Ha ha ha holy shit... You know how to tell a story, Mr. Cox.

=| Oh internet, you're so predictable and shameful. Somewhat interesting read, if also kinda offensive that shit like this goes on. Granted, I always assumed as much, but he.

The final comment about the pink Wii was worth a mild chuckle though.

Man I love these stories... My offer for a night of sitting round campfire listening to them all is still going strong. I'll chuck in some hot dogs?

Great article. Keep em' coming, will ya'?

You never fail to dissappoint. Keep up the stellar work.

Ahaha, great article. Enjoyed every bit.

Thank you for confirming that there are in fact no girls on the Internet... :p

Awesome as always, I went in with the thoughts of "This has got to be good", was somewhat underwhelmed but still a nice one xD

Maybe it lacks a few more of the intricacies of what it is like to be a "guuurl gamer".

ha ha

I don't know what else to say really

Make me a little worried about the people out there.

Erm, are you saying he always disappoints?

Anyway, grammar-nazi-ism aside, a good read. If not mildly tragic.

Interesting read. I think it's worth mentioning that I had Nrrrd Grrrl playing in my head throughout the article.

The whole affair was a bit macabre - I could imagine that the guy could have a healthy career in another life as either a plastic surgeon or Dr. Frankenstein.

It's been a few days since I've slept...I'm tryin', here -_-

and suddenly i get why feminism still exists. i thought it was all a myth, like atlantis.

incidentally, some enamel and you could do flames on the wii, or maybe a slaanesh symbol and keep the pink...

That made me feel both angry and increadible lol-able.
I give this content a thumbs up.

Who else here would buy a book about this guy's life?

Seriously, it's damned interesting stuff

There are times I think that my feminism is being too much and that I should just give it up (my life is good, right?) and then I read something like this.

And who wants a pink Wii? Seriously, not a single one of my female friends decorates in pink. It would stand out like a sore thumb in any living room not especially decorated with the color pink in mind. But Generic Gamers Slaanesh idea is not half bad...

Whenever feminism and gaming are mentioned in tandem, I am reminded of when feminists were all up in Fat Princess's grill, resulting in a big flame war between Destructoid users and self-proclaimed feminists. I say "self-proclaimed", because many feminists have legitimate qualms about The Way Things Are. Most of these ones kinda didn't and had some serious misconceptions about the game. Although, the gamer trolls didn't really help issues either, to be completely honest.

Atlantis is not a myth..

it's easy to forget that discrimination still happens, feminism seems almost funny most of the time. then you realise that some people are still sexist and it kind of surprises you. (me that is, i was speaking generally) some self titled "feminists" are just re fighting a fight they know they can win over and over, rather than tackle actual sexism but if i were a female reviewer i'd probably have sued harder after getting that package.

The hell does that even mean? Badly thought out sarcasm? =\

Nope, that was a legitimate complement. I could actually see things from a different point of view after analyzing what you said. Sorry if I came off as disrespectful.

This was both hilarious and angrifying. I've always had such good experiences with being a female gamer. I'm devastated that this stuff still happens, even in the bowels of the internet.

By the way, "grrl" is the most ridiculous "word" ever. If anyone catches me calling myself a grrl in anything but a sarcastic tone, please, hit me.

Wow, i dind't know gaming publications were THAT far behind the times in terms. Gaming is young as was poineered as esentially a boys club. If you think about it it's PAINFULLY prevelant everywhere. Take modernwarfare 2 for example, a gaint male fantasy and totally absent of any female refrence point, it borders on macheal bay war porn.

Beyonetta is a good emaple of how women in gaming are percived and represented, sex, sass and very little in the way of serious character development and this is in the rare case a girl stars in one. Another being lara croft who is obviously made for the laste 90s 13 year old crowd. Most female characters are either x-blades standard sex onbjects or shallow token gestures

Some games forgo women all together, Every STALKER has not one woman. TF2 has no female team menbers (although there is some fan art of what an all female TF2 might look like). There are no options to be a female on most on-line shooters such as all the battlefeild games etc. I guess that's more understandable due to realword frontline constraints on women but still there seem blatant disregard for women in the almost every corner of games.

So are these real or is he just making them up?

Great article. That magazine seemed to subscribe to the Spike TV line of thinking: Guys don't want girls playing games, they want hot girls "playing" games. In their lingerie. Of course, in reality the appearance and interests of girls who like playing games are just as varied as the guys who play them, so there's no real way to pigeonhole female gamers. Personally I don't like to draw attention to myself as a girl and just want to hang out with the guys because I share their interests.

Also grrl/gurrl/whatever other variations that exist out there are stupid words.

Oh my...well now I know what to do if my degree fails to get me a job.

1) Change my name by deed poll to something gender neutral
2) Repeat steps mentioned in article
3) Receive monies

Great article. That experience must have been a mix of awesome and terrible. You should do more trans-gender investigative reporting to show how sexism is alive and well today.
As for the Wii thing: The fact that they sent you a Wii was feminist, not just its color. Wii's are associated with young, casual and female gamers. They should have sent you a PS3 or an Xbox.

And the PSP licker: Jessica Chobot. She started out licking PSP's for IGN and she's now an actual part of the staff.

They are extra super double-secret real.

Jandau:

Hehe! And those which are they are simply acting!

Great article as always, made my Saturday a little more sarcastically delightful!

Lol I liked the idea of a company terminating someone, makes me think of a company robot that goes around killing people that don't pick up the trash they leave laying around.

Girls on the internet? Yeah, right. And I'm The Illusive Man.

Gotta love the internet. It's the best place to go to become an 18-year-old girl.

Haha! That was hilarious! Terrific story man.

Also, it's kind of funny, because your last name is Cox.
