The Losers

This week Bob finds out if The Losers is for losers.

Watch Video

I have a feeling there might be some heavy sarcasm at the ending sentence there Bob.

Edit: I managed to get the first comment? Holy Crap that's weird.

So...it's time to insert an irritating character, who was our of place even in the comics, who will be played by an inevitably awful young Shia LeBouf wannabe, or perhaps the man himself to utterly ruin and destroy the 3rd Batman movie?
You want proof they're trying to put him in everything? They want him to play Yorick in the Y: The Last Man movie. Let me repeat that:
THEY WANT SHIA LEBOUF TO PLAY YORICK BROWN IN A Y: THE LAST MAN MOVIE!

So can we not fuck up a good thing?

I remember hearing that Christian Bale said he would never make a Batman movie that includes Robin, so I don't think we're going to be getting him anytime soon.

I was kind of hoping this would be good, instead of something to kill time until Iron Man 2.

Robin? Really? Have you forgotten what happenened the last time Robin was introduced to the Batman mythos in Hollywood????

HAVE YOU??!!??!!

There's rumours going around that Shia La Bouf will be playing Robin, sorry Bob.

I am surprised Bob would want to introduce Robin on the basis "it will make you money" when part of Nolan's Batman films is they have integrity to the character and have not thrown in villains for merchandise, but to fit narratives.

Robin should only be in the next Batman if it makes sense to the characters and story, not to sell toys.

It's pronounced "gair-ish". Other than that, good review with none of that "oh, look, we have some time left" business (which is fine occasionally, but I saw it being used three times in a row, bad form Moviebob)

They'd have to make Robin..."Kick-Ass".

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAH!

...

Really? Plastic nipples? Wow...

OT: Huh, I expected the film to be satirical... Ah well, guess now I get to save $12 or so.

Also, Moviebob doesn't condone the cool crime of sneaking into higher-rated movies ;)

Onyx Oblivion:
They'd have to make Robin..."Kick-Ass".

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAH!

I highly doubt they'll ever reintroduce Robin after that horrible one with Clooney

I guess this is one bird...who flew the coop

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

OT: Never heard of this film before

Will never hear from it again

Well, there's already a bit of an introduction for Robin, since Batman does save some young kid in Batman:Begin.

But tbh, what makes Hit Girl such a hot topic is that she's everything Robin isn't...

Heh while I'm big fan of Dick Grayson, I think making the Robin/Hit girl comparaison is a wrong one

Hit girl a psycho creepy little girl

Robin is meant to keep Batman grounded

They are too different character

but nice review

Was really hoping that The Losers would be good, but at least the comic I bought won't go to waste. It's actually a pretty good comic, it's a pity the movie ain't.

And I agree with MovieBob. The Dark Knight left off with Batman taking the fall for Harvey's death after barely surviving going head to head with the most dangerous criminal in Gotham. It would actually be a good time for Batman to look for a possible replacement/pet the dog character to keep him from going too far over the deep end.
I doubt Nolan would allow the Robin character to be abused the same way Schumacher did.

Also, even though Heath Ledger is gone, there is still a possibility in bringing back the Joker.

Harley Quinn.

It's a good idea, Kick-Ass has showed it's possible, maybe soon it'll be time, but for now, no, I don't think The Boy Wonder is right just yet.

The recent Batman movies would probably work great with a Robin like Jason Todd or Damian Wayne rather then Dick Grayson, but since they seem to want to stay as true to the canon as possible... yeah. Plus the scaly panties and elf shoes are hard to take seriously and probably impossible for film.

The Losers sounds like a great flick to rent someday, might try it when it hits iTunes.

That was Joel Schumacher, who also bastardized one of the most bad ass villains in the series, mister freeze.

Also, lol @ ''Because that would be wrong.''

What?! They call it "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo"?
Why? What's up with that, it's suppose to be "Men Who Hate Women".
please tell me, I don't want to figure it out with my prejudices and all.

There's a film coming out named The Expendables that looks to be going at the action movie parody, well reading that the cast is made up of 80's and 90's action stars (and Jason Statham) I think I may check that one out. As for this movie, I hadn't heard of it, which means one of two things:

1) Not out in Britain yet.
2) Really bad marketing.

HAVE YOU??!!??!!

No, because it has never happened.

You read me?
It Never Happened.

OT: Pretty interesting, though, and it removes any of my plans to see a film I wasn't planning on seeing and haven't seen advertised in the UK.

Well 90% of the time i agree with Moviebob... But then there are this times, when he calls the recently deceased Spider-man franchise "good" or when he wants Robin to show up for Batman 3...*sigh*. Bob please lay off the crack, man ! Its bad for you. It makes you think horrible, horrible things are good. And they are not ! Say no to drugs ! Please.

The Robin thing...the Dark Knight introduced Two Face. Two Face kinda leads into the second Robins origin. So, yeah, I was sorta expecting Robin to show up in the next movie sometime anyway. They definately do need to step carefully, Batman and Robins real issues was the sheer camp silliness and poor quality but it can be tricky when you're dealing with a young goofy kid in green and red tight clothing and a yellow cape. The other side of the coin though, where said kid has his parents murdered and then is thrown into the criminals of Gotham...could end up with some brutal Kick Ass.

OT though: Looks sorta interesting in a 'something to watch' way, but not my sort of interesting.

NEVER FORGET!

"Cause that would be wrong" Haha a laughed there xD Ohh man age limits are stupid... Remember "Age is just a number".

yeah of course when i was younger would not have bought a ticket for a movie and then go to the rated 18A movies
NEVER! that is silly and wrong

they would either make Robin ten times weirder and scarier than hit-girl or just will make you think wtf

well going to go and see kick ass

Batman always goes down hill fast whenever Robin is introduced. He's the person who gets invited to the party cos everyones asks "How come Robin's never invited to these things" and then when he gets there, he sets next doors house alight, trashes everything and sucks all the fun out by acting as an attention whore, before we all go. "Oh. That's why."

Leave him be, and ignore him out of existance.

Never heard of this movie. Plus this is another moive based on a comic. nice. But I still enjoy Kick Ass.

Also, Robin in the next Batman (if possible), I'll be surprised.

you guys do realize that their is more than one way to do robin right? Personally I thing Shai would be too old as if they are going with dick grayson it would have to be when he was still fairly young, and the same pretty much goes for the other robin's. Their are two ways I could see it working out effectively:

1)You go with Dick Grayson and the whole his parents were murdered during a circus routine thing, and have Bruce maybe already having tracked the mob to the circus or something, and out of sympathy for when his parents were killed he adopts dick and tries to keep his secret identity a secret from him. It would be great because you would get to see christian bail act really awkward around a kid and Alfred looking at him scornfully/pathetically. And eventually, against Alfred's wishes he starts training the kid because he realizes that, the same way he did, that he would want to get revenge anyway and it would be better if he had discipline and skills if he was going to do it, and in the end the new robin helps him (although the robin suit would need a big redesign to fit into that universe). Over all crib more from batman the animated series and less from the two batman movies with robin in them.

or

2) Go with the, scruffy street kid thing and but sort of like the fake batmen from the second movie. After batman goes into hiding at the end of the second movie the crime rate rises, especially in the poorer areas of the city. Some young kind, who had a patent killed by street crime perhaps, decides that if batman isn't going to protect them anymore he might as well. Granted he isn't very good and as batman comes out of hiding more he finds that the kid is way over his head, tries to discourage him, but finally realizes that the kid has the same type of fire that he had and (again like the 1st one) if he doesn't train this kid he will go out anyway and get himself killed.

Both of those could work well in the universe of the new batman movies, and could result in a good movie. Also, nether of the parts would really fit shai Lebuff, which is a good thing.

P.S. Oh and about girl with a dragon tattoo, very good, but not for the faint of hart. Their is some really graphic stuff in there. I work in a movie theater that has it and I have seen people walk out of the movie and sit in the lobby because they found the movie too traumatizing, and this isn't a case of saw style murder porn, just of a director depicting things with more realism than most movies give them.

Let's keep Robin out of Nolan's movies, shall we?

Though admittedly, there's potential for a scene.

*Batman and Robin stand atop a building overlooking a bank that is being robbed*

Batman: "Here's the plan: I'll-"

Robin: "Are you alright?"

Batman: "...What are you talking about? I'm fine, now-"

Robin: "You sound like you're choking on gravel."

Batman: "..."

Ummm.... Not really gonna go with you on that one bob.
Robin doesn't really fit in to what Christopher Nolan is doing with the Batman Begins Triolgy...

Oh man, look at this cunt corrupting our youth by sending them off to see violent movies like Kick-Ass. That's just wrong!

In other news, I'm so fucking excited that we're starting to have a national debate over censorship. These are my favorite! Especially when they involve kick-ass movies like Kick-Ass!

Hopefully if they introduce Robin to the Batman franchise they have enough sense to do it in the style of the All-Star Batman & Robin series. It might border on being absurd but it's the only Robin orign story I've seen that could potentially seem like it wasn't being surgically implanted into Nolan's Batman franchise.

You know that part where he starts shooting with his fingers and a guy with a sniper rifle kills them? I SWEAR I've seen that before, I just can't remember the film.

Anyone give me a hand?

EDIT: Nevermind, it was Crank.

Bob, just a couple'a points:

*The reason some of us are against Robin is not just the stigmata associated with Joel Shumaker, it's the fact that some of us have much fonder memories of him working alone, such as in the Burton films or the better seasons of the Animated Series. Good idea on proposing they make him an ultraviolent sidekick, 'tho.

*In using The Matrix as an example about how we "imported" our action from China and Japan to remind us how to be awesome: you do realize that The Matrix is a cyberpunk film, invented here in America by the once-great William Gibson? Yeah I know, it is at its heart an import mash-up, but we invented the concept, dammit!

It's just a knee-jerk reaction of mine to what I perceive as heavy-to-light weaboosim. I'm a moderate fan of anime and other Japanese-based media myself, but over the years I've come to realize that we're capable of making just as much awesome as they are (Batman, westerns, Half-Life, etc.) without the amount of over-the-top ecchi-ness that's so pervasive in so may forms of Japanese media (Dead or Alive, Tenjo Tinge, tentacle hentai...*shudder*...etc.) Hell, even FLCL's Freudism was uncomfortable at times, but it was damn funny.

Oh, and one more thing: Deadliest Warrior confirmed that the Spartan is a better warrior than the Samurai and Ninja. While I'm one to put a grain of salt into such questionably scientific series, It's just such a damn fun show. Besides, with the advent of Halo and 300, Spartans have become the rightfully recognized badasses of American pop-culture. And I for one welcome our new memetic overlords. It's about time that we get over our obsession with Japanese heroes and recognize that the west and even we are still capable of awesomeness.
