I found this video pretty entertaining ^^ and I'm sure it gives DnD a lot more credibility in some people's eyes.

Yes, because if there's one thing porn does it's give things credibility.

Excellent point Megido. A more concise statement than my first draft reply.

Thanks everyone for watching!
Weather you love it or it's just not your thing, we really appreciate you all watching our show. It's really fun for us to share these moments with you. There's an Interview that posted on http://io9.com today that explains the series better.
Thanks again,
Satine

Snipped for space

Yea, I'll tell you what I told Zak when he asked me to join the show. "What get paid to do what I love? F**k yea!" Sounds dorky but it was one of the two far fetched ideas I had when I was younger and as an adult I got to fulfill them. I totally shrieked with joy at my first DM (from high school) when we shot the first show. 15 years ago we thought it would be fun to record a game and turn it into a book (pre pod cast & you tube).

The lighting for the Sasha Segment does suck unfortunately. We learned our lesson and fixed it with the next Guest Star. And I totally know what you're talking about with Post production. It's what my boyfriend does for a living :) (super Nerd/burns in sunlight/video compositor using Nuke & Infernos) It will be a few weeks before we get there. This isn't the kind of thing you can just re shoot. Its a one shot deal. There are no saves or re dos. The thing about us is that we're not acting. There's no script and you TOTALLY get to see the reactions when we mess up. HAHA.

Stop by my blog: http://sexfoodandcomicbooks.com and say hi. Would love to hang out. OH and one more thing... I don't do porn anymore. Haven't for 6 months. I'm a comic book illustrator. That doesn't quite get covered in the show.

I'm glad it was you this time, I was getting sick of whatshisface's attempts to goad me into an argument. Oh well, every bridge and every forum needs a Troll I guess, I just refuse to feed them.

Anyway, I've not had a chance to use Nuke yet, but I've been using After Effects for a while & it sounds like a great add-on. I don't run an SGI so I haven't played with Inferno. Sunlight? Are you talking about that big bright thing up in the sky that seems to come up over the horizon when I'm going to bed? Yeah I'm pretty sure I've heard of it.

What publications do you draw for? What software do you use? I'm in the market for a new tablet pretty soon, any recommendations? My Genius one has worn almost all the way through.I didn't know that could happen, but what do you want for a $60 tablet?

Good to hear the technical issues have been resolved, that's the problem with shooting on the fly. I like the idea of nothing being obviously scripted, and you still have plenty of time to polish things up & take it to the next level. (Next Level, get it?)

Just like with everything else, there will be people that love it, people that hate it, people that couldn't care less and people that wish they'd thought of it first. Of course you're going to get inflammatory remarks from smacktards that want to feel superior to you, (as evidenced in this forum) and my advice to them is: If you want to look down on someone, put a mirror on the floor.

Some ideas take time to grow, and I think you've got a good one. I think its success depends on just how interesting the banter between players is, and whether or not you're going to concentrate on the game action or the table action. Either of them could net some seriously entertaining back and forths, and yes, some arguments between D&D players (me included) can be seriously hilarious, especially when hardcore nerdism is involved ;)

Man, being accused of pretending to be a geek? How the hell does THAT work?

(And yes, The Terminator is worth watching until the tape breaks, then you can get the DVD)

this is the definition nerd porn

i dont think there being porn stars/strippers/comic illustrators/hairdressers involved really adds or substracts anything from the series. i dont think anyone expects this series to ride on the fame of the participants doing other things. your professions seem to be a rather moot point in a series about your D & D campaign

the idea seems interesting, but as people before me have said, lighting could be better, and i found the camera to be a bit shaky. especially the parts where you look though the PHB are really unclear and didn't really seem to have any function

that said, i think this series could be good, or not, depending on the banter between players and how interesting the campaign is. we'll see.

so, all in all, bit of a meh start, but i think this series had potential

on the other hand, i'm just some random guy on the internet, so why should you care?

shankitystick:
OH MY FUCKING GOD. THIS SHIT SUCKS ASS. THE ONLY APEAL WOULD BE FOR PEOPLE WHO WANT TO WATCH PORNSTARS, AND YET HAVE NOT REALIZED THAT THE INTERNET HAS FUCKING PORN ON IT. GOD DAMN!!!

Or more likely, it is just a DnD game with a spin. I'm starting to doubt the people of the Escapist even know what a "reality show" is.

There are people who have put transcripts or recordings of their DnD games on the internet, and this is the same thing. For people who play, or run, a game of DnD it is actually kind of interesting. Yes, the players work in porn, just as there are DnD players who work in engineering, or who serve in the military; really it just shows the broad appeal of DnD. This video is more welcome on the Escapist than comments rife with spelling errors and misuse of Caps Lock.

Excuse me but who died and put you in charge? What makes you the person who decides what is and isn't welcome? You are in my eyes, just as bad, if not worse, than someone who types in all caps now please take your superiority complex with you and let the adults talk.

OT I'm not too sure about this, didn't get any laughs from me, but then again it might not be going for that approach. I'll give it a few more epiosodes before passing judgement.

... Kinda look for comedy or genius in the escapist movies...

This is just plain tacky and dull. D&D looks boring enough to play in my eyes (if you like it, nothing on you, before that attracts flame) but to sit and watch a bunch of strippers play it. I think your found something that competes against watching cricket.

Can't see it lasting myself.

Nice and interesting.

Unfortunately I'm not going to be able to watch this with my friends like I usually do the escapist videos. I had to stop the video and watch it later by myself because I couldn't listen let alone concentrate through all the rabid guffawing about how "fake" it "had" to be, because apparently strippers and porn stars can't actually be real gamers.
Course none of them know that 3 of my exes were strippers so they didn't understand why I was so annoyed with them.

Personally I like it so far and applaud the Escapist for going with something like this. We love our web comics but as someone who has cast their lot in with the gaming industry I'm always pushing for people to see it in new lights, and to see the culture for more of what it really is, that it's more than the most basic stereotypes.

I have to be nakedly honest (lame pun intended) and admit that I ended up being more excited by seeing the girls that appeared to be vets and really know their stuff over to any of them being porn stars.
Yes, I am that kind of guy....my geek is that strong, girl is a porn star, that's fine....girl looks like she's faced her fair share of red dragons...okay now I'm turned on.

The one thing I am skeptical about is that you guys have Sasha playing a wizard unless I got that wrong? She's never played D&D before, I have to think that will go the same way I've seen it go with every first timer that plays a wizard....as in the other girls are going to be eating some fireballs in midst of combat at some point :P

I think it will be interesting, but a steadier camera would be nice.

Whenever I see the name though I keep thinking "I'd hit it, with an axe!" which wouldn't be a flattering title...

This...this is now worse than Videogame Theater.

NOTHING WAS WORSE THAN THAT.

Until now...

Are we such social pariahs that we find things more entertaining just because hot chicks are in it?

Actually I was going off the Forum Posting Guidelines:

Forum Posting Guidelines

Maybe you should read them sometime. Also note the guy was put on probation for his post. I never claimed to be in charge, but you know who is in charge: Russ Pitts. You know, the guy whose name ends up on the production credits. I think he has sufficient authority to decide what videos go on the Escapist :)

Also it's still hilarious that you are defending a guy who just got probation, because they decided his posting habits needed reformation. It was a nice try on your part, but again Posting Guidelines: Read Them.

LOL

Everyone hurry! Focus your hatred on this instead of gamedogs!

Was my first thought. Then I watched it.
And thought the exact same thing. The equivalent of putting nudity in the thumbnail on youtube.

Good for you!

Not that i disapprove of doing porn mind you. As a 24 year old male virgin i would be very hypocritical to be against it. Simply giving praise to anyone with the courage to do something they enjoy for a living. Some day i hope to find out what i want to do for a living so i can quit my job and do it...

So as long as I don't pay money for it I should keep my opinion to myself? That's pretty weak as far as arguments go, especially considering that this premise seems to work only for negative reviews. If I got your concept right, ideally this comment section should consist of nothing but absolute praise, because it's "different".

Which brings me to the second point: Most supporters here argue it's "new", "fresh" or "different". Care to tell me why? It's people playing D&D. I don't really see how this is different or new at all. And knowing their profession doesn't change the fact that they're just playing D&D. Not a bit. (And no, even tossing in some sexual remarks doesn't add anything unusual to the setting.) The only thing which would make this different is if they would switch between the real world and the "Roleplay"-world - only that even this has been done about a hundred bazillion times already.

So...yeah, I'd like to hear how any of that is...special. You know, apart from throwing in a would-be-controversy that reeks of attention-hogging.

I'll tell you what, you continue to watch something you say you don't like, and you spend your time criticizing it for free, and I'll watch something I do like.
Are you getting the point now, or should I break down for you more? You want to watch it, go ahead. But seems pointless to spend your time on something you don't like. And if you're not going to be watching it, then what does it matter what your opinion is of it?
Some people seem to like it--not everything has to pass your litmus test.

to be perfectly fair, you are acting just as pathetic as him for going out of your way to critize him. lol sorry

EDIT: ah, i see you deleted his name from the quote. that way he won't know you said anything, thus not replying, and you can feel like you won the argument because of it~

I want to see episode two. That mean's it's interesting enough.

That, or it could be that I'm putting in the quotes manually because for whatever reason hitting "quote" is not doing it and I'm too lazy to bother getting the name in as well.

And if that's just as pathetic of me to respond to him, then what does that make you? Can't you even comment on the actual topic of the thread?

Jesse1220:
Meh... It's like my DnD group... without strippers... or girls...

My friend has a DnD group consisting entirely of girls.

the difference is, you are criticizing people for criticizing. i am criticizing you for being a hypocrite~

Apparently the escapist is getting desparate for videos to post up?

Serious, a show about watching people (doesnt matter who) playing D&D...in real life..in a normal way...exactly how is that interesting?

It's like making a show watching people sit at their computers and play WoW.

So, Days Of High Adventure got cancelled and replaced with this? :p

Well I for one will be back for more.

Yes, because if there's one thing porn does it's give things credibility.

2nd best quote in this thread.

I've never played DnD but have read most of the articles related to it on The Escapist. Have to be honest and say that I watched the vid because the word strippers was in the description but found it quite entertaining. At the end I had to kick myself a bit to remind that all people are people and having sex for a living doesn't mean you are only entertained by strange things. I look forward to the next part.

Welcome Zac, and thanks for bringing the concept.

I'm not even going to pretend that this has an iota of potential within it.*Attention diverts to something shiny*

Oooh I'd love to run them through my kobold campaign. My circle of players have referred to it as the Vietnam of D&D.
The guy who played the ranger in that campaign still has a visible twitch when anybody brings up kobolds.
Mmmmm.....permanent mental trauma. I earned my DM medal of honor on that one.
:P

First of all, it's always good to see fresh minds at work on new things at the Escapist. So, welcome Zac, Satine and the rest. :)

That said, I will admit that as excited as I am to see more content centered on table-top gaming, and as much as I like porn, watching porn stars play D&D sounds like a great idea on paper but has the potential to get a little stale. Being a foolish optimist, though, I hope that doesn't happen. Seeing real people doing real stuff, even if it's just rolling dice, is always a nice change from animation.

That's my 2 coppers, anyway.

Huh, when i said "Most of the shows on this site need better writing" I did not mean "Lets do a lazy-ass reality show with no writing whatsoever".

The thing about jokes between friends is they are only funny between friends. I'm not your friend (unfortunately, cos you guys seems pretty cool).

Oh yea, also, another video series about DnD? Really? You guys got nothing else? No new ideas at all?

Final thing, you gals seem to know what you're doing, I bet you play DnD all the time. However, I see women playing a nerdy boys-game (at least, that is how it is viewed by my peers), and it just screams "FAN SERVICE!!! LOOK, SEXY CHICKS PLAYING TABLETOP GAMES!!!" I suspect that is how you've drawn in a preliminary audience (i.e. the 10+ pages of comments), but they will disappear when they find out they can get their porn elsewhere quicker and easier.

Welcome to the Escapist. Give this up, try something else.

craddoke:
The stupid here is dissipating a little, but I have to point out something that should be blindingly obvious:

The video is explicitly an introduction to the cast of this series - not a typical episode with longer, chronologically arranged sequences of role-playing. Did no one notice that this short clip clearly edits together footage from game setup, actual role-playing, and reflections after the session? It's like the montage of upcoming scenes at the beginning of a television show.

I used to weep thinking about the average person's ability to read critically; now it seems like the average person is incapable of even watching something critically.

I respectfully disagree. I get that its meant to be an opening episode to introduce people to the players but I see no reason to leave it at that. Make the show longer and let us see them playing, even if that is the plan already I see no reason to make the PILOT episode suffer by not including it. Can't it be 10 minutes long? Or even 20? If you're worried about short attention spans then you should probably consider making it "Shoot Them in the Face: Porn Stars & Halo". No offense to the FPS crowd, I was just thinking of a genre of gaming more in line with instant gratification *snicker*

I'm okay with some editing, but some of the best reactions and humor arise unexpectedly after a botched roll or an especially good one. I would rather see them sucking at rolling than hearing about it afterwards.

Jiveturkey124:
At least the music is good.

Metal!

Ehh, yeah the music was the only good thing.

I completely agree that the episodes should be longer - in fact, I'm pretty sure the DM himself said he would prefer 20 minute episodes on his blog (definitely worth checking out - today's post on dragons is excellent [http://dndwithpornstars.blogspot.com/ ]).

PH3NOmenon:

So porn stars and strippers play D&D... poorly...

Is there a wrong way to play D&D? (Yes, yes there is. But-) D&D is being played right when everyone is having a good old time. In this case the players are having fun, the DM is having fun, so, in my opinion, this is a great example of D&D.

A lot of the comments here comment on the lack of funny. But I don't think this series is meant to be a comedy. It's just a group with a liffestyle that deviates from the norm expected 'round the gametable.
Also, I watch and listen to other people's D&D sessions. To improve myself as DM and have a better idea of what people want in their game. This is the reason I will watch 'I hit it with my axe'.

One thing though, the shaky camera was quite bothering me in the beginning.

Also, a lot of other people have already mentioned it, but Zak's blog is full of fresh ideas for DMs and is pretty funny. Go check it out!(if you're interested in that kind of thing.)

I was gonna say "Define Play DnD poorly?" If the blog is any indication, Zak is a great DM and the game in question is anything but "poor" in composition. Hell, I've already started integrating a ton of the ideas from the blog (d6 rooms and d10 streets ftw!) into my own game.

I found this somewhat boring, I've gone to D&D games that pretty much played out like this, and even though I find D&D dull it's still better then watching people play D&D, regardless of their career choices. Far more entertaining when it's people you know talking about sex during D&D haha.

Also, I thought this site was all about the PG-13 content, what with the bleeping of the word fuck in your own reporting videos and all that. I don't really see how having pornstars who play D&D fits this model.
