I have to see that Japanese Spiderman. That sounds like the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of.

When I read the name sidekick, I thought you meant that God awful Chuck Norris movie. The only one on that list I think I've seen is Meteor Man, average film but it had James Earl Jones in it, and JEJ is always awesome.

I have very fond memories of Blankman. It's one of the few superhero spoofs that seemed to be affectionate towards the genre, rather than the usual mean-spirited bile that is normally tossed at it. That, and it was from back when the Wayans Brothers made good comedies.

Aaah, Meteor Man. It's been a while since I've seen that movie. None of these forgotten heroes can hold a candle to Pumaman though.

WHUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHA

Other than Mister Freedom, I have seen every one of these. I feel dirty for some reason.

What?! No Mystery Men?

Ah Sidekicks... so very Canadian.

I'm a bit disappointed you didn't list The Specials, but at the same time I can see why. The film takes time to actually become funny, and considering you're pointing out really good flicks or really, REALLY outrageous ones, it doesn't quite belong.

Still, it was my first introduction to James Gunn and Thomas Haden Church. Unfortunately I haven't enjoyed any film either has done since (I know everyone loves Sideways, but I was just so bored by it. Then again, maybe that's because 1) I'm not big on alcohol and 2) maybe I was too young at the time?).

Still, I find it fitting that a movie about the seventh or eighth greatest super hero team be forgotten, even in a list of outcasts. :P

I hope that's sarcasm.

Japanese spider man?! Heh, suppose they will try anything, god knows Tokyo has enough tall buildinds.

A fair surprise there, alot of which never heard of lol

I saw a very good 'superhero' movie recently. I can't remember the full title of it, think it was just called 'Special'. Very bittersweet movie about a man who is under the impression he has superpowers.

No love for Big Man Japan? That movie kicks ass.

Saw that movie, and loved it as well. I think it's a fairly decent representation of how people would actually view superheroes.

If I remember correctly, he used a friggin GUNDAM.

I remember reading Guyver manga as a kid. I havent thought about him in years.

I haven't seen any one of those movies, guess you gave me some thing to do over the week end.

We've got a blind date with destiny... and it looks like she's ordered the lobster.

One of my favourite all time films.

You didn't mention wonders like Kekko-Kamen though. And, thinking about it...I'm really not surprised.

Uh,... how to decribe it... It's a female superheroine that wears a bikers helmet...and that's all...

And, oh grief, how did I not remember this...

R.I.P. Robert Culp.

Do not whatever you do do not watch the guyver live action films. Worst pieces of crap ever made. The New guyver anime came out in 2005 watch that instead.

There are a couple movies I saw as a kid on Disney.
They were... Ok, I guess.

Up, Up and Away and Star Kid

Wow, I'll have to check some of these out!
Wonder if they're on lovefilm.com.

Thanks Bob!

You forgot to mention the best part about The Guyver. In the sequel, despite it being a lot more boring, it had David Hayter as the hero.

David Hayter.

Also, pretty much every other incarnation of Guyver, from the Manga to the OVA series (two of them I believe), are far better then the movie. Just sayin'.

Now, for the most important question: Italian Spider-Man, or Japanese Spider-Man, which is worse?

Growing up, I remember enjoying the very Canadian (ie, silly theme song and minimal effects budget) TV series "My Secret Identity", also noteworthy for being Jerry O'Connell's only significant work between Stand By Me and Sliders. It was basically The Secret World of Alex Mack but without the evil corporation hunting the lead character.

Just watched the first episode. Thats absolutely killer - Japanses Spiderman is clearly much much better than the soft Western version.

This is the second time I have heard of Supaidaman and the Turkish Captain America movie. I might have to check them both out.

Meteor Man and Zebraman!

I love those movies and own both of those on DVD.

You can't call yourself a Miike fan without having Zebraman in your collection.

MovieBob:
If I told you how this movie ended, you would not believe me.

I hardly believe how it starts.

Meteorman, Blankman, and the Guyver? Awesome.

Interesting list MovieBob, but I'm going to have to say that the sequel to the Guyver live action film was a lot better than the first one. To me, the first live action Guyver movie was too silly. That, and it had Jimmy Walker in it as a monster that looked like Jar Jar Binks retarded cousin trying to be a hip-hop gangsta. Dark Hero was much better.

I've been meaning to check out "Blankman" for years now. About time I did so.

Just watch the theme song.....holy SHIT

How can you compile a list of superhero movies without including Orgazmo? A Mormon-turned-porn-star uses his martial arts and orgasm-ray to fight to save his girlfriend with the help of his sex-toy-wielding sidekick, from the grips of a twisted porn mogul?

Wow, now that I've written it all down, it seems hard to believe it actually isn't a porno.

Great selection, personally wish you chose something other then The Guyver. Just one of the movies I am tired of people telling me I should see this movie when I have already have. Good, but a little too over hyped. Though out of curiosity why did you leave out Mystery Men in favor of Blankman?

I know they are of the same flavor, just am a bit surprised since it would be on ball with The Avengers. I know when The Avengers movie does comes out I'll be comparing it to Mystery Man because I think it does the team of superheroes bit real well. I can't really think of any movie that has tried to do the team of superheros and it come out as well as Mystery Man did.

Though thanks for at least making me feel at least a bit of your movie tastes since I've seen half already.

I'd suggest "The Shadow" circa 1994 from director Russell Mulcahy. A gritty film-noir title where a psychic superhero who atones for his evil past as a murderous opium dealer is retrained by a Tibetan monk and uses his mental powers to "cloud men's minds" and appear to them only as a shadow with a really creepy laugh who fights against the last remaining descendant of Ghengis Khan in order to stop him detonating a nuke in 1930's New York city.

With a plot like that, how can you pass it up?

Japanese Spiderman: Flying UFOs/Mechas, The spider-mobile and spider string. Class.

Lets not forget the travesty that was "Orgasmo". Its a kind of superhero movie I guess.
