that they were going to make a sequel but other than that, this totally passed me by.

I saw the fist one right around the time that I outgrew the NRA fantasy of Punisher comic books, so I was repelled rather than impressed.

Don't look away from the guy getting his head pulped execution style, it's good for you. So what if you're an FBI agent? Just throw in with a bunch of guys who shoot people to death in the streets because they've declared themselves judge, jury, and executioner.

Nice to know that the sequel didn't turn out badly as some of my friends believed it would. I can't blame them, the original is a lot to live up to and sequels are generally terrible. Thanks for the input Bob, it was really appreciated.

Bob, I want you to know something: originally, I thought you were just another wannabe auteur... but I'm slowly becoming convinced that you're one of the best contributors to The Escapist.

I remember the 'Boondock Saints' box on the wall at [censored] video, with the celtic cross, but never actually mustered the gumption to watch it...

Now, as a polish catholic raised considerably south of Boston, I think I need to go watch the original (which a friend bought for me), and might just make it a double feature on this fine Friday, based upon your recommendation.

Okay, please stop it with the interrupted credits gag. At least for a while. It gets less funny every time and compoundedly unfunny when done consecutively. Plus we can see it coming when credits take X amount of time with Y amount of time left in the video. Happy Halloween just the same.

As for the review, the most this movie was ever gonna be was a re-make of the first so I'm glad at least to see they pulled it off well. I'll definitely check this out.

Isn't that precisely the point of films like this and comics like Punisher though? Sure some people see it as simple vigilante gun porn, but the point at its core for me has always been the narrative question of fighting fire with fire. The first film caps off perfectly with the fake news reporter asking normal people about if they think the Saints are right or not. In some ways it's a ramped up morally grayer version of Robin Hood, can good be done by doing bad things? That's the question these things are asking to you as the viewer.

I didn't think this was ever coming out, and I didn't even realize it WAS out. Unfortunately it seems the theaters near me are not playing it (yet?) but I'm sure I'll get to see it at some point. The first movie is one of my favourite movies, it really quite awesome. Anyways thanks a lot for the heads up on this one Bob, I always enjoy your videos :)

Are you for real? The movie was actually good. Wow! I was not expecting that.

Never have I wanted a particular movie to fail so badly.

Simply put, I quite enjoyed the first film as a vigilante action movie until I found its fans. It was like stumbling into 4 chan looking for civil discourse, oil and water - the trolls and flame artists were well fed there to say the least. They came across as pretty much cultists dedicated to imitating the diatribe Rocco puts on his former girlfriend and her friend when they weren't worshiping the ground Troy Duffy walked on who seemed to fully support this behavior. From that point on they made an anti-fan out of me and hope this movie burns in a fire (not really).

So, that said, guess I am going to have to wait till this one comes out DVD to not see it with other people who went all cult like with the first movie and then make a point of never seeking out discussion on it beyond trying to warn others of its cultists.

I hope this post serves as a warning to others, enjoy this movie and the previous one at your own risk.

Amazing, somebody has once again dug up an old movie and decided to effectively remake it rather than come up with new ideas... but it's actually worked for a change!

At least... if we believe Bob!

Ive never even heard of boondock saints, but it looks liek a must watch. Gonna have to find the orginal befor ei go see number two.

I was aware of talks of this movie back when the first was still riding it's cult following but i must say i hadn't heard about it so it was very welcomed to see your review and get up to speed. Thanks Bob

This is great news, I loved the first one didn't even realized a second was coming out. I lent my copy to a new classmate that had never heard of it. I didn't realize at the time that his wife was an absolute animal (especially cats) lover... The story of her reaction was priceless. I just wish there was a camera recording her reaction.

Fan service, well...thought it would be far worse, so...low expectations exceeded. Not sure how to feel on that.

I don't think this movie is going to be anything less than amazing. But as you said, you weren't exactly the greatest fan of the first one.

Oh wow. You didn't murder this film. I haven't seen it yet, but it is doing the typical no-no of taking a movie that(while not that old) is considered a classic by most of it's fans and making a sequel which we all know will never live up to it's predecessor. However, it didn't get torn apart in your review. I should probably check this out.

Bob, bob, even to those of us that can follow your metaphysical diatribes into the psyche of the media frenzy that permeates the culture of the celluloid vision, it's somewhat hard to keep up at times.

That said, it's good to have a review from someone who really knows their film history.

Sean Patrick Flannery will always be Young Indiana Jones to me. But good to know that Boondock Saints is actually worth watching. Hear enough fanboys lose their minds over it, and you begin to wonder.

I like the review, I just don't really think it should be tagged as "comedy."

...unless, that is, the movie actually sucks and this is a clever (though evil) attempt to get some giggles out of convincing us adoring Escapists to go out and watch it because MovieBob told us to.

Meh, I thought the first one was poor because of the awful ending. Please tell me that hasn't made a return, and we may have a half decent film!

as long as it has the same basis of jokes from the first one [you always need rope], it should do good, after all, the only movie Ive ever seen that a guy got taken out with a toilet.

A story about two Irish Catholic Bostonains action stars. Very orignal.

I can't really complain about this since Boston (My home) seems to be the best place to base these types of movies, but I can't help, but feel like these types of movies just encourage the sterotype that all Bostonians are Irish,Catholic, killer mobsters. Oh well, it just makes the city seem cooler then it actually is!

Cant wait to see it, i Loved the first and the first was a lot to live up to so its probably not going to be as good as the first but it should still be pretty, just wish it was playing somewhere around where i live.

I don't understand why people let fanboys ruin things for them. If you enjoyed Boondock Saints, that's really where it should have ended. If you found a fan community you didn't like, you should've walked away. I got tired of hearing people gush about how awesome the movie was too, but I stopped paying attention and now no one talks about it anymore. I'm sure All Saints Day will spark a revival, but once again, I can buy the DVD and not let the internet into my living room
