I love these articles, they always make me laugh and i don't think the fact that it is 2am and that shiny tinfoil is kinda funny to me at this time of my sleep deprivation has anything to do with it.

Tough break.

I recommend ramen noodles when you're broke. Can't go wrong with a 24 cent meal.

I have always been a fan of the poverty weightloss plan myself.

Keep a few thousand extra calories hanging around, then when broke, use the reserves.

This article made me wonder: What's worth more, Diablo or 50 burritos?

Got fired from my first job (landscape crew) trying to fight off a mother robin who was pecking at me to get away from her nest in the holly tree. The supervisor saw me "just standing there doing nothing with a rake and staring into the sky".

The owner believed him and I was so pissed, but whatever, I went home and fired up my pc and played Diablo.

Depends on whether or not the Hellfire expansion is included.

I usually don't read many of the articles here but I'm glad I did this time (even though I thought it was about Diablo 3), a brilliant article.

I miss Godfather's Pizza. And Avante's Pizza Bread. And Hardee's Roast Beef (before the takeover). (That was my first job, by the way, dishwasher at Stake 'N' Shake, East Peoria, IL.)

Well, at least your life is going better now, Mr. Cox. And by going better I mean is supplemented with alcohol.

I feel sorry for you, mate.
I saved up money for ages and had a non-eventfull time buying Diablo.

And maaaan, it was great!
Me and my friend played it for ages.
Worth every cent and cost almost nothing per hour as we'd spend so many hours on it :)

Noodles helped me live in Uni!

Well lets see you only need to eat once every two weeks right? So that would mean 50 burritos could feed you for almost 2 years. You could also ration those burritos out too, so in that case they could last you even longer.

Marion Cox:
kinetic troubleshooting

Best kind of troubleshooting. It works surprising well if, instead of used on the offending machine, you use it on a piece of already dead tech and leave its mangled corpse in plain view of what you want to work. It instills fear amongst the survivors.

Liked the article. I was familiar with that level of poverty as a child, as an adult I've always found a way to feed myself pretty well...probably because of my distaste for the lean years I had when I was a wee lad. Although I don't have cable, car insurance, or a job right now so I'm kind of lacking in those aspects.

It is unfortunate. We always had computers (about 5 or 6 in pieces) and my dad pieced together ones for quite cheap. Anyway, the day I got Diablo was also the same day we got a 17 inch monitor. it was quite wonderful. I was 13, playing an M rated game, and suddenly becoming addicted to something that would stint my social growth, and leave me without a girlfriend until after high school.

Ok, so now we have to consider how long Diabolo will last you for... burritos = 2 years as we've established... whats the maximum (enjoyable) playtime of Diabolo?

Well 50 burritos might last two years, but those two years wouldn't be that enjoyable if you're eating so little. Diablo can provide constant enjoyment while its fun lasts. For constant happiness in life, you'd have to eat three burritos a day. At this eating rate, the burritos would last 16.66 days, or roughly 400 hours we'll say. Can Diablo provide 400 hours of entertainment? I would say no, therefore, the burritos win.

This is how real men live.

I hope you learned a valuable lesson. Buy the gun first.

Poor life choices because of Blizzard games? Who would have thought it.

I did something similar for Diablo II, bought a $3000 computer on credit which lead me to a life of tech geekdom and sherking off responsibility to play games.

"Oh, hey man. What are you doing here? Don't you have class?"

"Yeah, but I just didn't wanna go. Have you seen this new game Diablo though? It's pretty hardcore.

A common scene my first year of university in 1997. The game had been out for a year by this time, but belatedly coming to the game didn't lessen its power.

Maybe Diablo can't provide 400 hours worth of entertainment to you, but I know a guy who STILL plays the original Diablo for three hours a day. He's been doing it since 1997. That's like 13,000 hours of entertainment, give or take. The burritos are a total loser in his example.

Loved the article as usual.

...you know what? You know your on a nerdy website when you find mods having complex arguments with members upon whether burritos or Diabolo is worth more for your money :P

By the end, I feel bad that I was laughing throughout. Luckily, the only time I have ever been that broke was when I was in the Army and an unscrupulous retailer in Augusta, GA decided my debit card could be used to transfer all of my money into his accounts. Lucky for me, Visa had my back and cancelled the card on my behalf without telling me. As this was the only way to access my pay (the army pays by direct deposit), I would have to wait ten business days (or 13 earth days as the case turned out to be) for a replacement card. I had exactly twenty bucks to my name. Even the army dining facility (which only charges a $1.50 for a meal) was too extravagant and I resorted to eating nothing but Ramen and PBJ sandwhiches. The thing I was most surprised by was how badly a terrible diet affects one's mood. I was ready to jump off a cliff when I finally got the replacement card.

Where I live - 5 bucks an hour is a dream you can't even hope for if you're a teenager with no friends in the business you're working for.

i was paid $3/h for building a strip club when i was 16, it was like 6-10 hours a day of hard manly work.. In the end I got around 380 dollars, borrowed another $200 from my parents and also bought a new PC.

But I did love the article nevertheless)

Hmm... Diablo 2 costed me about $35 when I bought it in Poland ($1 = 4 PLN at the time), then expansion pack for $25 which I bought after 3 years. So for $60, it's more or less 10 years of playing an awesome game. Sometimes I played it 8 hours a day (vacations), sometimes 2 hours a day, sometimes 5 hours. Sometimes I didn't touch it for weeks. But it was TOTALLY WORTH IT.

Burritos? Ugh. You'd get sick from eating so many of them. Especially since after few weeks (3-5) they'd rot and it would be too dangerous to even sniff them.

Should have quit and worked at a restaurant instead. I ate (stole) calamari rings and chicken from every plate before it went out.

Dinner solved

Why spend your money on food instead of Diablo? With diablo you forget your hunger and focus on killing things besides you could always feed off of your victory. ^w^

Tom Goldman:

diablo.. definitly. Besides Diablo won't give you diarrhea like the burritos.

You want to borrow my copy of Diablo Marion? It's somewhere around here.

PROTIP: You can get free food and drinks from brand name companies by sending in complaint letters saying something was wrong with what ever they sell (friend of mine sent in a letter to a tampon company they sent him a case of tampons, he did it just to see if he could it worked)

So the moral of this story is that;

Blizzard is evil and will starve you and ruin your teenage life.

I concur
