This is actually getting to you guys isnt it?

Not really, but if you know me, you know that I tend to sort of speak my mind and not pay enough attention to how it's coming out. Especially on Friday, when it's raining outside and I'm pretending to be home sick so I can toss back some scotch and play Mass Effect ... erm. Moving on.

Anyway, my point was that I meant it well when I called everybody a jackass, but looking back, I can see how that could be misconstrued. Heh. Whoopsie.

I think, in my eyes, the honesty would have been more appreciated. Now it just seems like youre flip flopping. Go forth and call everyone a jackass, hell stand by it for more than a day or say nothing at all.

Well dude, in my experience some jackass on the internet will always find a way to poke you in the eye no matter what you say, so I try not to worry about it too much and just say what I mean to say, when I mean to say it.

To quote Emerson, "Speak what you think today in hard words and tomorrow speak what tomorrow thinks in hard words again, though it contradict every thing you said today." That's from "Self-Reliance," written in 1841, but I think it still holds today, almost two hundred years later.

Seriously, I recommend Emerson to everyone. He has a lot to say about not paying too much attention to annoying jackasses, and concentrating instead on what you believe to be true about your own self.

Bob was funny. Nothing else was. Whos bright idea was it to make an episode about Satan? I liked this episode about as much as I liked the Satan stuff in South Park. That is to say, not at all.

Edit: It occured to me that this could be a Satire of how developers, for both both games and movies, are wholly uneducated and do not care to view their source material to even get it remotely right, like Legion.

What I find annoying is how absolutely everyone seems to be expecting this series to be nothing but randomly-construed jokes. It has a story. As evidenced by Unforgotten Realms, Order of the Stick, LFG comic, etcetera, anything with a story is not going to be endless jokes. It's going to follow that story.

I'm finding the transgression of this story interesting. If I want to laugh non-stop I'll go watch Important things with Demetri Martin.

This was the first GameDogs i enjoyed, i'll still check it out each week

Alright, I will make something more constructive since Russ is not happy. Here it goes. It may sound as a rant, but every rant have a suggestion attached to it. Here it goes.

Warning: Spelling and sentence construction will probably be quite ugly. But, heh, I speak french originaly. You have been warned.

Characters-------------------------

Gary; If he really want to fire people, and dont do it, and he do not really want to fire them. He is just like the evil guys in the kid's series. Not truely evil, never doing everything they can to get rid of the good guys. Anyway, his dialogue, as stated multiple times, is not funny. Its not a joke. He is just stating, over and over, that he will fire them. No joke in that sentence, just a statement. What he need to do is try to make them fail, not just wish they fail, do everything he can to make them fail... Just like the coyote and the road runner. At least that would be better than simply stating the 3 same words over and over.

Roger; Get rid of him, there is absolutly nothing funny about him. If someone need to be fired, its him. That guy, or dog if you will, is the best animated representation of how funny it is to watch paint dry. If you replaced him with a strayman sitting in his chair and never contributing anything to the show then nobody would ever notice. Because he bring absolutly ZERO energy to the show. Its just a boring nerd with nothing to say... and we see enough of these everyday. Hell, put BOB in his chair, and keep the very intelligent smooth attittude that he have now and the episode will improve greatly.

Bethany; Why dont you give her a personnality, I mean, if her personnality is to ask everyone to tell her what to do then she have none. Every time she open the mouth its to ask; What do I do, I dont know how to do it, tell me what to do, I havent done anything in my life, What kind of thing is that and so on. Anyway, girls tend to be very ''loud'', they disagree, they argues, they let their personnality out, they yell, they are angry, they dont let people walk on their feet, they cry, they blackmail... Why dont you give her a bitch personality. Hell, any personality will do! The bicth, the tease, the spoiled, the demanding, the perfectionnist...

Chet: He is cool and come with ideas. What else? He, also, need a personnality. Why dont you make him obsessed with sex? Always trying to get bethany into his bed... Hell thats just an idea, can be anything. Or make him very irresponsible, sleep on the job, smoke weed, he party every night or he game every night and never sleep. Cannot be the super stressed guy because gary is that guy.

I dont what kind of people you hang with, but they are very bland. Instead why dont you look at people you would never hang with, the outgoing and gregarious people. The people with stuff happening in their lifes. The kind of things that is fun to watch because you despite them or because you envy them. You know?

Bob: Bob is fine, I enjoy him, people enjoy him. Its my favorite character.

Yenn: I dont personaly like that character, but some people do. Its a cliche in my opinion but if the people like him the way he is, then lets leave him that way.

General------------------------

The animations doesnt bother me personnaly, Im used to it. But I have to agree about the facial expressions. It might be because they are dogs, but there is not a lot of emotions emanate out of their faces.

So, use the tails... When the tail is held high, shows that the dog is alert; Tail between the legs means that the dog is afraid. If the fur on the tail is also bristled, the dog is saying they are willing to defend. Small, slow wags of the tail says the dog is questioning things around them. Either they aren't sure if the target dog or person is friendly, or they aren't sure what is going on or what is expected of them. Large, fast wags of the tail may be a sign of a happy or excited dog,

Remove the ''this was animated in front of a live audiance''. If you do find it funny unlike most of us, it still imply that the ''live audience'' does'nt find it funny at all since there are no canned laugh going off ever. So it imply that its not funny. Dont remember who stated that on what page, but I agree with them completly.

Change the ''Are you insane'' comment of Gary every episodes so it become a running gag just like the simpson with bart in the classroom or the family on the couch. If you dont like that idea, I suggest that you simply remove it since it bring nothing to the episodes but repetition and irritate the most part of viewers. I dont know if you play video games, I hope you do, but in video games the sounds repeating over and over tend to irritate the players... so its not really a good idea to put that in your animations. (fire in the hole, fire in the hole, fire in the hole, fire in the hole; that kind of stuff)

Conclusion--------------------------------

If you dont want to consider these suggestions seriusly and continu the way you are going. Then congratz, you succesfully made a children serie on an adult website. At least, I think its for adults... well, mature gamers. But are gamers matures at all? Thats whe question!

DA is just being delayed.

*sigh of relief* Thanks Russ. Nobody seemed to know what was going on in the DA Topics.

Russ Pitts:
I think I'm detecting a pattern here. Seems like the folks who have at some point in their lives worked in an office understand and appreciate the humor of Game Dogs, and the people who have not, don't. Diffr'nt strokes.

Thankfully we have better ways of determining how well a show is doing other than counting the number of jackass comments in the forums, and from what we can tell, it's doing alright. Which, naturally, makes me all giddy.

Thanks for watching and commenting. If you're enjoying the story so far, hang on to your butts. The best is yet to come.

I think that you are doing a fantastic job, Mr. Pitts. Keep it up.

"They say I'm not funny"
-Gary

ever think there might be a reason for that?

Michael and Michael are working very hard on the next set of episodes. We hope to be able to bring them out one after the other. Stay tuned. We're actually planning to make kind of a big deal about it around here when they show up.

It wasn't even until the third episode that a story started to form, and two episodes later, it still hasn't gone anywhere. So they're making a game about Satan, and they have a vague idea about what Satan is going to look like. If Game Dogs were really all about plot, it shouldn't have taken four episodes to say THAT, with the creator in the background yelling, "Don't worry, guys! Stick with it! Wait till you see where it goes from here!"

Game Dogs is most certainly trying to be funny. It feels like it's trying too hard, if anything; I'll be the 100th person to cite Gary's pointless "Are you insane?" at the beginning of every episode, as well as the live studio audience bit. There's so little in the way of actual punchlines; it feels like the writers are waging everything on the success of having Gary burst into every scene yelling, "You're fired! FIRED!"

Russ Pitts:
See? Now that, class, is how to give criticism. *clap, clap*

I'll keep all that in mind, daedrick. Thanks for playing.

So unless we write an entire essay on Game Dogs with lengthy, in-depth analysis of every character, you're not going to take our criticism seriously? I understand that the show is still in its early stages. That's why I haven't stopped watching yet, as I'm giving it time to find its footing. But what's the point if you're just going to dismiss most of the criticism directed at you (you apologized for calling these folks "jackasses," yet you're still throwing that word around) because you're too confident in what you're doing? What if the show really ISN'T going anywhere, and you just let us down?

Some of the people here are dicks; most of them aren't. They're simply unsatisfied with the show and they're letting you know. If it's really getting to you (and don't pretend it isn't), then either take these comments seriously or make good on your promise to send the show in a promising direction.

No problem Russ. My pleasure.

japan already made this game, its called shin megami tensei strange journey

its coming out to the US in march

It's getting better. Bob is funny.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1HGhNG781WQ

I wondered what this show would be like in a different fashion. This is what came out.

I'm sorry I truly am, but gary by no means is a good character. he really needs to tone down or just not appear as much...he's recking the show..

Well, at least the animation quality is hilarious...

I find this show bland compared to others on the site, and to be fair, it's not easy setting the bar at the level of, say, Unskippable. I still watch it though. Must be the so-called token female, she's interesting in a way. Bob made a good episodic role too this time *shrug*

Also, Gary could really use a bit of .. uh, what to call it .. character growth. I'd be expecting that when the protagonists actually get around to doing said game..or something.

it seems cool, I like the characters...still bracing for epic.

I think I'm going to pass on future itterations of this show. I'm just not finding it worth my time for it's lack of funny. :( Like I said before; it's almost exactly like a prime time sitcom, without the canned laughter. Not my cup of tea.

"We're game designers, its not like we're artists or anything."

Probably the best line yet.

I thought it was pretty funny, especially the empty bowl part.

I still like it. I mean, I'll admit it's not high-larious, but it's got some jokes and the characters are pretty likable, and Bob was just great in this episode. If you keep making them, I'll keep watching them.

A swing and a miss.

daedrick:
Im gonna ban you, as soon as the escapist let me, I will ban you all, and then I will be promoted to the escapist decision seat, and ban you even more... But even after I banned you and your team, I will make it so that you cant ever be on any other website, ever. Also, if anyone think this serie is good, I will ban them too... and their mother, their friends and even their dog(durhdurh).

BAN,BAN,BANBANBANBANANABANANA......B-A-N-Y-U-O...O-U...You are banned now.

Am I funny? Thats what I though, Im not funny... then why do you think its funny in your episodes?

-Blue jellybean; Lets make a video game guys!
-Pink jellybean; Oh yeah! Great! But what video game? ;(
-Blue jellybean; I dont know...
-Yellow jellybean; Oh no, its Gray jellybean! 8O
-Gray jellybean; You suck, all of you, you are fired. >:(
-Blue jellybean; Oh no, we need to make a good video game my friends, or we will be fired.
-Yellow jellybean; You're right! 8D
-Pink jellybean; But, I dont know anything, tell me what to do?! :S
-Blue jellybean; Lets all do a group hug, then make the bestest wideo gaaaame evar!
-All jellybeans; Yaaaaaaaaay! :D

Was that an interresting dialogue? Nope... nope it wasnt. Well it is for a 6 years old. Perhaps you should add a warning before your flash, like;

Warning; This serie is for the younger audiences, watch at your own risk if you are over the age of twelve you may get brain damage, bleeding eyes or sudently burst into flames. The viewer discretion is adviced.

At least the pace of the dialogue improved... not so slow anymore. Arf.

Oh, screw you. If you're gonna bitch about something, at least validate it with some helpful comments at the end. You've done nothing but complain while giving the writers no way to learn how to make things better. All you've done is prove that indeed you are not funny, and also have a loose understanding of the rules of spelling and grammar. Maybe you should put a little thought into your criticism, and not just yell "BORING BORING BORING BORING" at the top of your lungs for a minute. Because you know who does that? Six year olds. I guess you can watch the show after all.

daedrick:

Oh, hurray for having to eat my own words... I suppose I owe you an apology, daedrick, for my previous message. I didn't realize that you later added some constructive criticism to validate your earlier statements, and I didn't realize that your spelling/grammar errors were due to English not being your first language. I apologize for everything I said in my first comment, and hope that you are not too offended by my own hasty comment. I pride myself on not trolling on this forum, and having actually trolled only to find my trolling COMPLETELY unjustified is a very awkward and embarrassing position to find myself in. Again, I offer my sincerest apologies.

who said it was suppose to be funny? No one. I find it entertaining.

When I watch Game Dogs I feel like I'm watching NASCAR: Some people must like it because it's still here, but I absolutely don't get it.

YukoValis:
who said it was suppose to be funny? No one. I find it entertaining.

Yeah, well funny would be good, sure. And it is great to hear from people in the comments and PM who genuinely do think it's funny. So although - for whatever reason - this show seems to be generating a great deal of negative energy, we do know that people are getting it and enjoying it.

Listen, I know you will never please everyone all the time. Hell, even our most popular shows get negative comments and criticism. So as long as we're brightening some people's day with this, I'm happy. Yes, we will listen to feedback and do what we can to please those of you who very vocally have insisted upon changes, but at the end of the day, it will be what it will be.

But as far as funny, as another poster said, it's not non-stop hilarity like some of our shows and that's by design. Most people think comedy is easy because they can make their mates laugh, but making people who know you and have a personal investment in being your friend, and with whom you share interests and a cultural lexicon laugh is the easiest thing in the world. Making people who don't know you or care about you and who come from vastly different background and share no interests with you laugh is quite challenging.

Another challenge to making comedy entertainment is making something that's both funny and meaningful in some way. Game Dogs, unlike some of our shows, has a plot. It has characters, it has - I hope - meaning. If we find that, at the end of the day, we tried something that didn't work,. we'll either make changes or quit. But so far we've published 20 minutes worth of content for this show. That's barely a TV show's worth. I think we have some room left yet to see what happens, and I hope you guys will stick with us.

Dude, of course it's getting to me! Man you'd have to be a robot to not be affected by negative comments and criticism of something you created and put out there for people to see. That said, I've been creating and putting stuff out there for people to see for long enough to know, as I said before, you can't please everyone.

So yeah from the point of view of "I made this and I want people to like it," sure it's a bummer that some folks are so down on it. But when you do this for a living, as I have for the past 20 years or so, you learn very quickly that some criticism simply can't be answered because some expectations simply can't be met. So you learn to let that sort of criticism flow around you and through you and you get on with your life.
