Avatar

This week MovieBob takes a look at the much anticipated Avatar.

Watch Video

I REALLY want to see this film!

Now I defenetly want to see it. Oh and what did he ment with the last bit?

to answer that last question, yes, yes I would.

jk in all seriousness, for me this movie was always a maybe, still is I guess...

that was awesome! I'm definitely going to see it ^_^

I really like the point he made though about the movie being brought to you by murdock and micky-d's =p

I didn't know that. It really is ironic O_o oh well. I never was big on doing things out of sheer principal.

I've not seen that episode of South Park, so when I rolled my eyes, I was not cribbing.
And the plot more resembles Thunderheart than Dances With Wolves, to the point where I expect the main character to inform the villains that the land was, in fact, not for sale.

Good review as always and you understand your audience. 2:56, yes that's all we wanted to hear!

Thank you.

Yet another vote for me to take my wife to the cinema, shell out for the stale over-buttered popcorn, and enjoy a well-conceived James Cameron tour de force.

By the way, where can I get one of those voice amplifiers that sounds like a proton pack when you start it up? That thing is awesome!

"Y'know what? Forget the Army... Who's gonna stop the exploitation of the Na'vi by the perverts on DeviantART? You know it's coming."

*Sigh* Yes... Yes, I really do.

On topic, though, this definitely looks like a movie worth seeing. Actually, from this review alone, I'm already more than aware of the fact that the people who are boycotting it because there are no gay characters in it are... well, they're nuts.

i have to see this movie.
your next review is sherlock holmes i am guessing?

Although your review gives the movie praise I still hesitate to see this movie because the overall plot seems so generic and uninteresting.

Good review though, it definitely gave me second thoughts about judging the movie by its overdone advertising campaign and horribly mediocre video game release.

Thats it. I'm going to see this film right away.

Good review.

I don't want to see this movie, there is going to be so many different scenes where I'll have to call bullshit.

I know these movies by trailer now and I hate that.

I agree was hesistant at first but your review is giving me second thoughts although Im not sure if I can endure almost three hours of this in one sitting.

Another good review - should be off to see it this weekend!

The Deviant Art part was absolutely hilarious. As someone who views that ste quite often, I understand Bob's comment on that completely. Although mind you, I think itt'l be those with the Catgirl fetishes who do it first (and I know a few). Before you know it - BAM! The Na'vi make their way into furry culture (although I doubt it, it would be funny if that happens).

I was kind of skeptical about this movie since I saw the first trailer but now I don't know. I think I might just go see this movie after all.

screw that, it IS a masterpiece... the moment i stepped out of the cinema the first time i knew i wanted to see it again immediately... never before have a i felt like that with a film... i mean sure i've wanted to go see movies again in the past but i'm talking after a few days of contemplation but this i just had to see again right away... and so i've now seen it 3 times... i'm not sure if i should be ashamed of myself...

My god, you're so right about deviantart. As much as I love that site, there's just too many people turning all your favourite videogame characters into gay porn stars.

Nice review as always.

All these stories are swaying me into seeing it now, and i love the swipe at deviant arts perverts, nice

See, when he goes super loud...That's a Ghostbuster's Proton back being turned on. have watched that movie too many times.

Also, I've been on the fence about Avatar...now I might actually go see it.

Blargh, even after hearing about how it's a wonderful film that I really should see, I just can't muster any enthusiasm about it. It's like there's a switch in my brain controlling enthusiasm that the initial teaser trailer flipped to the off position.

After careful analysis, I've concluded that the reason I can't get behind this film is that I appear to be incapable of taking the blue cat people seriously and think they look ridiculous. I hate that this is a deal-breaker, but that's apparently how I'm wired.

i saw the movie yesterday
the story was not original - but very well told
other then that, it was the most visually amazing movie i have every seen
and one of the best movies i have seen in years

cant recommend it highly enough

Did you miss the part where he said that the plot wasn't really the point? It was pretty much everything between "stop the dances with smurfs gags" and "don't spend months debating whether you'd shag a Na'Vi".

You'll have to call bullshit? What do you mean you know them by trailer?

Great review, now I know for certain that I will see this film. But not today though tommorrow maybe.

Just to be a douchebag, "yeah, I'd tap that". :P

It looks cheesy and stupid but perhaps I'll forget that with all the, "ooo shiny"-ness. Hm, sounds like a current Gen Game... oh wait... they made it into a game. Gah. It reeks of, "let's make a ton of freakin' money"

At least it doesn't have Bay-splooge, I mean, splosions on it. The military this time isnt american so obviously no one's going to bother slamming the director for it.

Oh and I'll enter my name in the group that says the original trailer killed it for me.

"The plot was kept so basic to not distract us from all this immersion"?????!!!!????

I laughed my ass off when I saw Avatar's trailer. If there's one thing I can't stand about movies, it's clichés. What does Avatar have that hasn't been done a billion times before? Kinda reminds me of Gears of War: compensating poor story with amazing visuals. If I don't care about the characters or their motivations, I can't give less of a shit about the rest of the whole movie.

Please, somebody tell me that Avatar has some unique twist, turn, moment, character, new idea or ANYTHING that would make me want to watch massive battle scenes again. What I've seen thus far doesn't give away any of the previously mentioned.

And before you all start ripping my post to pieces: my opinion is based entirely on what I've seen and heard about the movie, I haven't seen it.

Great review, Bob.
BTW, are you going to make a look-back at 2009 in movies episode or do you find that pointless?
Also, Deviantart creeps me out. I've seen some sick stuff on the net that started from there.

I generally agree with Movie Bob, but this is bs. This movie is just visual masturbation, I would prefer to spend my money on a flm that actually has depth, and can immerse me.

It should have been pointed out that this movie is designed to appeal to people with a limited mental capacity.

I don't really agree with ALL of your opinions, Moviebob, but you always say exactly what I want to hear in your reviews. You're definitely my favorite film critic (and the only one I follow).

Thank you Bob, for keeping the review fresh and on topic. You answered the true question of the film: Is it worth 10 bucks?

Good punch at the meme crowd. To paraphrase,

"aping something that is funny, dose not make you funny"

seriously guys try to have some originality.

I was all set to dismiss this movie as an overwrought 3D tech fest for kids. I generally don't like movies that feature prominently in happy meals. However I usually respect Movie Bob's opinions, so I may give this one a chance.

Hmm, while I think I mentioned once to my friends about Dances with Wolves when we were discussing the whole "Going Native" aspect of Avatar, my primary observation of the movie is that it was, infact, more like Ferngully. Yes, Ferngully, with Robin Williams as a insane bat, Christian Slater as a macho faery(?), and Tim Curry as a cloud of noxious pollutants.

Yes, yes Avatar is very nice.

BUT WHAT ABOUT PRINCESS AND THE FROG? Disney makes a glorious return to 2D animation and you don't even give it a nod? For shame Bob, for shame.

Loud Bob scares me =[

Looks a great film must see it at somepoint! As for the female character "thing".. i agree, its sad and immature.
