It's the theme for this week's issue of the Escapist.

Sun to watch, but these guys aren't as naturally animated as Susan or Funk.

Where are the ladies? I know the Mafia tends to be a boys club but know female perspective. I shake a politically correct finger at thee.

Ehh... I've never been into the Mafia culture and it's movies and novels. Sure it's a romanticized lifestyle, but when it comes down to it, there are just as many 'laws' one must follow in order to succeed in that lifestyle and more often than not your life is in one too many people's hands. For instance, if any one of these three guys or these two guys or this guy's wife thinks you should die, then you're dead. That's not cool in my eyes.

But m-maybe that's because I was introduced to the gangster culture too late in life. I mean I was 17 when I first watched a glorified gangster movie (it was Goodfellas by the way) so I've never looked up to them growing up or anything.

I will say one thing, though. The best gangster movies are a lot better than the best movies of every other genre. There are just tonnes of classic movies that are in many people's top 20 or top 50 (think of Goodfellas, Carlito's Way, Casino, Scarface, Donnie Brasco, Mean Streets, The Departed, American Gangster, The F*ckin' Godfather trilogy...). Gangster movies just tend to be better than their competition, that for certain.
