Review: Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars

It's Marvel vs. Capcom 2 meets Super Smash Bros., with a bunch of guys you've never heard of. And it kicks ass.

It does kick ass. Though I'm a bit disappointed you didn't cover the online aspect. Oh well.

I can play Princess & Chun Li???

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Ahem. It looks rather good.

How could you NOT know who "Ken the Eagle" is?

He was known to G-Force fans as Mark
in Battle for the Planets

God the video footage for the review is 2x fast then my PAL version of the game. I knew 80% of the Tatsunoko characters in the game before the release but after playing it I want to see the animes of the characters I never knew.

Even though I suck huge at fighting games, I do enjoy these Vs. Series. Thtey get so surreal at times. Especially the ones when Marvel Comics is involved.

Thats main reason I enjoy thenm, is because they are something different from the usual tekkens XD

If there was a Hanna-Barbera vs. Capcom, I don't think Fred Flintstone would be in it. Now Hong Kong Phooey....

10 billion damage in one attack. Nice.

I really want to get this game just to play as Blade. Or as any member of the Science Ninja Team. We sell it where I work (that is, we have it, not a single copy has sold yet). Americans have no idea what they are missing out on.

MovieBob should be happy, I think in one of his Overthinker shows he said he really wanted this.

Played this game a bit myself, but mostly I've just watched my friends play since I usually get my ass kicked in fighting games. Either way, this game is a blast.

Almost enough to make me break down and finally buy a Wii. Almost...

Damn you Capcom!

HELL YEAH. High five! And now I will point you all to this video

G-FORCE!!!!!

G damn FORCE!!!

thats just WOWOWOWOWOW!!!

okok, perhaps it isnt that wow, but its interesting nonetheless

i want that game!

and i thought the game a friend made that actually put all the characters from capcom-dragon ball-street fighter-fatal fury-and well... every mix that was already made in one game was awesome...

i better call him and tell him to add those characters

and the bucket to the face broom to the ass move was cool! hahaha

i love the "i dont know what i did but it kicked ass" moments in fighting games.

I think I'll rent it. I just hope there's a sequel with Phoenix Wright in it.

Wasn't thrilled about this one, but... hey, any game where I get to tag-team Morrigan and Chun-Li is fine by me... Even though... I would get my ass kicked. Looks like fun, I guess.

Frank West?!
Frank "I've covered wars" West?!

I want, no, NEED this game!

On that subject though I have to say I am not impressed with how Frank West looks in this game...
I mean, I know his hair wasn't particularly long in Dead Rising, but I know it wasn't a shiny buzz-cut...

The rest of the game looks pretty standard in terms of Vs. games, but really, like has already been established. That's not a bad thing.

Makes me want to buy a Wii...
Don't get me wrong, but those cartoons were big in my country.
To play as Yatterman...and did I see Ms. Dronio in the tittle screen?:D

Come on, where else can you run over your oponent with a giant mechanic dog with a bell around his neck?

Despite no know who the hell these people are (even after I checked wikipedia), was willing to get this simply because I'm a huge fan of the "Vs Capcom" series and I really wanted to play as Zero/Alex. I didn't pick it up because it's on the Wii. I don't own a Wii, and I'm not planning on getting one for just one or two games.

Oh well. I can still hang on to the vain hope that there may be a Marvel vs Capcom 3 in the works.

I hope.

as i have said from the beginning.
ZERO X KARAS FTW!
Its such a good game and a blast to play.
Now i want to see many of the Animes that the Tatsunoko Characters are from.

Especially Tekkaman and Tekkaman Blade.

VOLTEKKA!
Face Laser FTW.

Great game, I just wish I could play as the final boss.

And you do too, Funk! You know it!

Looks pretty fun. Not into fighting games much (Though they are fun to play, and I really should buy some), might be one to check out.

He can summon zombies on shopping carts to fly across the screen into his opponents. And that's one of his regular specials. Not even the Hyper Combo.

Although his VA is odd. It's just not the same...

Am I the only one who, rather than "G-Force" or "Battle of the Planets", thinks...

?

Well, regardless, Tat VS Cap is a must-have for me, although it might be a while before I can get it, due to some excessive spending elsewhere...

What a fucking horrible "review" - even worse than the Street Fighter IV one. Why do you keep writing them when there are many, many sites that do competent reviews? Ad money? Complete lack of self-criticism?

Nothing on balance
Nothing on how it plays (e.g. how good keepaway games are, what the key steps in the learning progression are, how much shared functionality between the characters, ...)
Nothing on online play
Nothing on game modes and options
Nothing on training facilities
Nothing on how the game actually differs from MvC and other comparable games
No mention of the opening, endings and music which were all omitted / butchered
No mention of other aspects of localization either
Nothing on bonus unlocks or forced unlocks

It does answer that most important question: Is it fun?

If you don't care about that, if not even the tiniest iota of your person wants to know if this game is entertaining, then you're playing for the wrong reasons.

Also, Viewtiful Joe is in a new game. I am pleased.

Also also, I'd play Hanna-Barbera vs. Capcom. Hm, I'm sure I've seen videos of Fred Flintstone in MUGEN...

Bawwwwwwwwwwww we don't write reviews for hardcore fighting game fans bawwwwwwwww

This review isn't intended for the people at Shoryuken who know all of this stuff already. All of the stuff you mention is completely irrelevant to the vast, vast majority of gamers.

Our reviews always come down to one thing: Is it entertaining? Is it worth your money? We're not writing guides, and we're not writing manuals.

God knows I'd love to get this game, but the problem lies with everyone releasing their games within the same quarter. I have to choose between Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, No More Heroes 2, Bayonetta, Mass Effect 2, Darksiders, MAG.. and that's only January! C'mon publishers, remember that we have bills to pay.

For those curious, I chose Mass Effect 2 for this month. Hopefully I'll be able to pick up the other great games during the summer or something.

Are you one of those cheeseballs that abide by tier lists?

I kinda like Frank's voice in this game.

I played this back in October at Youmacon. It was awesome and I hope Capcom would bring some of the other VS. games that havent been released in America, such as Konami vs. Capcom. Also great review.

The more I see this game, the more I want to try it out. It looks like it could be perfect for both quick matches and long party sessions. It's just a shame that it had to come out on the same day as No More Heroes 2 (which is awesome, btw), as that game is still occupying my time. Hopefully GameFly doesn't diddle around too much when I send some games back.

It's a very good game... for me it works for a substitute for Marvel vs Capcom 3, since it seems we're not getting one of those soon...

...
And that's the last bit of convincing I needed.
*saves for Wii*
